BargainPaper, I just had the p2442 pop up today and I want to order this kit. My questions before doing so are; Is it still working as expected?; And, Was your gas mileage any different after applying this bypass?
It is still working for me! I have had no obvious gas mileage issues. My truck is on a 3/1 lift with 35" tires and I have a canopy. My normal mixed MPG is around 14-15.
There is a factory recall on the air induction system, 10 years or 150,000 mi. which ever came first. I just missed the milage deadline, if you haven't gotten to the milage, get to the dealership.
Hi BARGAINPAPER so after you do the install did you clear the code then start it up and drive it. It never returned right? Good videos by the way and LIKE your truck!
Thank you very much! My truck is now 12 years old, but I'd like to think it still looks nice! I disconnected the battery before I did all this work and was prepared to clear all the codes, but I believe they were gone after I reconnected the battery and started it back up. We are closing in on a year since I did this bypass and I have had no issues/no codes since.
You would have to look into the 'air induction pump' failure for the Tundra to see what specific check engine lights (and other dash) lights turn on/flash to know specifically what I saw. Also, I'm pretty sure the truck goes in to a limp mode as well. Sorry that I cannot remember the specifics, its been a couple of years.
Is it possible to pass California emission test with block off plates? I have tried the Hewitt bypass but there was an issue P2438 after installing the bypass kit in my 2010 tundra 5.7L. We still on process solving the issue. The owner suspected that my ASV (auto switching valve) is aftermarket. So the next step is to order the PSO addon (pressure sensor option)
I cannot give good advice in regards to California emissions tests. BUT my understanding would be that these pumps only 'prime' the cats. Meaning that, even with the pumps not running, once the vehicle is up to temperature, the cat's should still be operating normally. I would suspect however, that if you have a CEL, you would probably not pass.
BargainPaper installed mines last night it worked this morning i was driving at 80 on the highway which i havent done in a long time but right after work i turned my truck on and lights came back on but truck is driving normal idk wth
I found a super fast way of installing it. Take a long 1/4 extension. Place the female end of the extension on that bolt stud. Then place a ratchet strap on the 1/4 extension. Kinda so it looks like a bow and arrow. The cool thing is you can’t over do it with the ratchet, it will bottom out. You’ll see what I mean. It takes like 5 minutes to slip those plates in.
