Clearly Joe knows f' all about surfing' otherwise he could have used this opportunity to tell his subscribers about who Kelly Slater actually is, what he has achieved, where he sits in comparison to the greatest athletes of all time, and the fact that he could possibly still win world titles late into his 40's and even 50's at this rate.. Kelly Slater is one of the most dominant athletes in his given sport over a 28 year + period.. he is still at the highest elite level and still capable of coming back next year to win a world title (which would be 12 world titles - many of the years he didn't win he placed 2nd or 3rd).. Professional surfing is dominated by 18-25 year olds, Kelly is 46 and still schooling the best the world can throw at him.. Those dissing him are fools..

I met Kelly Slater awhile back at a 4 Band Punk Rock Concert at The Abyss in Virginia Beach, VA. Incredibly humble, thoughtful and just all around nice friendly guy. It’s nice to see that he’s still the same exact dude I met that night. Furthermore, it was really nice to here his last words to Joe asking and talking about Joe’s feelings encompassing this podcast venture. This may be one of my favorite JRE’s yet. Love you guys.....

Being a Florida boy and surfing Cocoa my whole life, I've always looked up to Kelly, got his game for my birthday when i was 11, read his book Pipe dream when i was 16, im 25 today and still look up to him, such an amazing guy
I met him once in Florida randomly and he was the nicest person. He was super stoked to talk with us and take pictures. Couldn't have been more humble of a dude

The guy’s 46, 11 time world champion, all natural - no PED’s. He’s more accomplished in his sport than Tiger Woods was in golfing, or Lance Armstrong was in cycling. That’s a really big deal.

I will always remember when Kelly was going to loose pipe masters, in 1995 to rob mechado . Kelly gave rob an arms raised high during a perfect catch basically saying “ you did it!” Rob sees , so turns in and gives Kelly a high five. Kelly then proceeds to paddle out and get a winning wave. Rob would have actually been able to take priority on the next wave if he didn’t get mentally tricked by the best competitor in the world. Sad day for me . I was 10 and rooting for rob , who was and still is my favorite. Kelly has grown on me over the years though .
The croc that Kelly fed at Australia Zoo with Steve Irwin is actually a bit bigger. He's just over 15 feet and weighs over 600kg (1350lbs). Source; I worked there for nearly 10 years.

I don't remember the exact episode but I think it was the one John Joseph or was it John Dudley? All I remember the guest brought up this crazy guy that does a bunch of extreme sports and has broken almost all of his bones and the video was of Travis and that's where Joe mentions that he's tried to get him on the podcast.
Younger version? They're like 6 years apart and it's arguable one's "accomplished more" than the other. Two people whom BOTH have individual compelling stories yet are very different.
Cocoa Beach in the House!! As someone from Cocoa Beach and surfed along Kelly at Desperados restaurant...right along 4th street south in CB. I was a few years older and surfed in ESA. Kelly was like 14 and even then people knew he was special. His brother Sean ripped along with his friend's Todd Holland and Bret Gardner. He is the greatest of all time. Having lived the last 16 years in Hawaii, I really appreciate what he has done for the sport and for surfers from Florida!
I live in Melbourne FL, my old coach Early Harris was his classmate and used 2 tell me alot of stories about Kelly, he actually taught my coach how to surf

Kelly Slater is one of my favorite non regular guest that Joe has had on. I remember being a little kid playing Kelly Slaters Pro surfer on playstation. I do gotta admit Joe has the 3 of the coolest jobs you can have in my opinion, hes a stand up comedian, a UFC commentator (I'm a huge MMA fan) and he has one of the most successful podcasts and he gets to sit down and talk to a variety of bad ass people. From mma fighters to scientists and all the between, its gotta be dope aff. The average person would do some crazy shit to spend 5 min with alot of his guests and he gets to sit and chill and talk to these people for hours at a time.

First time I met Kelly was at Mike tabeling's ex wife's house. I was hanging out with Mike's son, and I was in middle school. Kelly is a family friend (this is in Florida's space coast, just south of cocoa Beach. My friend said "Kelly slater is coming over to say hi and borrow an onion." I was like cool, who's Kelly slater? Then my friend handed me a magazine with Kelly standing tall in a huge barrel at pipeline with something like 8x world champion written on it. He was really nice obviously. Didn't hit me until I started surfing a couple years later. Met him while surfing in Sebastián Inlet years later. Dude is just one in billions. The real life aquaman

I had a gnarly eye accident in Newport in 2007/08.. board came up at the bouyancy threw it up to my eye, eye came to show bleeding like crazy, wanting to go to sleep, feeling I lot my eye. Thank god a fellow surfer helped me to his friends house right on the sand (those who know newps know what I'm saying). And the guy took me to hoag hospital and they had to stitch my eyelid back together, if it wasn't for our close surf community, I could've lost my eye.I have tried to thank him but he no longer lives there.
Antonio Cromartie exactly haha. The eye specialist was leaving town that day, he turned around to come and stitch my lid back together. Mild concussion, now that eye is always dilated, and it looks like one side of my face is a bit droopy. Happened about 10 years ago, I'm 29 now, still surfing!

Being a Florida boy and surfing Cocoa my whole life, I've always looked up to Kelly, got his game for my birthday when i was 11, read his book Pipe dream when i was 16, im 25 today and still look up to him, such an amazing guy

I will always remember when Kelly was going to loose pipe masters, in 1995 to rob mechado .
Kelly gave rob an arms raised high during a perfect catch basically saying “ you did it!”
Rob sees , so turns in and gives Kelly a high five. Kelly then proceeds to paddle out and get a winning wave. Rob would have actually been able to take priority on the next wave if he didn’t get mentally tricked by the best competitor in the world. Sad day for me . I was 10 and rooting for rob , who was and still is my favorite.

I don't remember the exact episode but I think it was the one John Joseph or was it John Dudley? All I remember the guest brought up this crazy guy that does a bunch of extreme sports and has broken almost all of his bones and the video was of Travis and that's where Joe mentions that he's tried to get him on the podcast.

Cocoa Beach in the House!! As someone from Cocoa Beach and surfed along Kelly at Desperados restaurant...right along 4th street south in CB. I was a few years older and surfed in ESA. Kelly was like 14 and even then people knew he was special. His brother Sean ripped along with his friend's Todd Holland and Bret Gardner. He is the greatest of all time. Having lived the last 16 years in Hawaii, I really appreciate what he has done for the sport and for surfers from Florida!
I live in Melbourne FL, my old coach Early Harris was his classmate and used 2 tell me alot of stories about Kelly, he actually taught my coach how to surf

Kelly Slater is one of my favorite non regular guest that Joe has had on. I remember being a little kid playing Kelly Slaters Pro surfer on playstation. I do gotta admit Joe has the 3 of the coolest jobs you can have in my opinion, hes a stand up comedian, a UFC commentator (I'm a huge MMA fan) and he has one of the most successful podcasts and he gets to sit down and talk to a variety of bad ass people. From mma fighters to scientists and all the between, its gotta be dope aff. The average person would do some crazy shit to spend 5 min with alot of his guests and he gets to sit and chill and talk to these people for hours at a time.

First time I met Kelly was at Mike tabeling's ex wife's house. I was hanging out with Mike's son, and I was in middle school. Kelly is a family friend (this is in Florida's space coast, just south of cocoa Beach. My friend said "Kelly slater is coming over to say hi and borrow an onion." I was like cool, who's Kelly slater? Then my friend handed me a magazine with Kelly standing tall in a huge barrel at pipeline with something like 8x world champion written on it. He was really nice obviously. Didn't hit me until I started surfing a couple years later. Met him while surfing in Sebastián Inlet years later. Dude is just one in billions. The real life aquaman

I had a gnarly eye accident in Newport in 2007/08.. board came up at the bouyancy threw it up to my eye, eye came to show bleeding like crazy, wanting to go to sleep, feeling I lot my eye. Thank god a fellow surfer helped me to his friends house right on the sand (those who know newps know what I'm saying). And the guy took me to hoag hospital and they had to stitch my eyelid back together, if it wasn't for our close surf community, I could've lost my eye.I have tried to thank him but he no longer lives there.

Antonio Cromartie exactly haha. The eye specialist was leaving town that day, he turned around to come and stitch my lid back together. Mild concussion, now that eye is always dilated, and it looks like one side of my face is a bit droopy. Happened about 10 years ago, I'm 29 now, still surfing!
