  • Here are some tips to help learn or bring consistency to your monkey jumps in the rolling plane of movement. Mastery of the "Orbit" manipulation is extremely helpful along with understanding how to keep the rolling pattern constant without disruption of the wheel. The orbit allows repetition of the blind hand placement. The rolling pattern on the ground, teaches you how to have a light touch on the wheel. Its very easy to grab the wheel aggressively on the jumps which often causes the rolling patter to disrupt into spin. Once a rolling 1/2 turn is established, the full turn can be initiated. The full turn jump can only be as good or consistent as the JUMP so in this video the jump is emphasized more than completion of the skill back on to the wheel. Have fun!

Sam... of all the CYR tutorials on youtube, I have learned more from you than any one else. I just don't have the correct surface right now to spin, so I have suspended my training for a little while till I move in my new place. I like some of the simple exercises you have shown... I hope you are faring well in your new studio. You might like Wyoming till the dust settles on the West Coast. There might be a domain for CYR Wheel Performing Artist in Buffalo Bill Rodeos... haha

This will probably sound silly and super basic, but could you throw up a video about orbits and ways to enter into the wheel?

xcetrax It’s not silly at all. It’s a really wonderful skill to have mastered. I’m certainly not a master at it yet but fortunate to have a role model ( David Poznanter) Who in my opinion has it mastered. David set an excellent example for me to follow. Later company member David Mats, gave me a simple little tip, regarding the trajectory of the hand when releases the wheel. This also helped me tremendously. So, long answer even longer… I would be happy to share what I have learned and the systematic approach I now teach.
