First Time One Piece Fibreglass Mother Mold | Problems & Obstacles

- Caution: Always use your tools and power tools safely. Always wear a quality respirator while using toxic chemicals such as the fibreglass resin materials used in this video, plus a protective mask while cutting the resin when it is cured.
This video shows the process of making a fibreglass mother mold for the first time and the potential problems and obstacles which we may face taking that first step into fibreglass molding.
Over the course of time, videos featuring fibreglassing will be added to the channel with the acquired knowledge and experience to work with the materials.

Very good Drama!!!! I am interested in doing the multi-piece latex mold as well. Have yet to try one... Hopefully your video will come out before I do. :)
I have a few models which will require seams in latex molds. Will be trying out a multi-part fibreglass mother mold shortly. :)

7:02 Using MEKP? The more hardener you add, the faster the glass sets. WARNING: Don't over add. The resin can get so hot it catches fire.
Yes, sure! :) It says on the tin to use between 1% and 2%. I used 1% for the slowest curing. It was still pretty fast and 100g of resin was enough for me to work in the timescale. With a bit of practice, I might get faster! :D Btw, you should sign up to www.diymolds.com . I think you will like it there and there are lots of others talking concrete and molding! :)
Thanks for the invite, but I can't go there. They have my IP banned. That's the reason why I started up my own forum. (Although, I have to admit, it would be nice to talk to some one other than spam bots.) So, to keep busy when I'm not cleaning my forum, I also mod over on "my sculptures gallery" .
I was also going to mention... I can't see your face so I don't know if you're wearing a mask, but I did note you're using gloves - which BTW, is very good when handling this stuff. MEKP is one of the more dangerous chemicals used in the hobby. (Can cause liver damage.) The product can be absorbed through skin contact. As well, the fumes are dangerous, So make sure to always work in a well ventilated area and wear your protection.
Hi, can I ask how do you get rid of any leftover resin? I assume that it's not okay to pour down the sink? Would it be best to use a plastic cup or something to mix the resin and then throw the cup with any left over resin in the bin afterwards? Thanks
Oh goodness! Definitely do not pour the resin down the sink! I save my leftover resin once it has set in view to use as some kind of aggregate or filler. If you dispose of the resin, do it in a safe and environmentally friendly way. It's pretty toxic stuff! Once the resin has cured, you can just pull away any excess from your cup, vessel, etc.

I got myself a new respirator too - a proper one. This stuff really stinks and the fumes are really toxic while working with it. :)
Instead of a steel bowl, you might want to consider using a disposable paper or plastic tray/cup.
I have just received a metal paint tray through the post today which should save a lot of aggravation! :D
