    Hi nurse Liz,thanks for the video.I had attended FNP interview 2 days before.I couldn’t perform well unfortunately.That is a state college but the college is 17 miles away from my home.I have a private college offering np program near my house.can you help me to make a decision?should I need to apply in private college,which is relatively expensive (1210$ per credit) or wait to reapply in state college next year?please help..

      Are you looking at any online schools? Some may have rolling admission so you could still get in for next year. I think it totally depends on your situation. I have quite a bit of undergrad loans so for me, that price point per credit would be a bit much (mine was about 980/credit). But if that’s not an issue, then go for it! Just remember that most programs have around 40 credits, so it can add up quick. Also even though your interview didn’t end up as you’d planned, use that experience for your benefit and practice those questions! Because I’m sure they’ll turn up again at the next interview :)

    do you know how they take in consideration someone's GPA if they got a bachelors and then did an accelerated program?

    • @NurseLiz
      @NurseLiz  5 років тому +1

      I did this. I think it depends on the school. I asked, and mine requested my original undergrad GPA as well as my nursing school GPA.

    Is there a universal letter of recommendation portal? I’d like to apply for a few schools and don’t want to ask my references to repeat the process multiple times.

    • @NurseLiz
      @NurseLiz  6 років тому

      TwinkieToes there isn’t as far as I know, which is frustrating. I had mine keep the letter and use it for each application. I totally get wanting to make it as easy as possible for them through! Since they are already helping you out by writing it. How many are you applying to?

    Hey Liz I know this is an older video, but I figured I’d ask since you didn’t go into detail about the online programs/BSN to NP bridge programs. I’ve heard of a bridge program in my area which is for people with their ADN who go to school mostly online and graduate with their masters without getting the bachelors. for me, it seems like one of those too good to be true things. They are an accredited school and come highly recommended by colleagues, but I still am skeptical. Can you talk about the pros and cons or credibility of programs like this? I’d love to hear your insight

    • @NurseLiz
      @NurseLiz  6 років тому

      Hey! I have definitely heard of these. I think they are fairly new, but that doesn't mean they are bad! Especially if it is at an accredited university. With all things, I would check out the graduation rates, job placement statistics, and boards passing rates. To be totally honest I'm not incredibly knowledgable about these. But, If that seems like the perfect fit for you then go for it! A lot of the things that you get when doing ADN to BSN are research and leadership classes. Grad school has a good amount of leadership and is incredibly heavy on the research. So I don't feel like you will be missing out on anything by "Not having your BSN". if that makes sense. Early entry programs where you don't have a nursing degree and you enter and exit with a MSN make me a bit nervous. but ADN --> MSN actually seems like a cool concept to me!

    • @s_zare
      @s_zare 6 років тому

      You’re right. I’m still in the early stages of researching this but it seems like a caveat is that even with an associates in nursing, you have to be a practicing nurse for at least a couple years to be eligible for the bridge program.. so even though you’re not in school for that time it doesn’t necessarily mean you’ll have an MSN “faster” if that makes sense. I also worry that because this is an accelerated and online program, I won’t feel confident in my work, but I think that’s just my personal self doubt and not about the quality of the programs.

    Great video Nurse Liz! What school did you get to for your NP schooling in? Also, did you have research experience before applying to the program? I heard having research looks great when applying to NP programs. Thanks!

    • @NurseLiz
      @NurseLiz  6 років тому

      Kenny Veliz I went to Michigan state. I did have some research experience from my first undergrad degree in psychology. But it wasn’t a lot! And I don’t recall them asking me about it in my interview or anything

    Hi Liz! I love love love love your channel. Thank you for sharing and being amazing. CONGRATS on passing boards! A unique question here. Besides checking in specifically with the specific universities that I am considering applying for, do you have any thoughts on if declining a flu vaccine and adult boosters would disqualify an applicant (assuming that all other qualifications are met/exceeded?). EVEN if this university allows the student to coordinate clinicals and the particular clinical site is one that allows declinination of the flu vaccine (certainly not in the acute care setting, but other settings do exist). Any thoughts? I thank you in advance for any input you may have.

    • @NurseLiz
      @NurseLiz  6 років тому

      Registered Nurse 2018 thank you!! So when I applied I didn’t have to show proof of my immunizations until after I was already accepted. So I don’t think it would affect your acceptance, they may just give you a hard time before clinical begins. Are the schools you are applying to requiring proof for the application process itself? Best of luck with the process!’ Those applications are no joke!

    • @bravingbeautiful
      @bravingbeautiful 6 років тому

      Thank you! No, so far the programs I am looking at do not have that listed as a requirement, I was thinking as well it may be a bridge to cross after (hopefully!) acceptance and before clinicals. So thank you for seconding that thought :)

    Do NP programs offer scholarships when you apply to the program or do you pretty much pay the advertised tuition?

    • @NurseLiz
      @NurseLiz  6 років тому

      TwinkieToes you can definitely apply for scholarships! I applied to some both through my school and a few through the local NP organization, I didn’t personally get any, but a few of my friends did!
