If we really want to get fancy we could even add a map. Maybe a one-time fee and subscription to get plugged into you customer base for thing that are more armorer level issues and not requiring of you skills on the bench, and giving some folks a better option that shipping it off. Just thoughts while subbing a tasty beverage.
More videos please, honestly the knowledge bombs are a good thing. Especially for us Canadians who generally have to do our maintenance on our own, cause we can't ship them to you.

I full disassembled and diagnosed and fixed the problem I was having, but I definitely (CAREFULLY) popped that pin out with a brass punch to do so. What's the better and proper way of doing it? I'm not planning on full disassembling my pistol again (once was enough) but now I'm super curious. I was DEFINITELY very careful of the safety block there in the frame having watched your video, so the knowledge is clutch. Just looking for more knowledge!
My old boss was an HK armorer and taught me how to disassemble the VP9. Like most HKs, they are not glocks or smith's.. I am semi retired and have worked for several gunsmiths/armorers throughout the years, and have learned a lot. The key is the right tools and patience. I have had my fare share of armorers classes. Glock, S&W MP, Sig P hammer fire series, Sig1911s, AR15/M16, HK/Benelli. After tearing down a VP9 with close to 50k rounds , the pistol was refreshed and went back into the rental gun cabinet for the range. After that, I bought a full sized and the SK. Great pistol. Thanks for a great video.
My work is centered around a few fundamental ideas: first, maintaining durability, reliability, safety, critical engagement values and function of the base pistol. Second, how we can not sacrifice those things while significantly improving the interface between the pistol and the end user to help them apply fundamental trigger control techniques easier, to run the gun faster and more accurately. Period. Out of the box, the VP Series has a decent service grade trigger. But if we are frank that’s a fairly low bar. What we are able to achieve with our aftermarket upgrades significantly and dramatically improves performance and interface which allows the end user, whatever their current level of experience, to achieve dramatically improved results due to that improved user performance interface to make more accurate shots at speed. It’s all cattle and no hat. Performance is rhe goal, and we achieve it.
Welp... I'll admit this was me! I couldn't remove that part and I bagged it up and sent it to you for a LWG trigger install and trigger job. Luckily I chose to stop before I broke something. This was a few years ago but had I seen this video before hand, I wouldn't have attempted the install myself in the first place.
Your time is highly appreciated when you suggest to people that they might need to take a good HK armorers course before they start digging into their pistols. Been an HK shooter since 1985 with the purchase of my first P7M8. I have a host of HK pistols because of that early experience. Have USPc, a couple of VP9/40s and the P30 and P2000SK. Many have several extra slides and barrels. I never go beyond filed stripping because I know better. I leave my work to swapping out sights, having a good sight slider. I’m an RSO at one of my locales’ ranges, but do not amass significant round accumulation. Thanks for the fam course.

I need all the help I can get shooting USPSA Carry Optics and the lighter/cleaner trigger with a shorter reset really makes my life easier (especially shooting doubles). I followed the video you used as an example of what not to do. I'm currently waiting for my VP9 to come back from HK with a replaced frame. Definitely wish there had been a more detailed video of disassembling that portion of the firearm. Spent that last year building an AR with the Brownells walktl through and thought to myself it can't be that much harder but definitely was.

One issue I'm having is swapping the mag release button on the VP9-B. HK's own video from their armorer suggests just using a screwdriver (😑) but I can't get the necessary part to budge and I don't want to damage the frame. Rick, Copy all and thanks for the response. I think I was confused. Around 18:27 you offer to get deeper into comments or deeper into the subject in another video regarding this topic. It sounded like you were offering to make a video specifically regarding the “trigger stop bolt” remove and install to prevent frame damage if there was interest, which there seems to be. However, I understand your comments and fully support an armorers course.
Thanks for the reply. This video was purely to show how people are breaking their frames. I apologize for the confusion, my comment about digging deeper into the trigger stop bolt and how it’s improperly attempted removal could result in breaking frame was not suggesting that I will ever post any instructions on the disassemble/reassemble of the VP Series. I have had others ask me about this in these comments and I have posted a lengthy explanation of why I never will- please scroll through the comments and find it I think you’ll understand. That said, I could talk wayyyy more about the trigger stop bolt, it’s function, how it does become easier to remove the more you do it, but why that’s makes it a part that should be replaced on a maintenance schedule if it’s being removed often as it’s not supposed to come out easy. If it’s been removed by a client a half dozen times and it doesn’t take much effort to remove, then it should be replaced as it could walk itself out under live fire, and it will create a problem. I could drone on and on about this stuff- and I already felt like I was in the video 😂.
I was so close to modifying my VP9 myself. I definitely want my vp9 to be the best that it can be and will be sure to send it in to you guys when I'm ready for the modifications.
I may or may not have been one of those people that accidentally removed that trigger safety stop…but glue has done wonders 😂. I still think about getting the frame replaced but I would like to see a video on how to properly remove that pin so it doesn’t happen again. I learned my lesson already, now I need to learn the proper way.
Send your pistol in to me, and I’ll help you get the frame replaced and make it run like a Lamborghini- or at least replace frame and inspect to assure its overall serviceability throughout the rest of the pistol. I have others asking me to post instructional disassemble/reassemble videos and if you scroll through the comments here you’ll find my long explanation why I won’t. At the very least, call HK USA and tell DJ or Tommy that Rick from LWG sent you, and you need an RMA to send your pistol in due to broken frame. They will send you an RMA and you can ship your whole pistol direct to them if you prefer, rather than going through me- but please at least replace that frame my friend. I had a “gunsmith” install one of your triggers in my VP and am noticing a LOT of wrong things. The trigger stop bolt is sticking out and now I wonder how safe it is. I have only put maybe 10 rounds through it since and now have to find some place to go through it to make me feel 100% sure the frame is even still good. Btw a very informative video. Even while I don’t trust myself to do some of this stuff, I like to know the “mechanics” of it.
This is happening a lot, individuals and local gunsmiths with little to no experience are F’ing VP pistols up, the LWG Triggers, and then often blaming the triggers. I highly recommend that you ship your pistol in to me for inspection service before shooting it again. Thanks for the post!
Hello - great video. I remember getting this pin out is really difficult, also what you said the frame bends outward and it didnt look "too good". I basically ended up cutting an old cc card into pieces and build a support layer around the pin, then put the gun on the table and pushed with a tool from the inside against the pin. Without bending the frame the pin popped out 2mm which was then enough to pull it out. But I m still curious how you get this pin out. So mabybe you can make a video on how to get this out in a safe way. Btw, here in Austria to get H&K spare parts is quite difficult. If you use the gun for competition you basically buy it twice or even three times. H&K germany sells nowadays sells the H&K VP9 MATCH OR action kit - this consists of a different striker, a lighter striker spring, a lighter trigger spring and a lighter sear spring. Luckily for these parts to be replaced it is not neccessary to fight this locking block pin, the trigger and sear spring can be replaced without complete disassembly of the frame. Unfortunately HKparts doesnt ship to Europe - or I m not aware of any reseller around here.
Very informative video, I do not use a screw driver to remove the trigger stop bolt. I have a way to remove it very easily, even on new guns. I have not been to the HK armorers class yet, hope to get to one in the near future to see how they teach to remove it.
I really wanted to send my p30 to you to get it's trigger unshitty...but i just didn't want to spend the money. I went and bought the gray guns (DONT HIT ME!!) parts and put them in by myself. I was extremely and I mean EXTREMELY careful about how I tinkered with it. And it's gone through thousands of rounds and had no problems. But!!!... Seeing the guts of the vp9 looks like a different sort of challenge. But i don't think it needs any improvements because it shoots great out of the box. Never gonna do any tinkering on my vp9. Most likely...
Also, while ‘epidemic’ is a dramatic statement- I’ve personally seen a lot of customer attempted install of the LWG trigger with resulting safety tab breakage -due to improper install. So this video relates in that way. Lots of people are breaking their stuff. The part in this video that is being broken out of frames that I demonstrate in this video, is extremely robustly molded into the frame. It takes force and mishandling to get these frame breakages. It’s very commonly the same with the LWG Triggers breaking. FYI also, I was the design consultant on the LWG Triggers for HKP, but I do not have any involvement in the triggers manufacture, coating, assembly, QA, packaging, sales, or warranty. I do not oversee any of that, and when these Triggers are made to my spec they do not break. So, yes we will have a video diving into this topic. For sure
@@lazywolfguns2471 I have had over 5 break. Two of those triggers you installed. Also, I am a HK trained VP armorer now so the rest I fixed myself, until so many broke I just replaced them back all to their stock triggers.
The stock VP9 trigger isn’t bad. I can make them exceptional, and comparatively to a highly tuned 1911. But this isn’t a promo video for my work- it’s simply to show a way that customers are breaking their frames when trying to disassemble, and I want to help HK fans and my beloved clients who attempt the disassembly (for whatever reason) themselves or take to their LGS.
Really good stuff to know, thank you Rick. Do you have any advice about aftermarket drop in parts for the VP series, including the HKP aluminum slideplate or the HKP aluminum striker channel sleeve? Was just discussing this with some other members on HKPro who were generally somewhat anti, so I'm curious on your view(s).
Excellent video. I’m a Glock and Sig armorer but for every HK pistol someone wants to modify I always tell them DO NOT touch it. Send it to HK factory or reputable third party that knows how to work on it. HK pistols are awesome but very overengineered so the average person cannot work on it.
I am not a "certified gunsmith", I am self-taught, as most of us are, but I have worked on several Berettas, Glocks and most recently M&Ps, but I will not be messing with my (new to me) USED VP9 and VP9SK. I will leave that to the experts.
I was in the process of purchasing a lazy wolf trigger for my vp9, then I read a lot of horror stories about the triggers breaking. Has this been addressed?
I will be making a specific in-depth video about the LWG/HKP Trigger Tab breakages that some folks have experienced very soon. I am aware of the two issues that have caused this: some are manufacturing defects from the machine shop that manufactures the triggers, and some are induced by improper install. I have very recently worked with HKParts machine shop directly to make a few small changes to the trigger safety tab to assure that there is NO possible way these breakages can occur again, whether by improper installation by inexperienced individuals, or by being out of spec by the manufacturer. Overall, the number of tab breakages have been very small (less than a percent of the many thousands sold and running flawlessly now for years). I HIGHLY recommend professional install either way, however that is not an issue anymore. Detailed video and explanation inbound soon. Thanks!
@@JonConley I think the small percentage ‘problem’ has more largely been due to improper install- and frankly folks and LGS unknowingly stressing parts on improper install which then creates a weak point that over time and use breaks. That said, there were ways I could tell that I could assure with a minor design change to the tabs, that I could get around that possibly or the possibility of an intermittent manufacturing/ machining artifact on the tab that I identified, which rarely can result in this issue depending on the specific +/- tolerances of your particular VP Series pistol. As I said, even though these are drop-in triggers, I highly at least recommend professional install and also custom short reset tuning by myself at LWG- and I will assure everything is set up perfectly, safe, durable and serviceable. I will be making a whole YT video about this, and get into the specifics, as soon as possible.
Also, I will be posting a YT video exclusively dedicated to the details of those high end custom LWG VP Series pistols available at Celt Arms, very soon!

I honestly dont think HK lines like the P30 series or VP9's are hard to work on. I converted a P30 into the Todd Green special and have installed the TRS spring kit on my VP9 which honestly sucks because you literally cant feel the reset so i went back to the stock. You do need the special HK tool for the springs though.
so you tell everyone what they cant do with the pistol and what they are going to do wrong if they even attempt to disassemble the gun. The fact that HK makes the process so impossible already is a red flag in itself. I understand that this is how you make a living but the fact you can show us just how dangerous it can be but you aren't even willing to show the proper way to disassemble that part of the gun( literally just the pin) To someone who likes to know the ins and outs of my own pistols i find it kind of ridiculous that it is so hard to find real information on the vp9 series of pistols. They really don't want us doing any maintenance to the gun for free. Even if it comes down to safety. "its not at all safe to do this yourself so please send it in to me and pay such and such an amount to literally just take out the darn pin. I've owned lots of other pistols from berretta's , m&p shields and 2.0 series pistols to 2011 pistols. all of these pistols have tons of information on how to work on them yourself. So lets just take the whole safety issue out of here cuz in reality this is simply an advertisement for the business. Its not so much about safety as it is about advertising the company.
You try to make a convincing argument for how great the VP series is and then you destroy your own point by saying how difficult it is to safely disassemble them. Why would any gun enthusiast want such an overly complex gun that is so fragile? I was thinking about getting the SK model since I saw it was on sale and this video has completely deterred me from doing so. Thanks for warning me.
The VP9 is not fragile. The VP Series is extremely robust, but the ham-handed reefing and prying on parts that occurs when folks don’t understand how to properly disassemble them would break any pistol. Get armorer level training from a certified professional or send it to someone who won’t break your shit because they know what they’re doing. It’s not a hard concept. I explain this clearly in the video, if you pay attention.

At the very least, call HK USA and tell DJ or Tommy that Rick from LWG sent you, and you need an RMA to send your pistol in due to broken frame. They will send you an RMA and you can ship your whole pistol direct to them if you prefer, rather than going through me- but please at least replace that frame my friend. I had a “gunsmith” install one of your triggers in my VP and am noticing a LOT of wrong things. The trigger stop bolt is sticking out and now I wonder how safe it is. I have only put maybe 10 rounds through it since and now have to find some place to go through it to make me feel 100% sure the frame is even still good.
Btw a very informative video. Even while I don’t trust myself to do some of this stuff, I like to know the “mechanics” of it.
This is happening a lot, individuals and local gunsmiths with little to no experience are F’ing VP pistols up, the LWG Triggers, and then often blaming the triggers. I highly recommend that you ship your pistol in to me for inspection service before shooting it again. Thanks for the post!
Hello - great video. I remember getting this pin out is really difficult, also what you said the frame bends outward and it didnt look "too good". I basically ended up cutting an old cc card into pieces and build a support layer around the pin, then put the gun on the table and pushed with a tool from the inside against the pin. Without bending the frame the pin popped out 2mm which was then enough to pull it out.
But I m still curious how you get this pin out. So mabybe you can make a video on how to get this out in a safe way.
Btw, here in Austria to get H&K spare parts is quite difficult. If you use the gun for competition you basically buy it twice or even three times.
H&K germany sells nowadays sells the H&K VP9 MATCH OR action kit - this consists of a different striker, a lighter striker spring, a lighter trigger spring and a lighter sear spring. Luckily for these parts to be replaced it is not neccessary to fight this locking block pin, the trigger and sear spring can be replaced without complete disassembly of the frame.
Unfortunately HKparts doesnt ship to Europe - or I m not aware of any reseller around here.

Very informative video, I do not use a screw driver to remove the trigger stop bolt. I have a way to remove it very easily, even on new guns. I have not been to the HK armorers class yet, hope to get to one in the near future to see how they teach to remove it.

I really wanted to send my p30 to you to get it's trigger unshitty...but i just didn't want to spend the money.
I went and bought the gray guns (DONT HIT ME!!) parts and put them in by myself. I was extremely and I mean EXTREMELY careful about how I tinkered with it. And it's gone through thousands of rounds and had no problems. But!!!... Seeing the guts of the vp9 looks like a different sort of challenge. But i don't think it needs any improvements because it shoots great out of the box.

Also, while ‘epidemic’ is a dramatic statement- I’ve personally seen a lot of customer attempted install of the LWG trigger with resulting safety tab breakage -due to improper install. So this video relates in that way. Lots of people are breaking their stuff.
The part in this video that is being broken out of frames that I demonstrate in this video, is extremely robustly molded into the frame. It takes force and mishandling to get these frame breakages. It’s very commonly the same with the LWG Triggers breaking.
FYI also, I was the design consultant on the LWG Triggers for HKP, but I do not have any involvement in the triggers manufacture, coating, assembly, QA, packaging, sales, or warranty. I do not oversee any of that, and when these Triggers are made to my spec they do not break. So, yes we will have a video diving into this topic. For sure
@@lazywolfguns2471 I have had over 5 break. Two of those triggers you installed. Also, I am a HK trained VP armorer now so the rest I fixed myself, until so many broke I just replaced them back all to their stock triggers.

The stock VP9 trigger isn’t bad. I can make them exceptional, and comparatively to a highly tuned 1911.
But this isn’t a promo video for my work- it’s simply to show a way that customers are breaking their frames when trying to disassemble, and I want to help HK fans and my beloved clients who attempt the disassembly (for whatever reason) themselves or take to their LGS.

Really good stuff to know, thank you Rick. Do you have any advice about aftermarket drop in parts for the VP series, including the HKP aluminum slideplate or the HKP aluminum striker channel sleeve? Was just discussing this with some other members on HKPro who were generally somewhat anti, so I'm curious on your view(s).
Excellent video. I’m a Glock and Sig armorer but for every HK pistol someone wants to modify I always tell them DO NOT touch it. Send it to HK factory or reputable third party that knows how to work on it. HK pistols are awesome but very overengineered so the average person cannot work on it.
I am not a "certified gunsmith", I am self-taught, as most of us are, but I have worked on several Berettas, Glocks and most recently M&Ps, but I will not be messing with my (new to me) USED VP9 and VP9SK. I will leave that to the experts.

I was in the process of purchasing a lazy wolf trigger for my vp9, then I read a lot of horror stories about the triggers breaking. Has this been addressed?
I will be making a specific in-depth video about the LWG/HKP Trigger Tab breakages that some folks have experienced very soon. I am aware of the two issues that have caused this: some are manufacturing defects from the machine shop that manufactures the triggers, and some are induced by improper install.
I have very recently worked with HKParts machine shop directly to make a few small changes to the trigger safety tab to assure that there is NO possible way these breakages can occur again, whether by improper installation by inexperienced individuals, or by being out of spec by the manufacturer.
Overall, the number of tab breakages have been very small (less than a percent of the many thousands sold and running flawlessly now for years).
I HIGHLY recommend professional install either way, however that is not an issue anymore. Detailed video and explanation inbound soon. Thanks!
Have you narrowed down a batch date for the parts affected by the manufacturing issue? I think I had my F3 shoe installed in 2021.
@@JonConley I think the small percentage ‘problem’ has more largely been due to improper install- and frankly folks and LGS unknowingly stressing parts on improper install which then creates a weak point that over time and use breaks.
That said, there were ways I could tell that I could assure with a minor design change to the tabs, that I could get around that possibly or the possibility of an intermittent manufacturing/ machining artifact on the tab that I identified, which rarely can result in this issue depending on the specific +/- tolerances of your particular VP Series pistol.
As I said, even though these are drop-in triggers, I highly at least recommend professional install and also custom short reset tuning by myself at LWG- and I will assure everything is set up perfectly, safe, durable and serviceable. I will be making a whole YT video about this, and get into the specifics, as soon as possible.

I honestly dont think HK lines like the P30 series or VP9's are hard to work on. I converted a P30 into the Todd Green special and have installed the TRS spring kit on my VP9 which honestly sucks because you literally cant feel the reset so i went back to the stock. You do need the special HK tool for the springs though.

so you tell everyone what they cant do with the pistol and what they are going to do wrong if they even attempt to disassemble the gun. The fact that HK makes the process so impossible already is a red flag in itself. I understand that this is how you make a living but the fact you can show us just how dangerous it can be but you aren't even willing to show the proper way to disassemble that part of the gun( literally just the pin) To someone who likes to know the ins and outs of my own pistols i find it kind of ridiculous that it is so hard to find real information on the vp9 series of pistols. They really don't want us doing any maintenance to the gun for free. Even if it comes down to safety. "its not at all safe to do this yourself so please send it in to me and pay such and such an amount to literally just take out the darn pin. I've owned lots of other pistols from berretta's , m&p shields and 2.0 series pistols to 2011 pistols. all of these pistols have tons of information on how to work on them yourself. So lets just take the whole safety issue out of here cuz in reality this is simply an advertisement for the business. Its not so much about safety as it is about advertising the company.
You try to make a convincing argument for how great the VP series is and then you destroy your own point by saying how difficult it is to safely disassemble them. Why would any gun enthusiast want such an overly complex gun that is so fragile? I was thinking about getting the SK model since I saw it was on sale and this video has completely deterred me from doing so. Thanks for warning me.
The VP9 is not fragile. The VP Series is extremely robust, but the ham-handed reefing and prying on parts that occurs when folks don’t understand how to properly disassemble them would break any pistol. Get armorer level training from a certified professional or send it to someone who won’t break your shit because they know what they’re doing. It’s not a hard concept. I explain this clearly in the video, if you pay attention.
That would be like a Toyota mechanic complaining about difficulties working on a BMW because it’s a different car from a different manufacturer.
