I'm 63 year old bloke in the UK who surfed a bit in the 1980's. I can relate to so much of this. This is such a great show.

Great podcast. If you think the driving sucks in Indo then you haven't been to China. Visualize a five lane highway going one way and the car in the far left lane realizing they missed their exit, so they stop, put the car in the reverse and backup on the highway until they make their turn off. I've been all over the world and can honestly say that the drivers in China are some of the worst drivers anywhere. That said there has to be a lot of surf breaks that are undiscovered and unridden in Southern China. The good news is if you hurt yourself in China you can go to a modern hospital and buy a ticket for less than 50 cents to see a doctor. If you need to see a specialist to set a broken bone it might cost you $10. The downside is most doctors don't speak English, but you can get patched up good enough to get you back home.
I wish the WSL would hold events at better spots. The waves are too small at Trestles.

Fyi, they measure the big waves using shin bones. They figure out the length of the rider shin bone and multiply it to “measure” the wave. Saw a short doc a few years back on it. Its some mathematician/ scientist who does the measuring.
Surfing is sooooo subjective. Kinda like figure skating, Gymnastics etc. But BIG WAVES. No way. LarGE & CHARGE!!! Easily measured with laser equipment. BRING BACK THE BIG WAVE TOUR!!!

What a sad world that people are worried about being cancelled. First Amendment, you should be able to say what you want. People need to grow a thicker skin. If you are offended, TOUGH CRAP!! Get a Helmet and move on. I think the beer video needs to be live. Say what you believe. Also, I agree, the Big Wave tour would be great. It's more fun for spectators.

You guys know the new wsl format sucks lol. I don't even follow the tour anymore with the stupid final 5 bs. Felipe is great but anyone who has no chance at proper pipe or chopes or even an invite to the Eddie is not a legit "world champ".
The best comps are the Eddie and the Da Hui Shootout. I'll watch those over the WSL.
The indo guy that snapped on Eli probably knew that youre not supposed to move people in that situation, you always wait for medical personnel to handle it because you move somebody with a neck injury and you can paralyze them! Only reason you should ever move somebody is if theres a serious risk like a car on fire or if their body is in a bad spot on the road like a blind curve where they could easily be hit and even then you should try to find a way to maybe get on the other side and stop cars instead of moving them

WSL finals format is better now. 2 major criticisms,; there should be a trophy for the ladder leaders going in to the final and then the championship trophy going to the winner on the finals day. Acknowledgement of both consistency throughout the year as well as acknowledgement for best on the day. The best surfers will win both crowns. GET RID OF TRESTLES AS THE FINALS VENUE, it is lame!!!. Pipe for finals is the ideal.

Do you sometimes have doubts, about all the flying you gotta do to chase those swells, in relation to your carbon footprints. I know what yall are talking about. I have a solution! Every CT event should be 8 to 12 foot, like John some guys cant do the same surfing on big waves as head high waves.
Ive ridden street bikes for five years since the age of 16. Ive ridden 1000cc sport bikes. I refuse to ride a moped. They are death traps the small diameter tires dont generate much centripetal force the brakes are undersized the center of gravity because of the riding position is too high. Save yourselves

Indonesia is the wild west for driving. The closest thing I can compare to riding a moped there is riding a bike in NYC. Literally no rules. Traffic backed up? Hope on the sidewalk or in the other lane. The time I was there the moped I was on the brakes went out with my wife riding on the back coming down from the highest temple on Bali, thankfully on a long straight. The ride of my life haha
