I have been thinking to move to Egypt for a while now, most likely Alexandria or wherever I can go. I am an American too. I first want to visit (wanted to visit for years) and then I will decide to live there, but when I visit, I am sure I would not want to leave lol. I love ancient Egyptian history, the culture, etc. I respect the main religion, but to live in a country where it was my dream destination to travel...I can only imagine

Okay, we'll help weigh in as well. First off, are you paying using a housing stipend?
Here's what we know about the market in Cairo.
Oil companies and others have been paying large summons for housing for their expats. Some apartment/rental house owners have gotten used to these outrageous stipends and they continue to ask for them. They seemingly continue to get them on some level because these places are still getting rented. Rest assume that if you're not getting a housing stipend and don't want to be paying over $1,000 per month, you'll be fine and you'll find a suitable place, but you need to keep looking. If you're only seeing high dollar places, change your real estate agent. Happy house hunting, Brian.
