Fantastic haul but you‘re breaking my heart dude 😭😂 Kobayashi is such a fantastic director….The Human Condition, Hara-Kiri, Kwaidan, Samurai Rebellion…May the Kinolords be with you…next time.
You know, I felt the same way about Picnic at Hanging Rock after watching it the first time, but after sitting on it awhile, I feel strangely compelled to revisit it soon.
I love this content. I buy Criterions like you guys do. I'm up to 191 on blu-ray, 1 on 4k, 80 on DVD, 3 Essential art house titles and 4 Eclipse sets. Thank you for finally scooping Blue Velvet!
I think Perry is about to run into the same issue I have, at some point it gets harder and harder to find ones you want that you don’t already own. He’s going to need to start looking at other labels like Warner Archive or Kino Lorber.
Yes! Finally got Blue Velvet! Glad you got Secrets and Lies too, it's fantastic. Also have to throw another recommendation out there for The Human Condition, one of the best film trilogies of all time.
"Chimes at Midnight" is actually Welles' take on John Falstaff, who features prominently in "Henry IV" parts 1 and 2 (which were also the inspiration for another film in the collection, "My Own Private Idaho"), not "Henry V". He combined and truncated them to just scenes with Falstaff (who hangs out with "Hal", who will LATER become Henry V) and a few scenes lifted from "Richard II" (the play before the "Henry IV" plays) and "Henry V" (the play right after the 2 "Henry IV" parts). Legend has it that Queen Elizabeth I asked Shakespeare to write a play about Falstaff in love, which became "The Merry Wives of Windsor". Perry's almost-blind-buy "Throne of Blood" is actually Kurosawa's take on "Macbeth".
I second whoever recommended Gomorrah. One of my favorites in the whole Criterion Collection and doesn’t seem to get any love from anyone. Definitely a must watch
I owned Gomorrah for years on hearsay, but it never appealed to me at all. Until I watched it the other day. One of my favorite mafia movies now. It felt so realistic.
I was going to go to the store today for a few picks but broke on a fair priced sealed copy of “Le cercle rouge” blu on eBay. About the price of 5 criterion blu but worth it
Mitchy getting snubbed is hilarious to me because I've introduced quite a few movies to y'all and I barely get a thank you sometimes 🤣🤣🤣🤣 Also Perry, I'm glad you for got Chimes at Midnight bc it's not in person on blu ray where I live
I tried watching the Color of Pomegranates on the Criterion Channel, it's one of the few films I couldn't finish. It's 100% an art piece, and perhaps its because I tried watching it during a lunchbreak at work, but there's no real narrative or anything, it's just beautiful 'set pieces' after another. It looked gorgeous and I really wanted to like it 10 minutes in, but it completely felt like a chore to finish. Just my opinion though, but it might still be streaming on the channel.
I did my last haul on Wednesday. I've gotten 12 criterions this month. Here's all I got: Bigger Than Life Funny Games Mona Lisa La Strada Gimme Shelter The Vanishing Portrait of a Lady on Fire The Comfort of Strangers Close-Up Taste of Cherry Throne of Blood The Fisher King
I would definitely recommend watching Color of Pomegranates before buying it. It’s an acquired taste, basically just a series of beautiful images with no real storyline.
Just came from Barnes and Noble. Appears the Citizen Kane 4K might have a manufacturing defeat and the stores yanked all copies from the shelves. Anyone else seeing this? Anyone have a working disc?
Yeah 2018 didn't have a great lineup for best picture nominees. The Favourite would've been my pick only because Annihilation and Cold War weren't nominated haha. As for the Mulholland Drive 4k. A good upgrade in resolution and hdr grading. But it's a dark film, so a strange choice by criterion to start showing off 4k.
Shame about Some Like it Hot, but you won me back with double De Palma! Also happy to see the Blue Velvet curse break. Would have been disappointed if you picked Rushmore. I really hate that film haha
Big fan of your videos. I appreciate the wealth of knowledge you all have about cinema. Perry is so off base about Hedwig tho! (That was the last pickup video I know :p)
They have some good titles but they do a lot of cult horror that I either haven’t seen or just am not huge on. The only argento I’ve seen is Opera and I liked it.
Although Criterion is the best at what they do but i recommend everyone to spread the love to The Olive Collection, Kino Lorber, Shout Factory, and Twilight Time for the work that they do, too
Yessir they do! Here’s a support page that can help you out if you need it. Thanks for considering the support ! :) support.patreon.com/hc/en-us/articles/360040486792-Using-Apple-Pay-as-your-payment-method
You guys better have two day jobs to keep up with the addiction! Great video as always. Haven’t seen any Altman movie might have to check some out. Cheers.
You got it! Absolutely you guys do a great job on the channel so keep it going! Will do. Surprised it’s 3 hours but it’s a commercial compared to The Human Condition. 😂
lord are you guys lame,You never seen "CARRIE" or Phantom of the paradise? yet you thibk Scarface is a masterpiece? you hipsters really need to get out more
I have seen Carrie. It’s a good movie. Just recently saw phantom of the paradise. great movie. Scarface is still my favorite . It’s hard to decide what my second favorite is. Probably phantom of the paradise
He did it guys! He FINALLY broke the “Blue Velvet” curse 🙌
Our national nightmare is over!
Paradjanov is the best!! The Color of Pomegranates is a masterpiece.
Guys this is a historic day many of us thought we would never live to see!!! Carlos finally bought Blue Velvet 👏👏👏
This could be 1 hour - 2 hours long or have part 10 - 12 and I would still be entertained. Criterion should always have a sale just for you guys!
I have no idea how Perry affords all of those. Lol
*early next year*
"Criterion is pleased to announce Blue Velvet in 4k UHD!"
Fantastic haul but you‘re breaking my heart dude 😭😂 Kobayashi is such a fantastic director….The Human Condition, Hara-Kiri, Kwaidan, Samurai Rebellion…May the Kinolords be with you…next time.
Kwaidan is a beautiful film.
You know, I felt the same way about Picnic at Hanging Rock after watching it the first time, but after sitting on it awhile, I feel strangely compelled to revisit it soon.
Colour of Pomegranates is fantastic! Definitely quite a psychedelic film, with practically flawless visuals
The most epic channel of all time
I though I was going crazy this month but you guys are on another level. I respect it.
you would have loved "Some like ist hot" and "color of pomigranates" (top 5 most visualy stricung films)
When I saw the title of this video the first thing I thought was "Carlos finally pulled the trigger on Blue Velvet." 😀
I love this content. I buy Criterions like you guys do. I'm up to 191 on blu-ray, 1 on 4k, 80 on DVD, 3 Essential art house titles and 4 Eclipse sets. Thank you for finally scooping Blue Velvet!

Hopper can finally Rest In Peace, thank you
I second whoever recommended Gomorrah. One of my favorites in the whole Criterion Collection and doesn’t seem to get any love from anyone. Definitely a must watch
I liked Gomorrah, but Matteo Garrone's other films, in particular Reality and Dogman, were alot more enjoyable to me.
I owned Gomorrah for years on hearsay, but it never appealed to me at all. Until I watched it the other day. One of my favorite mafia movies now. It felt so realistic.
THE CURSE IS LIFTED, WE ARE FREE!!!!
Now we need to find a new movie to meme
Ah yes! You’ve caught on to the plan lol
Got all the haul titles you got in your video. Well done on Blue Velvet.
japon is the only criterion i purchased, watched, and sold man. i just dont see myself rewatching it
I was going to go to the store today for a few picks but broke on a fair priced sealed copy of “Le cercle rouge” blu on eBay. About the price of 5 criterion blu but worth it
Seen Japon, and it is a very unusual film, slow and almost documentary-like, but well worth the watch and im glad i was able to see it.
Throne of blood has one of the best cinematography. 2nd best kurosawa movie for me
"He made this film and then would go on a long hiatus in the seventies until The Thin Red Line."
Dude. You forgot about Days of Heaven.
Every time the camera points to the left I see Barry Lyndon and feel antsy I haven't bought it yet.
that 2001 shirt is so sick
Yay he finally did it nice one
This is an outrage. You need to return Blue Velvet immediately and keep the streak alive
That 2001 shirt! I wonder how much that cost…?
Before i finish watching, that 2001 Space Odyssey shirt 🔥
Mitchy getting snubbed is hilarious to me because I've introduced quite a few movies to y'all and I barely get a thank you sometimes 🤣🤣🤣🤣

Are you going to pick up any of the heavy hitters coming out on 4K criterion Tuesday Carlos?!?
Citizen Kane and Uncut Gens baby!!
I did my last haul on Wednesday. I've gotten 12 criterions this month. Here's all I got:
Bigger Than Life
Funny Games
Mona Lisa
La Strada
Gimme Shelter
The Vanishing
Portrait of a Lady on Fire
The Comfort of Strangers
Close-Up
Taste of Cherry
Throne of Blood
The Fisher King
I would definitely recommend watching Color of Pomegranates before buying it. It’s an acquired taste, basically just a series of beautiful images with no real storyline.
I hope this series ends without a bankruptcy.
FINALLLY!
What do you think of Altman’s “Ready to wear”?
Just came from Barnes and Noble. Appears the Citizen Kane 4K might have a manufacturing defeat and the stores yanked all copies from the shelves. Anyone else seeing this? Anyone have a working disc?
Yea criterion confirmed this and have posted the ways you can return your disc and receive a new one. It’s on their social media accounts.
What made you finally break down and get Blue Velvet? All the pressure from everyone?
With all options considered, it just felt right
@@TheMisfitPond I just picked up Ivan's Childhood. Have you seen it? It was a blind buy.
Another awesome haul!
Al fin compraste Blue Velvet! 👏
"Lynn Ramsey: arguably the bes female filmmaker working today". Kelly Reichardt: "Hold my Kombucha".
Lmao I’ve only seen her most recent film First Cow and loved it. I’ve gotta watch her other films like Wendy and Lucy.
Celine Sciamma: hold my paint bucket
Shame about Some Like it Hot, but you won me back with double De Palma!
Also happy to see the Blue Velvet curse break. Would have been disappointed if you picked Rushmore. I really hate that film haha
My boy Perry must have a very successful career lol 💸💸💸
Big fan of your videos. I appreciate the wealth of knowledge you all have about cinema. Perry is so off base about Hedwig tho! (That was the last pickup video I know :p)
Hell yess. You finally got Blue Velvet!!!
You not my son anymore, I can’t believe you pick blue velvet 😂
Holy friggin motors, he finally copped blue velvet
It’s finally happened 😮🤣 Another fantastic haul!
Night Of The Hunter and Some Like It Hot are 2 of my favorite movies.
Respect the Kinomen
🥸👌🔥
"I tend not to like too much from Arrow." Say what. Arrow puts out nothing but quality. Argento 4Ks. Hello.
They have some good titles but they do a lot of cult horror that I either haven’t seen or just am not huge on. The only argento I’ve seen is Opera and I liked it.
@@TheMisfitPond It's all good! 😎 Definitely check out the Arrow release of Bava's Blood and Black Lace.
Although Criterion is the best at what they do but i recommend everyone to spread the love to The Olive Collection, Kino Lorber, Shout Factory, and Twilight Time for the work that they do, too
Throne of blood is an awesome movie.. you should get it Perry..
Does patreon accept Apple Pay?

Jump on board my man! You won’t regret it!
these vids are fun
You guys better have two day jobs to keep up with the addiction! Great video as always. Haven’t seen any Altman movie might have to check some out. Cheers.
Thanks dude! I technically do have two jobs if you include this channel lol and PLEASE watch Short Cuts first!! I think it’s a great starting point
You got it! Absolutely you guys do a great job on the channel so keep it going! Will do. Surprised it’s 3 hours but it’s a commercial compared to The Human Condition. 😂
Nashville. My favorite Altman movie.
Night of hunter would have been better without s Winters
can I not believe you didn't you didn't pick up "some like hot", as a movie buff that you never saw the movie.
Sex lies and videotape should be a must
Haven’t seen it yet though. Gonna watch it today
Rushmore
low tier wes anderson how?????
As in…ALL his other movies are better!
HURRAY
I only watched for the blue velvet curse. Unsubbing now!
Moonstruck sux ugh
lord are you guys lame,You never seen "CARRIE" or Phantom of the paradise? yet you thibk Scarface is a masterpiece? you hipsters really need to get out more
I have seen Carrie. It’s a good movie. Just recently saw phantom of the paradise. great movie. Scarface is still my favorite . It’s hard to decide what my second favorite is. Probably phantom of the paradise
I never said Scarface was a masterpiece. I have seen Phantom of the Paradise, and I have seen Carrie several times.
Blow out sux. It’s an awful movie. With it being Brian Depalma, I expected so much more!
Damn I thought it was great. I have a fair share of issues with it but still great
It is great. If you love Blowout, you definitely need to see Francis Ford Coppola’s The Conversation if you haven’t already.
