I first saw Todd at the Birmingham Odeon on New Street in Birmingham UK. I was mesmerised! I saw this on the Old Grey Whistle test about a week later and I was hooked. I remember this had a bum opening that Todd re started but they seem to have cut that bit. I was 15 years old and I'm going to be 63 in December 2022 but I still remember the Odeon gig like yesterday, particularly the fact that he had Luther Vandros on backing vocals.
I worked at the Odeon onstage and worked this gig. Remember it like yesterday. It was his first appearance and tour in Britain. Todd wore the same clothes as in this video. After the gig, I went into the dressing room and asked for Todd's autograph. Still have it. The next day, I rushed out to HMV on New Street and bought what ever they had of Todd's records. Great gig!

I think Todd is my favorite human being ever, and Utopia is just a freakin' mind-blow, they are so good. They only had Zappa and maybe Yes or ELP at times as anything close to what they were doing (and still do, as of their 2018 reunion!).

Saw him live on October 27th at the John Curtain Bandroom. Was right at the front. Davey Lane and the Drunken Rooster was his pick up band. Davey Lane is a big fan of Todd Rundgren and he played 70% of the lead guitar parts. They blew the roof off. Sadly they did not play this. This is from a distinctly different universe. The Todd Rundgren Universe.

Todd had such a unique way with that wammi bar on the Fender Mustang he played in those days. One of several reasons I love this period in his music. I've always refused to believe it was just more "prog rock". Something made him all but give up using a bar after the mid 70s. Maybe he thought it was just too gimmicky, but to me it was an essential and expressive part of the early Utopia, along with the guitar/synth interplay. Runner up fav thing was Rog's body suits. Priceless clip thanks to OGWT.
Further to my previous post, I remember that I didn't know who was going to be on the whistle test that night, and I missed about the first 20 seconds of Real Man as I setup my cassette player to record the two songs . I played them over and over along with my radio recording of Todd at the Hammersmith in London. I have had a box set of the "At the BBC" collection on CD for a couple of years now, and I now get to listen to my past through Todd.

I'm assuming this is from 1975 - after the dissolving of the Power Sextet, and before Kasim joined, after the release of Initiation and, most likely, right around the time Another Live was released. My first Rundgren show was with this lineup at the Chicago Auditorium Theatre in November, 1975. Unforgettable.

One of my fav early Utopia songs. I love the keyboard sound. I would love to hear a remake of Oops Wrong Planet using the synth type sounds from this song. Actually a few Utopia songs post- this vids era. I was never a fan of Roger using Powell Probe for keyboard sounds, but I understand it was a tech thing for him.
One of Todd and Utopias best live Performances, and I caught a glimpse of Todd’s rig at the end in my opinion his best sound way before Line Six.Starting with the Fender Mustang, at the very end it looks like an EchoPlex tape Delay.
This is my Favorite time period of Utopia and love Todds tone. the gear is a modified Fender Mustang into a Ems Synthi Hi Fli into a Maestro Echoplex into a Sunn Concert Lead head and some 4x12 cabs.Always wanted to try to recreate his rig here but good luck to me to find a Ems Synthi.
John Siegler, who co-wrote "The Seven Rays" with Todd, really brought the funk out in this version.

Interesting you say that as I've watched this video a few times and the intro always caught my attention a bit ... seemed edited ... it was!

One of my fav early Utopia songs. I love the keyboard sound. I would love to hear a remake of Oops Wrong Planet using the synth type sounds from this song. Actually a few Utopia songs post- this vids era. I was never a fan of Roger using Powell Probe for keyboard sounds, but I understand it was a tech thing for him.
What do you do on the keyboards?

One of Todd and Utopias best live Performances, and I caught a glimpse of Todd’s rig at the end in my opinion his best sound way before Line Six.Starting with the Fender Mustang, at the very end it looks like an EchoPlex tape Delay.
This is my Favorite time period of Utopia and love Todds tone. the gear is a modified Fender Mustang into a Ems Synthi Hi Fli into a Maestro Echoplex into a Sunn Concert Lead head and some 4x12 cabs.Always wanted to try to recreate his rig here but good luck to me to find a Ems Synthi.
