- The CAA rules have been notified, four years after the citizenship amendment act was passed on December 11, 2019, reigniting passion among the Matua community people in West Bengal. But the rules, as being stated for now, mandate every application to have documents attached for consideration. People from the Matua community, a marginalised Hindu Namasudra sect had escaped violence and turmoil in Bangladesh before landing in India. Most of them lack documents confirming their Bangladeshi descent. This ground report captures the renewed excitement among people but also a sense of confusion that the CAA rules 2024 have brought upon them.

Your document does not include section I A or I B without which one cannot know what documents are needed. What is the point of this long documents which are only application forms but not the list of documents needed.

If the MP is not elected by "Indians" then his MPship should be revoked and declared null and void.
If designated documents cannot provide "security", what will? Certificate from shakha offices? Ridiculous argument to claim this is to ensure safety or citizenship. If anyone is allowed to vote, then by default they are citizens of the country, and refuting this would put the veracity of electoral practices in India at stake and put every single person in this country to harassment, suspicion and unlawful vigilantism.
If they apply for a passport they cannot get it now before CAA. That is why CAA is needed. Voters card or adhar card is not a proof of citizenship.

It is a commendable job to go in the den of Matua's and questioning the BJP minister. Great ground reporting. The last Matua person clearly said the he have SC certificate, how can some one feel that they are not Indian citizen even if possessing SC certificate?? Its the cruel 2003 citizenship amendments that made them state less which actually brought by earlier NDA government. All the problems of pass port started 2003 onwards and started to implement dangerously after 2014. Tamal da what ever document you have to prove your citizenship, they also have the same documents. No body ever questioned about their nationality. Its only the BJP by their cruel 2003 citizenship law and after 2014 coming to power again made them believe that they are inferior than any common Indian.

@@himadrib4743 because those buggers never thought of what might come after 2014, they never thought that RSS will have full power. Actually not only the 2003 ones, the citizenship amendments before that also was disturbing in terms Bengali Refuges, neither the congress nor the left never shades the cloak on this dark laws. If you go through all the old laws about citizenship , you will start questioning about your citizenship too. But the 2003 ones are the darkest because 1) it put a barrier on the citizenship by birth up to 87, and 2) a new word it added, "illegal immigrants" , these are main killers.

I have a question, on what legal basis a person prosecuted from BD got his/her Aadhar Card, Voter Card & PAN Card without applying for citizenship. A Big fishy game had happened in our country after independence and its a genuine big threat nations security.. They were fed (Ration Card), they elected their representative (Voter Card), they opened their Bank Account (PAN Card) and above all have their Aadhar Card. In this way anyone from neighboring countries infiltrate India can easily make their citizen card .... Isn`t it ??

What a dumb reporting(though ground and emotional and nice editing). The reporter incites the 80 year old lady who has nothing to do with CAA, apparently the ones who had documents and have applied for citizenship before 2014 would have their citizenship fastracked by 6 years (11 years to 5 years). Clearly the reporter is either misinformed or trying to create "Dar ka mahaul".

The adhar clearly says 'This is only proof of identity , not of citizenship' , I don't know how the journalists say "if you have all documents you are already citizens" , no they are not , The law before CAA can take their citizenship anytime even if they have identity documents .
Current CAA gives them citizenship , and for documentation of CAA the mentioned proofs are just a legal thing written , everyone knows it is not possible to show such proofs anymore . There will be a self declaration or declaration from concerned officers stating they are living here for this much time and so .

I would suggest wait and watch than drawing immediate inference else your credibility will come under scanner.
Don't think you even go through the bill itself, the rules will come later. The bills clearly states that people who had been exempted from 1920 pass port act, 1946 foreigner's act, and most importantly from 1955 citizenship act clause 6B before the cut off date of CAA can apply and according to JPC proceedings the central IB stated that only 31310 people are eligible for applying under CAA country wise and the number in West Bengal was 147 ONLY. Now the rules which came this week stated in point 2. sub point 3. that every application shall be accompanied by one foreign document, one Indian document and one affidavit which have been claimed by the BJP minister as self declaration. You should read the bill and rule first.

Point 2. sub point 3. stated that "Every application SHALL BE ACCOMPANIED BY" one foreign document, one Indian document, and one affidavit which the BJP Minister interprets as self declaration.
