I found it fascinating how Democrats would sit around and glare at each other, knowing that they have an army of useful idiots/enforcers at their disposal, to not only chant and recite the mantras, but to simultaneously strike fear in the heart of non-believers! And the fact that it was not only allowed to happen, but it was praised on the left tells you everything you need to know about those people, and that particular party. And what they would be willing to do if ever given that power again. At the end of the day, it was up to the "protesters" to police their own in that situation. And there was a shockingly small number of them that were actually calling it out. And even to this day, there are numerous people that dance around this subject because they're fearful of being labeled something they're not. Only when Everyday People decide to stand up to this type of nonsense, will the power ever be taken away from those who wield it in such a manner.
Not sure I agree there. There is honor in any job that serves human life and dignity. Many experts doing excellent jobs did plenty of damage: Fritz Haber, Donald Ewen Cameron.... It's not enough to do a job well, but to avoid doing jobs that never should be done at all.

Good point. One point of discussion should be how politicians (especially of the Left) and government agencies (DOJ) have created such a climate of fear. There's plenty of talk about the decline of society but no discussion of how this decline is promoted by the powerful.

I work on a laptop all day and I never had anything delivered during lockdowns and I quickly stopped wearing the face diaper and I dang sure didn't get the pokey poke. I'm a retired Federal law enforcement officer, one of my collateral duties, for 19 of my 22 year career, was firearms instructor. Simunition was one of the best breakthrough training aids for LEOs. Using real firearms, loaded with paint rounds, that truly hurt when they hit, completely revolutionized scenario driven training. Every two years, to maintain my certification, I was required to spend two weeks teaching classes at our national academy, usually to basic trainees. Once we had Simunition, we introduced new students to it in a simple way. They donned their bullet resistant vest, helmet, heavy jacket, various hard plastic pieces on arms, legs and groin area, we then placed them 15 feet apart in two rows, and the first officer in row A would draw his .40 caliber, semiauto pistol, loaded with Simunition, and fire 2 rounds center mass at their classmate in row B. It realistically demonstrated 2 critical things, for officer A, it was can you look another human being in the eye and shoot that person, and for officer B it was staring down the barrel of .40 caliber pistol, hearing the discharge, and feeling the impact. About 10 percent of the officers could not pull the trigger or face the firearm. It weeded out those who were not constitutionally capable of performing one of the fundamentals of the job. Eventually, we were told by the higher ups to stop doing this drill with trainee officers. Mainly because it had cost the agencies a lot of money to get a trainee hired, background checks, medical exams, interviews, flying them to the academy etc.. we were then told we coukd only use these drills with advanced officers, and it was optional for them. I was told recently by a friend still working, that tgey aren't allowed to use it anymore. It was an eye opener, the first time I participated in a scenario on a team (it was comprised of all firearms instructors) as we were developing scenarios to use with students, I was shot in the arm. I was wearing a light wind breaker under my vest, it was very hot out, and it hurt like he'll, left quite a bruise, and even tore skin and caused a small bleed. It is a shame that agencies are so afraid to use it now, mainly because if DEI crap that has resulted in weak hiring standards. They are desperately afraid Some effeminate soy boy, or girl boss wanna be who thinks being a federal LEO is like what they see on TV, or they want to be a real life Charlie's Angel (shows how old I am), will sue the agency basically because training was to realistic and demanding.
I'm more concerned with the ones that escalate a situation so they can use force. I've seen videos of LEO high fiving each other because he "popped his cherry" getting to use the tazer. I'm worried about those guys
I had a similar experience as a police defensive tactics instructor. I retired several years ago but just observing officers at work in the community and in hi profile media scenes, it appears that verbal de escalation and effective control and restraint techniques are no longer being taught or at least not very well. Police administrators it seems, are more concerned with liability exposure than officer safety. Its a good illustration of Gavin de Becker's distinction between true fear and false fear, in setting policy to avoid lawsuits they have created greater liability exposure and lower officer safety.
I've asked loud neighbors to turn down the volume and they've gotten aggressive with me, tried to attack me, cuss me and my husband out... so no, at that point the cops are getting involved. The USA needs to have manners, civility, common courtesy taught again.
You are not alone..I've lost count of the amount of broken bottles I've picked up from my driveway, trash in my yard (once literally an entire carton of eggs still in the carton ...rest of times were a few loose eggs, all kinds of other garbage. Always up for a fight. The thing that drove them nuts was me ignoring them. Thank god they finally moved.
Instinct and Common Sense! Another thing that came to mind with what is lacking these days: Self-control AND self-discipline. Examples: You come to a full stop at a stop sign because you see a cop - that's self-control. You come to a full stop at a stop sign because it's safer to make sure no kids on bikes, etc. That's self-discipline. Great interview!
Or, act appropriate to the situation. If there are people, then fully stop. If nobody is around, then don't. That is called the wisdom and discretion that befits free people in a free country.

The freedom to act irresponsibly is not a right - it's a choice.

The Gift of Fear completely reshaped the way I think about personal safety. As a woman, no other book I can think of has imbued me with such a sense of control over my own safety. Over the years I have recommended the book (as well as Protecting the Gift) to literally anyone who will listen to me. One of the crucial things you two discuss in this episode is de Becker's explanation of the difference between false fear messengers and real intuition. Such an applicable and important distinction. Thanks for having Gavin de Becker on your podcast, Mike. He is truly an expert on the human condition, and he makes hard topics super interesting - I hang on every word he says/writes! In my long experience, *always trust your intuition and your fear*. If it's not telling you to do something completely ridiculous, what have you got to lose? If you walk into a store and your instinct tells you to get out of there and you go to another store, what have you lost? Nothing. It was my mom who taught me to listen to mine. Rarely, as in I can count on one hand, is it ever wrong. I read The Gift Of Fear 25 years ago when it first came out, it was fantastic, and a wonderful confirmation for me. I dig the picture frames in the background…of this podcast. I raised a son who’s turning 21 soon, too soon. But he is a young man looking for work. School later, I think. I was a way better student getting back into college in my late 20’s…and 30’s. Rather than just dreaming of a career and taking classes to be an Architect. But, I didn’t attend a school that mastered in architecture. So I changed majors to teach. One I noticed the power of Admin over the teachers, and 2 the teachers had to buy all supplies for the year’s curriculum, I didn’t want to be a teacher. Grading papers until 11 pm at home. So I took another job with a picture-frame maker… Covid lockdowns, shop closes, and I’m unemployed. So I started making my own picture-frames. It’s slow going, but I now make things. I love it. I sell them, online. My son gets bored of sanding. There’s a lot of sanding. But he knows, deep down, if he decides to help me make frames, then that will be the thing he ends up doing… He’s not sure if that’s the deck of cards he’s carrying, if that makes sense. Jeez, I’ll write a letter next time 🙏🤣🙌 All that said, I’ll keep my patience with him, and support him in ways that I’m able to.

Very interesting conversation about very interesting points. Two men who reflect upon what they do and what they say. Not easy to find in the internet nowadays. You might want to know that intuition was what saved my life when I lived in the States. It also guided me into the idea that I had to help the police, prosecutors, and state arrest a local psychopat, and convict him. I absolutely agree with Mr. de Becker about intuition, perception, and grasp of the reality around us. Here watching from Brazil. I ´ve already subscribed...
I used to tell my children, "Intuition is God telling you to not do or go there, whatever there is!" Never feel guilty about that. Needless to say, they teach it to their kids.
Good advice on traveling safely on a commercial airplane. Always locate the nearest exit, count the rows, and pre-plan your exit. I didn't hear anything about proper clothing and footwear. Plan for an emergency when getting dressed for travel. No flip flops, slip on's, shorts etc. I see that every day. Finally, as a professional, I certainly do have every passengers safety as my number one priority whenever I'm at the controls. Every pilot I know or fly with has the same priority.

I was an USAF Security Policeman 1966-1970. A few weeks before I was discharged in 1970, a Senior Master Sergeant told me that the fastest growing civilian career field for the next 20 years would be security. I wasn't interested in the career field, but I'm still impressed at how accurate he was.

I graduated College as a promise to my Mother as she was dying of Cancer. Never gave a shit about it, and worked myself through it. But for her it was important, and she was everything to me. I think more kids today need to learn, appreciatte and love a trade. You can make a business of that, assuming you can find anyone that wants to work and learn. Good luck with that in America of all places.

I have been treated very poorly for my decisions not to vaccinate, and now through Covid, and through much pain and suffering and death, people have now come back to me with a different perspective and a kind sentiment towards my decisions. I think the suggestion that passengers be asked to participate in the defense of the plane in the event of an attack is one of the best ideas I've ever heard. People will do almost anything they are asked to do, but are also very unlikely to volunteer to put themselves in harms way. If there is a clearly articulated expectation that people are supposed to help each other, many people (not all, of course) will be much more likely to intervene. People hate to go against the expectations of the group.

Mike Rowe this is amazing. This man teaches what I have lived my whole life doing watching people. Their decision making. Behavior in rare situations. Started reading to find why I made such bad decisions. Wish I had done it earlier in life. Eyes open ears open hearts open. Most people are in judgement mode when they get the first glimpse of someone.
On airplane evaluation during a smoke filled cabin. Yes count rowes. The most breathable is at armrest hight. Thicker smoke rizes, most toxic is on the floor.
Makes sense but after you've not slept most of the night because your neighbor let their dogs bark and then you went to work exhausted and came home and turned on your TV and had your windows open because it was really hot out, and they are blasting their music so loud that you cannot even hear your TV, I did call the cops! Ps. I had put up with 2 1/2 years of them letting their dogs bark at all hours and it came to a head. I think all my neighbors appreciate what I did because their dogs no longer bark from 9:30 PM to 6:30 AM

Up until my recent retirement I have been involved in telecommunications for over 40 years. early on I was completely enthralled with the idea of a world wide high speed network, the ability to produce useful content, teaching content, specialized programming, (with some exceptions) has now devolved into this equivalent of a town meeting with 140 people talking and no one listening. Add to that, the hideous manipulation of the masses by a few people that learned the methodology early on. Then there’s the rules that prevent the dissemination of sound medical advice, whether it’s a good or bad drug, or a good or bad food. No one is to be trusted and don’t you dare give medical advice Les tried or you be sued or tarred and feathered! And don’t get met started on the organizations that have the word “news” in their names when the last time they actually reported news was 1979. I hope the smart and sane people win. I cannot even begin to tell the stories of what my older sister's did to me on the ranch... I still have several scars on my body from the torture they inflicted. (I am 65 now.) We laugh every Holiday we have the chance to spend together about all of the wounds we inflicted on each other. There was no such thing as personnel space or any type shit. If I went in my sisters room and took something, I was gonna pay the price! My favorite is, I was breaking a horse maned Satin.... He bucked for about a minute, then settled down to a slow trot, my sister Kathe decide that was Not Enough... Came out of the grain room waving a grain sack. The rest is history, I was having a good time on this colt, & he just simply erupted into a class A bareback horse! I got hung up, & he drug me around a 2 acre pen twice, hanging under his belly. Have so many scars on my back from that. We still laugh, thought the pain is still there. One day........
Glad you survived without a brain injury or spinal damage. I punched my sister in the face and broke her glasses. Not as dramatic. But I got my butt in trouble.
Pont here Gavin. Some of the aircraft windows won't "easily" fit through the space to allow them to be thrown outside. Also, newer generation aircraft, depending upon manufacturer and model are hinged to open outside once cabin pressure is neutral. The PAX (passenger) should read the instruction card in the seat back in front of them that reveals all...but seldom do. I believe the accident you're discussing was Air Florida on the 14th St. bridge.
Personally know two ladies who are up to 9 jabs under doctors recommendations. They’re older than me, I’m 70, they refuse to hear any of the facts I’ve told them. They’re so convinced that they’re doing the right thing that I’ve given up. All I can do is feel pity. No jabs no Covid for me. Thank you for this interview. What has changed are the consequences of getting involved with others' problems. Self-preservation has intensified, and the cost/benefit of engaging with others does not equal a good risk. "No good deed goes unpunished" is more relevant now than ever. The default is disengagement.
I am really finding every episode of your channel most interesting and informative, Mike - I subscribed today. This gentleman confirmed what my father taught me when I was a kid: "If you feel uncomfortable in an environment to the point where you sense danger, retreat immediately. It's your intuition that is warning you." I know I have saved my own life in situations by heeding to my gut feeling. Someone told me it's called 'discernment' but it's definitely an internal sense protecting us from harm. Thank you for sharing this with us, Mike; take good care my friend.
Fantastic interview! I would love to see a follow up interview especially after the events of the attempted assasination of Donald Trump. I came for the clot-shot discussion (watched the shorter versions too) and was fascinated by the discussion on staying safe, intuition and that gut feeling.

When BLM was headed to Prescott, AZ, all the shopkeepers came out with lawn chairs on the streets with guns - there was no violence or looting.
And shopkeepers in a small NM city sat on the roof of the buildings with their guns post BLM protesting and damage of public property. Now,,,,,, I also believe that in some cases there are trouble makers taking advantage of the situation since attention is on the protests. Lots of gray areas exist too.

I found it fascinating how Democrats would sit around and glare at each other, knowing that they have an army of useful idiots/enforcers at their disposal, to not only chant and recite the mantras, but to simultaneously strike fear in the heart of non-believers!
And the fact that it was not only allowed to happen, but it was praised on the left tells you everything you need to know about those people, and that particular party. And what they would be willing to do if ever given that power again.
At the end of the day, it was up to the "protesters" to police their own in that situation. And there was a shockingly small number of them that were actually calling it out. And even to this day, there are numerous people that dance around this subject because they're fearful of being labeled something they're not.
Only when Everyday People decide to stand up to this type of nonsense, will the power ever be taken away from those who wield it in such a manner.

I'm a retired Federal law enforcement officer, one of my collateral duties, for 19 of my 22 year career, was firearms instructor.
Simunition was one of the best breakthrough training aids for LEOs. Using real firearms, loaded with paint rounds, that truly hurt when they hit, completely revolutionized scenario driven training.
Every two years, to maintain my certification, I was required to spend two weeks teaching classes at our national academy, usually to basic trainees.
Once we had Simunition, we introduced new students to it in a simple way. They donned their bullet resistant vest, helmet, heavy jacket, various hard plastic pieces on arms, legs and groin area, we then placed them 15 feet apart in two rows, and the first officer in row A would draw his .40 caliber, semiauto pistol, loaded with Simunition, and fire 2 rounds center mass at their classmate in row B. It realistically demonstrated 2 critical things, for officer A, it was can you look another human being in the eye and shoot that person, and for officer B it was staring down the barrel of .40 caliber pistol, hearing the discharge, and feeling the impact. About 10 percent of the officers could not pull the trigger or face the firearm. It weeded out those who were not constitutionally capable of performing one of the fundamentals of the job.
Eventually, we were told by the higher ups to stop doing this drill with trainee officers. Mainly because it had cost the agencies a lot of money to get a trainee hired, background checks, medical exams, interviews, flying them to the academy etc.. we were then told we coukd only use these drills with advanced officers, and it was optional for them.
I was told recently by a friend still working, that tgey aren't allowed to use it anymore.
It was an eye opener, the first time I participated in a scenario on a team (it was comprised of all firearms instructors) as we were developing scenarios to use with students, I was shot in the arm. I was wearing a light wind breaker under my vest, it was very hot out, and it hurt like he'll, left quite a bruise, and even tore skin and caused a small bleed.
It is a shame that agencies are so afraid to use it now, mainly because if DEI crap that has resulted in weak hiring standards. They are desperately afraid Some effeminate soy boy, or girl boss wanna be who thinks being a federal LEO is like what they see on TV, or they want to be a real life Charlie's Angel (shows how old I am), will sue the agency basically because training was to realistic and demanding.
I'm more concerned with the ones that escalate a situation so they can use force. I've seen videos of LEO high fiving each other because he "popped his cherry" getting to use the tazer. I'm worried about those guys

I had a similar experience as a police defensive tactics instructor. I retired several years ago but just observing officers at work in the community and in hi profile media scenes, it appears that verbal de escalation and effective control and restraint techniques are no longer being taught or at least not very well. Police administrators it seems, are more concerned with liability exposure than officer safety. Its a good illustration of Gavin de Becker's distinction between true fear and false fear, in setting policy to avoid lawsuits they have created greater liability exposure and lower officer safety.

Instinct and Common Sense! Another thing that came to mind with what is lacking these days: Self-control AND self-discipline. Examples: You come to a full stop at a stop sign because you see a cop - that's self-control. You come to a full stop at a stop sign because it's safer to make sure no kids on bikes, etc. That's self-discipline. Great interview!
Or, act appropriate to the situation. If there are people, then fully stop. If nobody is around, then don't. That is called the wisdom and discretion that befits free people in a free country.

One of the crucial things you two discuss in this episode is de Becker's explanation of the difference between false fear messengers and real intuition. Such an applicable and important distinction. Thanks for having Gavin de Becker on your podcast, Mike. He is truly an expert on the human condition, and he makes hard topics super interesting - I hang on every word he says/writes! I read that book when I was in my early 20's and recommended it to all my female friends; still do.
In my long experience, *always trust your intuition and your fear*. If it's not telling you to do something completely ridiculous, what have you got to lose? If you walk into a store and your instinct tells you to get out of there and you go to another store, what have you lost? Nothing. It was my mom who taught me to listen to mine. Rarely, as in I can count on one hand, is it ever wrong.

I raised a son who’s turning 21 soon, too soon.
But he is a young man looking for work. School later, I think.
I was a way better student getting back into college in my late 20’s…and 30’s. Rather than just dreaming of a career and taking classes to be an Architect.
But, I didn’t attend a school that mastered in architecture.
So I changed majors to teach.
One I noticed the power of Admin over the teachers, and 2 the teachers had to buy all supplies for the year’s curriculum, I didn’t want to be a teacher. Grading papers until 11 pm at home.
So I took another job with a picture-frame maker…
Covid lockdowns, shop closes, and I’m unemployed.
So I started making my own picture-frames.
It’s slow going, but I now make things. I love it. I sell them, online.
My son gets bored of sanding. There’s a lot of sanding.
But he knows, deep down, if he decides to help me make frames, then that will be the thing he ends up doing…
He’s not sure if that’s the deck of cards he’s carrying, if that makes sense.
Jeez, I’ll write a letter next time 🙏🤣🙌
All that said, I’ll keep my patience with him, and support him in ways that I’m able to.

Very interesting conversation about very interesting points. Two men who reflect upon what they do and what they say. Not easy to find in the internet nowadays. You might want to know that intuition was what saved my life when I lived in the States. It also guided me into the idea that I had to help the police, prosecutors, and state arrest a local psychopat, and convict him. I absolutely agree with Mr. de Becker about intuition, perception, and grasp of the reality around us. Here watching from Brazil. I ´ve already subscribed...
I used to tell my children, "Intuition is God telling you to not do or go there, whatever there is!" Never feel guilty about that. Needless to say, they teach it to their kids.
Good advice on traveling safely on a commercial airplane. Always locate the nearest exit, count the rows, and pre-plan your exit. I didn't hear anything about proper clothing and footwear. Plan for an emergency when getting dressed for travel. No flip flops, slip on's, shorts etc. I see that every day. Finally, as a professional, I certainly do have every passengers safety as my number one priority whenever I'm at the controls. Every pilot I know or fly with has the same priority.

I graduated College as a promise to my Mother as she was dying of Cancer. Never gave a shit about it, and worked myself through it. But for her it was important, and she was everything to me. I think more kids today need to learn, appreciatte and love a trade. You can make a business of that, assuming you can find anyone that wants to work and learn. Good luck with that in America of all places.

This was such a powerful interview. I have been treated very poorly for my decisions not to vaccinate, and now through Covid, and through much pain and suffering and death, people have now come back to me with a different perspective and a kind sentiment towards my decisions. And I’m not sure if it angers me more than it saddens me.
Gentleman, thank you. I've listened to Ed Dowd on Greg Hunter's website and appreciate the hard numbers he brings to the plate. I also appreciate how Gavin's personality rolls in with Ed's. Truth, integrity and fortitude have a way of doing that.
I think the suggestion that passengers be asked to participate in the defense of the plane in the event of an attack is one of the best ideas I've ever heard. People will do almost anything they are asked to do, but are also very unlikely to volunteer to put themselves in harms way. If there is a clearly articulated expectation that people are supposed to help each other, many people (not all, of course) will be much more likely to intervene. People hate to go against the expectations of the group.

On airplane evaluation during a smoke filled cabin. Yes count rowes. The most breathable is at armrest hight. Thicker smoke rizes, most toxic is on the floor.
Makes sense but after you've not slept most of the night because your neighbor let their dogs bark and then you went to work exhausted and came home and turned on your TV and had your windows open because it was really hot out, and they are blasting their music so loud that you cannot even hear your TV, I did call the cops! Ps. I had put up with 2 1/2 years of them letting their dogs bark at all hours and it came to a head. I think all my neighbors appreciate what I did because their dogs no longer bark from 9:30 PM to 6:30 AM
I took our son to an after school Manners Class and it really paid off. He has grown up to be very kind, polite and chivalrous.

"Unpack" has been extremely overused in the last twenty years. Another of more recent vintage which annoys me to no end is "vanishingly small."
Up until my recent retirement I have been involved in telecommunications for over 40 years. early on I was completely enthralled with the idea of a world wide high speed network, the ability to produce useful content, teaching content, specialized programming, (with some exceptions) has now devolved into this equivalent of a town meeting with 140 people talking and no one listening. Add to that, the hideous manipulation of the masses by a few people that learned the methodology early on. Then there’s the rules that prevent the dissemination of sound medical advice, whether it’s a good or bad drug, or a good or bad food. No one is to be trusted and don’t you dare give medical advice Les tried or you be sued or tarred and feathered!
And don’t get met started on the organizations that have the word “news” in their names when the last time they actually reported news was 1979.

Yeah, I worked in the news business years ago, right out of college, and can certify that almost nothing going on under the banner of MSM has anything to do with journalism. Rather, it's anti-journalism. It's state captured propaganda.
We could have that noble ideal of the internet, but it will take radical decentralizing of ownership and control of the infrastructure and major platforms.
Just think of an internet where we all own a piece of everything ( as we should, since they're all making money off either billing us for service or selling our data) from ISP up, and our default portal of entry isn't run by Big Tech but a local or micro local site.
We also have to take back our broadcast spectrum btw... while everyone worries about what happens with the internet, basically a couple of corporations have bought the entire terrestrial radio industry -- the entire am/fm dial nationwide.
Call-in talk radio was the internet before the internet.

After reading it, I bought several copies when it first came out, and gave them to my friends who needed it. (Constantly choosing Bad abusive boyfriends, creepy bosses, thugs hanging around their apartments...) Glad I personally have inherent senses to rational fear...although noticed not many people do - was delighted to give out your book 7 times!

I cannot even begin to tell the stories of what my older sister's did to me on the ranch... I still have several scars on my body from the torture they inflicted. (I am 65 now.) We laugh every Holiday we have the chance to spend together about all of the wounds we inflicted on each other. There was no such thing as personnel space or any type shit. If I went in my sisters room and took something, I was gonna pay the price! My favorite is, I was breaking a horse maned Satin.... He bucked for about a minute, then settled down to a slow trot, my sister Kathe decide that was Not Enough... Came out of the grain room waving a grain sack. The rest is history, I was having a good time on this colt, & he just simply erupted into a class A bareback horse!
I got hung up, & he drug me around a 2 acre pen twice, hanging under his belly. Have so many scars on my back from that. We still laugh, thought the pain is still there. One day........

Pont here Gavin. Some of the aircraft windows won't "easily" fit through the space to allow them to be thrown outside. Also, newer generation aircraft, depending upon manufacturer and model are hinged to open outside once cabin pressure is neutral. The PAX (passenger) should read the instruction card in the seat back in front of them that reveals all...but seldom do. I believe the accident you're discussing was Air Florida on the 14th St. bridge.
Personally know two ladies who are up to 9 jabs under doctors recommendations. They’re older than me, I’m 70, they refuse to hear any of the facts I’ve told them. They’re so convinced that they’re doing the right thing that I’ve given up. All I can do is feel pity. No jabs no Covid for me.

What has changed are the consequences of getting involved with others' problems. Self-preservation has intensified, and the cost/benefit of engaging with others does not equal a good risk. "No good deed goes unpunished" is more relevant now than ever. The default is disengagement.
I am really finding every episode of your channel most interesting and informative, Mike - I subscribed today. This gentleman confirmed what my father taught me when I was a kid: "If you feel uncomfortable in an environment to the point where you sense danger, retreat immediately. It's your intuition that is warning you." I know I have saved my own life in situations by heeding to my gut feeling. Someone told me it's called 'discernment' but it's definitely an internal sense protecting us from harm. Thank you for sharing this with us, Mike; take good care my friend.
