I always make the first haul of the month my craziest. That way it will be easier to limit myself to 10-15 criterions on the next haul we're going to do.

I am constantly re watching this series of videos so fun to watch. You guys are so funny, and I love seeing films I like to talk about. Plus I live in Australia so criterion doesn't ship over here and i can not get access to the criterion channel. So its a pain in the ass to get them but my collection is slowly growing. Nice to see you guys living my dream haha

I actually preferred the (2007) Funny Games over the original as well until I watched them back-to-back recently. Now I prefer the original hands down over the 2007 version. They're almost shot for shot, and the original does it so much better.
I want all of you to be my best friends. None of my friends or family share my enthusiasm or understood Criterion. Love seeing the friendship and enthusiasm!! I have a July birthday as well, so I get gift cards and cash and spend it on Criterion’s. Great video!

@Randy White Criterion collecting can be a lonely world if you can't find your tribe. I try explaining it to people, and they look at me like I'm a zoo animal on the loose.
You all have such a lovely passion and it's combined with great taste and knowledge. Very nice. I'm almost embarrassed to say that I've added 44 Criterion movies to my collection this month and we're not even half way 🤯
Nothing to be embarrassed about. Criterions are as good as gold in my book. The kino is just waiting to be scooped up.

A brighter summer day!! That’s my all time favorite movie and the first criterion movie in my collection.
That's an amazing favorite film. Undoubtedly one of the best films ever made. I cannot wait for Carlos to review it.
@@jesusperez7108 me too. It’ll be interesting to see what he thinks about it. Literally tho. In every aspect that film is perfection. The soundtrack, the cinematography, the storytelling, and character development. It really shows the genius of Edward Yang.

Have I convinced you enough? It’s a recent bluray upgrade for the title, it has a criterion release number that is somewhere in the 400s, too lazy to look it up.
Either way. It’s a masterpiece and one of the greatest war films and trilogies ever made.

Huge Billy Wilder fan (might be my favourite director) so I agree that Ace in the Hole is incredible, Sunset Boulevard is a masterpiece but imo The Apartment is his best film, sorry Perry. I will say Bicycle Thieves is an essential film I agree with you there.
No one has yet appeared to realize that Kirk Douglas -- who also produced -- is at the top of his game in "Paths of Glory". As essential as "12 Angry Men," produced by Henry Fonda.
And also see "Anatomy of a Murder," with James Stewart.
Not sure if Perry knew this but the Criterion release of Nashville went out of print in March along with five other Paramount titles that Criterion had in their collection.
Thank you for reminding me. It's such a shame. I love Nashville.

@@Tim_Raths I might check out the Paramount release of Nashville. Luckily Carlos bought me Rosemary's Baby for Christmas. La Dolce Vita is still in the Fellini boxset, and I'm not huge on Don't Look Now or Days of Heaven. I know. Hot takes. I do love Harold & Maude though. I missed out on that one too.

Perry if you love Mike Leigh definitely try to find Happy-Go-Lucky it fits well with Naked as the main character in it (played brilliantly by Sally Hawkins) is the complete opposite of Thewlis' character.
I will definitely check out Happy Go Lucky. I still got to watch Topsy-turvy too.

Me thinking about how 10/13 of the criterions i picked up were blind buys
I almost always walk away with at least one blind buy. There’s something exhilarating about taking that chance on some kino. But Erick is the king of blind buying.
@@TheMisfitPond i’m new to the criterion collection so no matter what i buy the majority will be blind buys. i also have a trust that if it’s in the collection it’s probably not bad.
I have seen over 200 criterion films, and I watch criterion films all the time so I never have to blind buy again.
There’s films that I’ve seen on criterion that I choose to take a pass on for a blind buy cause I’m psychotic.

Saw it last year! Very good, although my least favourite Mungiu movie for now. I think Graduation and 4 months, 3 weeks, 2 days are stronger. To me, it feels a tad bit too long, but beyond that, it does everything else amazingly.

@@jesusperez7108 Been some time since I've last seen it. The trailer is pretty bad. Then again, a lot of trailers from the nineties, particularly for "indie flicks", are bad, and often misrepresentative of the overall tone of the movie.
@@UToobin75 Honestly I'm not huge on movie trailers. I like to go into films blind. All I need to know about the film is writer, director, and production company.
@@jesusperez7108 I recently watched some trailers from smaller releases I remember fondly, movies which haven't made the transition to Blu-ray, films like Dominick and Eugene (1988), Hangin' with the Homeboys (1991), Smoke (1995), Box of Moonlight (1996), and Tree's Lounge (1996) to name but a few, and came away thinking that the trailers made these otherwise good movies look bad. A byproduct of the era I suppose.
@@UToobin75 I agree. Trailers from the late 80s through the 90s were especially bad. A lot of indie film companies just don't know how to market their movies. Even A24 struggle with marketing their films unless it's a certified banger like The Lighthouse or Uncut Gems. Little off topic, but Box of Moonlight is such an underrated film. Turturro and Rockwell have such great chemistry in the film.

We do not. I'm strictly a criterion collector. I don't even like buying regular blu rays.
@@jesusperez7108 maybe it's better that way. I started with Criterion over ten years ago and then recently within the last three years got into Vinegar Syndrome, Shout Factory, Kino Lorber, Indicator, Arrow, Severin and collecting slipcovers. It's can be expensive. Ugh!

Only real film heads buy outside of criterion. Vineger syndrome has best packaging next to criterion. Happy to see mike Leigh love and what a shame to say Europa by von trier is bad

@@JavaJunky I don't budget. We're doing multiple hauls this month. I just make a list of 30 must owns for the month of July. I knocked out half of the list in this haul.
I try to limit myself to 5 every haul.. key word “try”. i might end up blind buying a lot of stuff during the next haul
