      I was about to say something similar, but Debra said it better. Way to go thinking outside the box. Not everyone would consider just trying the garment in reverse and moving on from there. Having that kind of thinking will take you a long way. Your grasp of concepts, colour/pattern combination, your creativity reworking/upcycling is so amazing to see, and so it your NEAT WORK. Chef's kiss for this one, girl!
      Couple pro tips you might love later: save the button bands from men's shirts for an easy peasy closure on a million projects. I keep mine buttoned together so they don't get lost. You can for sure mix and match them even if the button spacing is different., just swap out the buttons - mix and match them. Buy one of those random button bags at the thrift store and spend some tv/music time sewing them loosely to a square of matte fabric like black velveteen and hang it on your wall as an art/inspiration piece. Then just snip off the ones you want when you need them, and you can pick them easily by holding your project up to them.
      Keep up the artistry! Can't wait to see what you do next

    Girl the way you switched up the design after already sewing lets me know how much of a real deal designer you are !!! You just taught me a valuable lesson No matter how deep into the project if I have a better idea it's best to try it. Your dress turned out so pretty I showed my mom and she agrees (We're both trying to learn how to sew wearable clothes lol) Really nice job!!!

    I think the two solid colors ending up on the front was a great move! It really highlights your face versus the multiple patterns felt a little too busy. It turned out a so cute!!

    I think it is cute idea for a trift flip & I will hunt some shirts down for a skirt. You would benefit from setting your machine better though - the seams are visibly coming apart a little. But beside that such a great job!

    i took a close look at the claudine skirt - i think there's 2 major differences in your pattern vs theirs. Your rectangles - the base of the skirt - are much wider to begin with. It looks to me like they have 10 rectangle pieces (and your original count of godets was correct haha!) The other major difference is that, at least from the looks of the stripes on the fabrics, that your triangles are narrower or shaped differently than theirs. I think that maybe their triangles are flared from about halfway or 2/3's down the triangle side, making the stripes perpendicular at the hem and giving an added dimension to the dress both in visual pattern change as well as added flair. I had been wondering why your dress looked so different, and I think I figured it out. I learned something in the process and i hope you enjoy wearing your dress!!

    • @shay_made
      @shay_made  5 місяців тому

      You’re right! I love how attentive you are to detail and now I want to recreate the Claudine with store bought striped fabrics (vs thrifted shirts) just because I like the challenge of recreating clothes exactly as they are sometimes haha. I enjoyed reading your observations 😁

    Also what is the seam allowance when you double fold?

    • @shay_made
      @shay_made  5 місяців тому +1

      Thank you so much!!😊 Since it’s a rounded edge along the triangles I did half an inch seam allowance and folded a quarter inch and then another quarter inch. You want a super narrow hem when hemming a curved edge.
