I have a small back garden with little sun, but I am starting to experiment with pots. However, I would like to say that I finally went to my mailbox and to my surprise saw you on page 108 of my May 2022 issue of Better Homes & Gardens. I was so excited! Can’t wait to get your book!

Hello Linda! I always enjoy your tours & tips! Thank you for inviting us all to your herb party! 😂 Everything looks lovely... you included!! I'm sure Stuart does too - if we could see him! 🤗
Just wanted to share something... Once when I was harvesting some parsley for a summer salad, I found 2 large beautiful neon green caterpillars in my bowl of parsley! After some research, I discovered that they were Black Swallowtail butterfly caterpillars. They were so pretty - I've been protecting & raising them ever since. Wanted to mention that just in case you or some of your viewers were unaware that parsley & dill are host plants for Black Swallowtail Butterflies!! Be careful... you don't want them to end up in your recipe at any stage of their growth! They literally look like tiny black & white bird poo when young for protection from predators. There are many pictures all over the internet!🐛🌱
Happy Spring! Happy gardening! Linda B. 🙂🙋‍♀️🦋🌷

Fall/winter: Violas, Pansies, Snapdragons, Dianthus (which reblooms in the Spring).

I took a hissy fit with my herb garden this last summer. It had been sorely neglected for a few years now. Out came the 3 tree roots(!) . It was then fertilized, which I haven't really done before. Replanted herbs found all around our home. The highlight has been lavender in pots ,along with the tender herbs. All top dressed with fine gravel. The intention is to bring them into the conservatory in winter. I have not done staging or theater before and have so enjoyed walking past this to our back door. Thankyou Linda for your inspiration and sharing of knowledge. The bridal veil? hydrangea hasn't flowered yet but the foliage is outstanding, can't wait for next spring to come to see the results. Love things in pots!

I love geraniums in pots. They really like to be by themselves best, so I plant them alone. I love large mixed pots of Supertunias and grasses, and angelonia. But my most favorite thing to grow in pots and baskets are herbs and veg; basil, rosemary, lavender, cherry tomatoes, French beans, etc! They’re beautiful and edible!

Veranda Magazine, March-April 2022, has a wonderful article on topiary. The title of the article is "Shape, Snip, Prune, Repeat." Of course, I thought of you, Linda! The writer of the article, Anne Marne, did a The Topiarist Hall of Fame listing of those who are known for their creative imagination and she does not include your name. I was disappointed because you are the very best. I have done some topiary after learning from you on UA-cam and absolutely love it. I do not see a place to place photos but know you have inspired me in so many ways and taught me so much about gardening in general! I look forward to you seeing you on UA-cam. All grown in pots. Herbs: Rosemary-upright grows like a huge bush. Basil-simple and smells amazing. Oregano, Chives, Italian Parsley, Asian Parsley & Parsley and Tarragon. We now grow a wall of tomatoes in our front patio. Flowering plants: Gardenias: I am in mad love with the look and fragrance of the flowers. I have a wedding anniversary Gardenia tree. Hydrangeas, have one that is about 15 years old in a pot and it comes to life every spring. Lavender: Love & cannot stop enjoying lots of lavender all around my patio garden: English, Spanish, French & Portuguese. Lemon Verbena Topiaries: Smell wonderful and so beautiful. Geraniums: I have a hot pink plant in my walkway, it is a huge bush of flowers, about 8 years old. Indoor flowers are sitting on a counter in my kitchen: Orchids are my favorite. Right now, I have four white and one dark purple. My original orchid has so many blooms and the branches just spread out in happiness. I say this orchid is my big show off. :)

Zone 7B, north MS. I love any foliage plant, and use a lot of coleus and caladiums. I dig and store my caladiums and take cuttings from coleus and overwinter them in water on my windowsill or in small pots in the garage. I love the look of potato vines, but in my climate they just take over so can't use them in container combos. My garden peaks in the fall, and I have come to love the hardy mums (Clara Curtis, Brandywine Sunset) and asters. I add more to my collection each year. I even buy a lot of summer annuals that will look good in the fall (toffee twist carex, gold and yellow petchoas). And, of course, anything that flowers in blue looks great in a spring, summer or fall garden.

I'm in Kentucky, Zone 7. Total agreement regarding the love for green and ever-green plants, in contrast to flowering. I much prefer the evergreen anything, and if I want color, then I go with the variegated evergreen (example: hosta) You get way more bang for your buck, and your back, and you can find colorful variegated evergreen perennial that will last through the winter months (in my zone 7 anyway) if you keep it watered. I even use variegated ivy climbing a trellis, in a container, and fill it in with annuals that are blooming, if I decide that I want a spot of color to draw the eye, maybe beside my outdoor rocking chair. Use red to attract hummingbirds.

Zone 5b. I love moss roses for sun, I think they’re such dependable little plants and I appreciate how forgiving they are about water. I also love to add Mediterranean herbs into sunny pots because so many of them have beautiful foliage and interesting flowers, particularly sage, rosemary, and thyme. For shade, I can’t get enough of begonias. They bloom right through the summer without fail, overwinter indoors like champs, and are very forgiving about watering as well (are you sensing a theme?). This year I’m trying out old-fashioned petunias that I’m growing from seed that are supposed to be very fragrant. I’ve never had good luck with transplanting seeds started indoors so we’ll see how this goes. 🤞

GERANIUM!! I also love Bleeding Heart, lavender, and a sweet little vine called Love in a Puff. Laura, from Garden Answers introduced me to Love in a Puff. It's amazing for interest in an arrangement.

I use my containers for annual color….bulbs, dianthus, pansies, snaps for spring. Petunias and other annuals for summer.

Zone 7a (southern NJ) - A few of my favorites for containers in spring and summer are dragon wing begonias, coleus, Angelonia, and elephant ears. This year I’m planning on caladium for my front porch because it’s shaded and the dragon wing begonias make the porch too messy. 😉

Tried to order Claus Dalby’s Containers in the Garden, as I think it will be a wonderful addition to my garden books. Waiting for the arrival of my Elegant and Edible Garden. Alas, Claus Darby’s is not available, so put it on the wait list. Here zone 4a , not ready to plant anything LOL 😂

Zone 9b, standard pineapple guava planted in the ground, more than 30 years old (pruned annually) still get a great crop of fruit. Very easy care, not buggy at all, makes a great privacy hedge. Question for Linda: Do your squirrels eat the creeping thyme?

I don't really change things in containers on a seasonal basis, except bulbs, and fortunately there are perennials that return each year. I just had freesia all around my front garden, for example. I also have various succulents that get wonderful blooms at different times of year. Of course I live in Southern California!

Coleus. But I’ve also loved my red twig dogwood, heavily pruned each year.

I think I will try something new this fall and do a massive planting in pots of white daffodils and tulips.
