I was listening to this in school and the world i discribe in my mind is making me so emotional it's about my parents and how they are fighting and I'm sitting there next to them watching them. Then my father is walking out of the house and im alone and i have nobody around me my mom also goes out of the room and im just sitting there...alone.
I remember reading H.G. Wells- he once wrote in a non-fiction book of his of a religious group in Europe. They predicted that people would communicate with music in the future and not use words anymore. Hey, phase might make a crazy basis for the new spoken word!
Mike Oldfield has a lot of inspiration on this kind of minimalist music. I must confess I smiled when I read your comment, Mike Oldfield is my favourite composer so I'm always glad when someone remembers him haha.
I have done it with piano keyboard background made on Sibelius. I've also tried his Six Pianos, Violin Phase, Drumming and others. Such a great thing. What's Musanim?
I really admire you for putting this on UA-cam. I've done this for myself at home. Have you made a recording of a static tempo piano and tried playing against it yourself?
+Nathaniel Leitch Thank you! Yes, I already tried to play it against a recording on a keyboard. But, not being a professional musician myself (i study math at university), it sounds more like Ligeti, but still interesting. For the sheet and the music on this video, I used Sibelius 7. I also think about doing it again with a musanim visualization.
+Vincent Laberge You and I are very similar in one aspect. I got into university for math, too and I really think this kind of music is interesting as well. Only thing is I am a professional musician as well :)
That makes sense. "Une barque sur l'océan" by Ravel played in this movie and Steve Reich was clearly influenced by the impressionists, including Ravel.
Hyun Yoo Park It is a new type of pleasure for me: seeing complex patterns emerging from a simple process. If you absolutely need harmonic motion in your music, more power to you (Reich began to use harmonic motion in Music for mallet, organ and voice. He became more accessible throughout the years)
Sorry, it's just a visualisation of the resulting patterns. Also, a digital track of step phasing is quite painful to do (pure phasing is easy on the other hand)
Thank you for 100k views!!! 🎉
It’s incredible
My eyes say math
My mind says wow
My ears can’t get enough
My whole body screams Dance
Even though this is not really the piece, it helped me understand the actual piece better. Thank you.
WOW!
great thanks.... the "result" scale ... fascinating

Thank you for showing this visualization. Greetings from the Netherlands! -Devin
Super de l'avoir fait, et publié !
This is better than the piece itself. It's hypnotizing

Dear Sir / Madam, May I use part of this record (about one minute) in a long-distance video lesson for high school students?
Sure, I am happy to help you!

So languid. Belongs in Call Me By Your Name

Here is how I do it on guitar: ua-cam.com/video/9BG9hP6gqYc/v-deo.html Mine is a faster cycle, but the phases are pretty clear.
does this piece actually have a key ? I know its on D key but does it matter ?
Hyun Yoo Park it doesn't have functional harmony so the idea of a key seems rather pointless for what I see.
Matekon how am I suppose to enjoy this just by listening to it's sound ?
Hyun Yoo Park It is a new type of pleasure for me: seeing complex patterns emerging from a simple process. @@matekon2 I find this method used in progressive house music, particularly deadmau5's plucks/arps it seems...
It’s actually B minor
uhhh where's the PHASING?
Sorry, it's just a visualisation of the resulting patterns. Also, a digital track of step phasing is quite painful to do (pure phasing is easy on the other hand)
nice...but it is called piano PHASE
I wanted more to show the structures that result from phasing than the phasing itself.
Umm…
Digital music....
