The Tennessee River is the largest tributary of the Ohio River. It is approximately 652 miles (1,049 km) long and is located in the southeastern United States in the Tennessee Valley. The river was once popularly known as the Cherokee River, among other names, as many of the Cherokee had their territory along its banks, especially in eastern Tennessee and northern Alabama.[2] Its current name is derived from the Cherokee village Tanasi.[5] - Спорт
That is one heck of a day of fishing! This is probably my favorite G3 video, at least in the top 5!

I fish out there but I've never fished for big catfish. Awesome video!
In East Texas I have only observed 1 flathed eat cut bait. Nice catches
I got lucky and landed a 60lb flathead catfish out of the Ohio River, from the riverbank. It was absolutely massive !!!

Awsome video guys 👍
makes me wish I was fishing right now, 5 pounders up to 60 pounders, those are the best eating size
great fish
Great video, I love those poles, I wish I could afford to replace the two Abu 6500c's and the Ugly sticks I had them on. They were stolen when I was having back surgery.
Thats a bummer. I hate thieves
Damn that looks fun and it also made me really hungry. Let me get my new job in order 'Mike' and my sons and I will be giving you a call.
He’s the best. You’ll enjoy the trip.
Excellent video!!! Thank you Mike for all the tips, and for getting on some biguns! Also a big thanks to the G3 crew for doing a flathead show, and for
great footage!
We were on lake Wheeler last year at the end of March and got into a lot of 30 plus lb flathead and two 40 plus lbers. Caught them from the bank. Hoping to go again this spring.
Love this can you do blues and channels next two videos
Good fish. Here on the Ohio you have to use heavier reels to accommodate for the flow of the river. Using a 6 ounce sinker with a 6500 will wear the gears out fast. Man the Tennessee river looks great. Good job
Did you keep any for eating ? I understand as you are always fishing, you cant keep and eat everything you catch. Flathead are one of the all time great tasting fish, with Crappie being the best. A 5lb to 8lb Flathead is hard to beat in the taste department! I live less than a mile from Wilson Lake on the Tennessee River. I was raised in Muscle Shoals Alabama.
i
love
catfishing
Enjoyed the show, hope you kept at least one to eat!
Wow those is some fish course the bait they're using is about the size I normally catch on a rod
Nice video
That what you call a tank happy fishing.
Love those ugly stik catfish rods!!!! 7ft & 8 1/2 ft medium action
I caught one here in northern alabama at the Brahun springs park it was a 35lb flat head that was a the fight of my life!! I want to catch one like that again someday. Fought that sucker for a good 40 minutes on rod and reel and was using chicken liver for bait.
That's what it's all about. I could tell by reading your. Moment that was an exciting moment for you. Catching a big fish is a thrill. It never gets old. Hopefully you'll catch an even bigger one and you'll let me know. Good luck and thanks for watching
no problem I like your channel a lot :) . I havnt been able to catch another one yet but I hope to one day and i sure as heck will be able to show you! I think my dad still has those photos if I can get one ill take a picture and send it to you !
Be Alot Of Fun There Now!!! I ♥️🎣🎣🎣🎣🎣 For Bass Here In Dundee Florida. Got Some WHIPPERS IN LAKE TRASK!!
WHOPPERS
get em Mike
I caught one that size good fights
Ugly Stik is the most underrated rod on the market...Don’t spend hundreds of dollars when you can pick up one of these bad boys for less than 50 bucks and handle pretty much anything in the river. Bang for your buck!
Agreed. Been saying that for years
Dam this river is loaded with cats...wish Wisconsin river has these bad boys at this size...
Woww amazing very big fish 🥰😍👍👍👍
Why do you need Mike Mitchell???? Those fish all over the river!!!!
Ugly stick catfish rods are perfect for guides too. Cheap but effective
I fish the Tennessee river a lot growing I love Pickwick Dam and the Tennessee River
Couldn't agree more!!
Prehistoric tadpole. Hahaha
Mike, which snell knot do you use?
Looked like another bite at about 8:35 in the vid on a rod in the back
I have that same rod but it has a boss hawg reel on it
I caught a 54 pound catfish in Ripley Ohio
Just bought me an Ugly Stik catfish rod today. Gonna put my Daiwa Sealine -X40 HV on it. Should be a good rig. Probably get two more. One for my Penn 209 and one for my Abu 6500. Shoot. Sounds good to me. What say you?
what rods you use
I bet there are some big flat heads where you caught the bait...did you ever try a live skip jack ?
Anyone else notice this guy didn’t put any adds in his 20 minute video?
Is that good or bad?
Nice flathead
Where did you get that landing net?
that's such a huge flq tr head
how much would a guide service be for me and one buddy, this is something I've always wanted to do?
You'll have to contact Mike Mitchell for that info
www.tnriveroutfitters.net
I am not sure if there are skipjack shad where I live. I live in the Milwaukee Wisconsin area but I make frequent trips the the Mississippi River for big flatheads, more specifically Lacrosse Wisconsin. Besides bluegills, what is the best flathead bait that I can catch in this region.
I need some serious assistance. My biggest and only flathead is a "massive" 0.5 pounder...... and i caught it while fishing for bluegills to use as bait
Aaron Dobbs try using cut bluegill as bait cast deep pools near log jams
I caught a 54 pound catfish out of the Ohio river in Ripley Ohio
cant reel a fish in without my hat on hahah that was funny
Threw my balance off without my cap!
What's the spoon called he was using for the skip jack
Any kind of flashy spoon will work on skipjack. Try a Johnson silver minnow
G3 Sportsman what color?
Anything shiny or with flash. Chrome is as good as any
Foley Spoon
He was using a Kastmaster. It looked like either a 1/8 oz. or a 1/4 oz.
What hogs , great job, from New Mexico
Yes they were. Thanks for watching
fa talon New Mexico gang
I usually catch flatheads that are more yellow
Water conditions and bottom type have a lot of affect on coloring.
U right that yellow color seems to be in shallow water, 6 to 12 foot of water the Flathead do seem to have that yellow look. At least that's the way it is here in South Carolina.
from south Texas I was raised to call them yellow cats
East Texas we call the Appaloosa or just apps
Tabby Cats in MS!!!
do you guys keep something like that
No. We never keep the large fish. There are plenty of smaller fish that I prefer to eat. I like letting the big ones go in the chance someone else could enjoy catching her like I did. Plus I don't think the big ones taste near as well as smaller ones. Thanks for the question and thanks for watching
Its all about skipjack, if there are big bait there there will be big fish .
Does he still guide? I was trying to find him.
Try Southern Cats Guide Service on Facebook
Once they get that big do they taste okay? Never had a huge one like that
I guess you can but I don't eat the big ones. The smaller ones are better tasting. I just let the big ones go. Figure they earned it
Flatheads are one fish that you can eat the big ones with no problems. Cut it into the size filets you normally eat. Cut out the darker meat around the spine, and the fatter meat around the belly. That being said I too release almost all of the ones over twenty pounds...because they have earned it, and if they're females will literally lay THOUSANDS of eggs each spawn.
What kind of rods and reels are those
Ugly Stik 8' Catfish Series rods. The reels are Abu Garcia 6500C
do you ever catch blue catfish while fishing for flathead catfish?
Yes it happens. Blues are opportunists. If they're swimming by and a free meal stares them in the face, they will seize the moment. Always fun catching blues
Trophy catfish
What's eating size?
I prefer the smaller ones. 6-10 lbs
Yens make it look to easy
this was 2 years ago.
That was a jiant.. My brother caught one that weigh 104
Wow. Congrats to your brother. That’s huge!!!
Best tasting catfish but I wouldn't want them over 20lbs.
Dont ever grab em by the top lip... grab the bottom or they can chomp down pretty hard 🤣
And here I thought after 10 lbs they only eat live bait hmmm
Hell I caught a Mountain Bass bigger than that.
😆
Not to insult your intelligence, but did you make sure to allow the fish to decompress? Just seemed like yall were reeling them in relatively quickly...
We were in water less than 12 feet deep. We may have started a fast retrieve in order to get them out of the rocks. They are all in great shape and released
Nice seeing those uglystik catfish rods..
6 27th. 7 yt? y
Eat em...
he need to take his own fish out of the net,
