Graphic Novels - Adapt or DIE!

- Alan Moore has come out to express disdain for the term 'graphic novel' when it is being used to describe a trade collection of comics. Is he right to be upset? Has that term been used wrongly by the industry? Should the comic industry be in fact moving to the graphic novel format instead of the monthly single issues format given the decline of floppy sales?

It is so odd to hear Alan Moore's real voice. In my mind EVS voice over is Alan's voice.
I like collecting single issues but there was a time I was buying nothing but tpb because you get a full story with no ads and no interruption. I eventually went back to single issues but still buy the trades every now and then.
Thank goodness Alan Moore was able to write like a comic book creator back then and hide his rabid insanity.
The title should have been "Adopt (new sales and promotion strategies" or DIE!"
You had one job, Shane!
*Adopt
Not a fan of Moore's voice. Any chance we can use Ethan's impersonation voice & re-do this interview so it would sound better?
I know!
The EVS version sticks with you after hearing it ONLY ONCE! 😅
I still think that's less mental than how rabidly @!#$@# Moore is in real life!
PS - Shane or Yanzi could grab AI voice software, capture a sample of the "EVS version," and edit out the Insane Moore version... Or is that the MORE Insane version...? Hmmmm?
Alan Moore is just a grumpy grump, but yeah, they’re comics.
@8:11 -- The B&N Ceo says "Amazon is B-O-R-I-N-G!"
Meanwhile, the same B&N Ceo does NOT address the white elephant in the room...
IE, the fact that the same "BORING Amazon" frequently undercuts B&N prices by 30-40%!
I have NEVER seen a large ($100+) Omnibus on sale at PHYSICAL B&N locations for 30-40% off!
That might be why B&N generally doesn't carry as many $100 omnibus collections as it once did!
The SMART collectors and fans don't shop at physical bookstore locations anymore to pay 100% MRSP (or better) for physical book collections...
Heck, I don't go to Half-Price Books that much anymore because A) they don't carry a lot of interesting books anymore and B) they mark things up just like a comic book shop/dealer would! So much for "half-price"!
i never liked the term graphic novel. it seemed like rebranding because you're embarrassed of "comic book"
Im getting to the point where im going back to TPBs. Diamond fucked up my pull lists by not shipping books and running out
My niece and nephew’s will not read or collect floppies. The bagging,the boarding,short boxes,long boxes, doesn’t interest them at all. They want attractive books to put on an oak self. Christmas I bought them a bunch of the DC Finest, and they love them. Only thing every story they enjoy in western comics, is at least 20 years old.
Aside from his annoying accent, he's not completely wrong.
Are you talking about Alan Moore or Shane?
@joeshmoe3323 Alan Moore
WATCHMEN was going to be for the Charleston characters what WHATEVER HAPPENED TO THE MAN OF TOMORROW? was for Superman, a finale 😀
Tootin his own horn
It's weird to me, I don't think the Japanese have changed how they operate for like half a century on manga. Seems to be working for them. Maybe the industry actually needs to heed the quote from Michelangelo about stealing aspects from better artists, how about they steal some operating proceedures since this ain't working chief.
Alan Moore is just Rick Astley of comics one hit wonder who been memed to death.
Also Shane! FILL DEM JARS SHANE! 4 JARS!🍼🍼🍼🍼
Ethan sounds more like Alan Moore
I don't agree with Alan's stance on what a graphic novel is.
It's the height of poser-dom to worry about labels of "graphic novel" or "comic book."
Let's be more concerned with the artform surviving in an ECONOMICAL format and less about what the Clueless Normies think!
Watchmen is trash
Way to fumble the title
