  • In this video I go over 4 of the most common chord progressions I use when writing songs. Some of these may sound familiar, that's why I show you how to spice it up!
    1. G, D, Em, C (or G, Bm, Em, C)
    2. A, F# minor , E, D
    3. Em, C, G, D
    4. D, Em, C, G
    I use these chord progressions all the time writing songs and you should too!

    Love this. As a songwriter I was always afraid to use the same chord progression in more than one song I’ve written but you just reaffirmed that it’s all good to do that. Melody and feel can make it completely different.
    Another great video Forest

      I love it. Sounds great too. Its actually tuned a half step down so a C is actually a B, kinda cool if you write songs a halfstep down

    Great video. I love your style. Great progressions, and I like how you spice them up. Very tasty! 1 is a version of the very popular Canon in D progression (at least the first half of that progression ).
    A variation of the 3rd progression is a favorite of mine: IV-I-V-vi (C, G ,D, Em)--- super popular in pop music. You can sing just about anything over it, and on turns, you just extend the V(D) for an extra measure.

    Forest! This is ridiculous... I mean i've been a guitar player for 15 years now. All the way up to doing session work professionally, with pro people you know. Now shifting gears into mastering the singer songwriter and producing aspects, i sit down with my acoustic wanting to get this progression down and I really SUCK!!! This percussive finger-style is cool i've just never done that typeof playing before. I'll get it down over a couple of days i reckon, but it's kind of hilarious though.

    Hey Forest I appreciate you showing little twists and variations on those chords. I gotta look up the C Chord you are using on that first progression. Is it a Cadd9 or a true C?

    • @chicknurch
      @chicknurch 3 роки тому +1

      Cadd9. He has the pinky and ring finger on the 3rd fret of the E and B strings for all four chords (excluding the hammer ons). The best way to tell is to look where his index finger is placed, in a normal C its on 1st fret B string, in a Cadd9 the index finger is on 2nd fret D string. But C and Cadd9 are entirely interchangeable and serve the same function in the key of G, so it really doesn’t matter what voicing you use, just whichever you like better.
