I was a teenager in the 70's, we went dancing all the time!! The music back then was lit!!! I had the best time of my life. It was a time when it was safe to go out. No phones,no gun violence.
These are the best years in music. No cell phones, true groove music and dancing..we just "enjoyed the moments" when we had them. We were out, rollerskating, playing on the park, swimming, having natural good fun!! Played handball, stickball, paddle ball, you named it, we claimed it!!
BAD Ass song! This song reminds me of kicking back in the hood chilling with your friends hanging out on the corner being up to no good chasing women and having fun I love this video. I watch it least two to three times a week it's my motivation song.
Reminded me of Shaft, too! I think it was the wawa pedal that did it! Yea, no internet, no computers, no free music except the radio. You had to own it or listen to it when someone on the radio played it! Lots of good and bad back then. Also a lot less biased media, back in the day. I grew up in rural Nebraska. My late husband enlisted (volunteered for the draft so they couldn’t send him to ‘Nam), met blacks then, 1972. Scared to death! Ha! Found out they are just like white people, just different color. I just wish all the prejudice wasn’t as prevalent back then. So long ago.......

Temptations My Girl is a beautiful song I was brought up in the 60s/70s and I’m 65now and this is my all time great no song can beat it. It has great meaning for me personally.
I'll never forget, I had the honor of doing security back stage for The Temptations once. I saw with my own eyes how they got into a circle and prayed before they went on stage, I prayed as they did, to myself. It was an honor I'll never forget.
One of my all-time favorite songs. Especially this version. I have the Temps DVD set that has all their hit songs and special bonus items. I liked the separation of recording their vocals from the band. Unique sounds!
The was Soul Train. Back in the early 70's the did the show in Chicago. In the later years the show moved to L.A. The Scene from Themptations TV Movie.
I used to watch Soul Train! I loved all the Motown music...I miss those soulful sounds. I was indeed blessed with a momma who introduced ALL kinds of music...even French!
This was soul train, this is don cornelious, wishing you, love peace and soul. Great day and age i lived through all thismotown, the music was the best. This is dixie from texas
In the movie The Temptations; the group's anxiety toward singing how Papa was a rolling stone in the recording studio. It had me near tears and shaking my head with the '5' to the rhythm giving justice to this melody in telling a story. Few understood my father, but Mama did. It showed what is meant by singing with truth, a rare honesty. Suddenly they were giving their all as the trumpets, with a string orchestration and drums bursting from the heart! It was real and always to be remembered for that was the day my daddy died.
Loved the Temptations! Another favorite group of that era, The Four Tops, with songs like I CAN'T HELP MYSELF, REACH OUT I'LL BE THERE, SAME OLD SONG, BABY I NEED YOUR LOVING, IF I WERE A CARPENTER...hit after hit!

This is Soul Train bro'. I watched it everyday after school. Loved the chill vibe and the amazing artists. Major Temptations fan. But this is the best song they recorded.
As a real half assed songwriter myself, I have to admit that the line "And when he died, all he left us was alone" is one of the greatest, most emotion filled lines ever written. Add to that one of the best grooves in pop music history, and this is one of the best songs ever written. BTW, I LOVE seeing you get into this music. You younger guys have really been screwed out of the best music ever. To see you discover something so wonderful is a real treat for some of us old guys. Keep it up, you're in for some real heart filling music.
The period between about '65 through around '88 was filled with amazing music (and disco) and largely empty of a lot of tech more complicated than HiFi Stereo. PCs weren't relevant until the mid-80s, phones were still hard-wired, answering machines didn't become a thing until the late '70s, VCRs didn't go mainstream until the early 80s, music didn't go digital (CDs) until ~'85, and for all intents and purposes there was no public Internet. It was a fun time...well, except for the racism, sexism, Vietnam, OPEC, and AIDS. But other than that...yeah. The era had a heck of a soundtrack. LPs. 45s. 8-tracks. Cassettes. American Bandstand. Soul Train. Midnight Special. And, eventually, MTV (when they played videos).
There is no question that music was King then. And many of the songs were Conscious songs about the very things you described. I remember wearing Bill Withers I Cant Write Left Handed out. I had a brother MIA (eventually found) It made be delay enlist and understand the value of school.
