  • I met up with Thomas from @99Rockhounding for a day on a river searching for those elusive Lake Superior agates. I'm glad he was my guide because he really delivered on his promise to take me to some agates. What an awesome day.

That creek is a gem in and of itself. There's something magical about a creek in early spring. Hmm. Maybe the magic is the lack of mosquitos and blackflies.

@@MichiganRocks Rob, I can’t go play in the woods everyday!! I’ll take the country roads to a location in town rather than street drive! Maybe I do not understand your statement! Isn’t Michigan and Minnesota rather kinda close in the same habitat? I picture you two out sways from town enjoying your surroundings of trees and all that good stuff!! I’m realizing I do not go out adventuring very much, because of lack of people available during the day. I gotta change that, but not till after this crappy 90 degree humidity ends!! I use to Love Spring when it was 50-60 degrees for atleast a month. Not anymore! Well, I went on about nothing! I’ll end this! With one other subject!! I grew up on an inland lake near where I live now. I did a lot of fishing off the end of the dock as a young kid. My dad rarely fished in the lake we lived on because he just loved fishing for salmon and lake trout in Lake Huron. I went with him a lot, but that sort of fishing was pretty boring to me as a kid. We'd fish 8-10 miles off shore, so there wasn't anything to look at but water. My dad was also not a great fisherman. We usually only had two lines down because he would get more than that tangled. We caught fish, but it was a lot of waiting in between. If I ever got into fishing, it would be stream fishing or casting. I'm not great at sitting still.

@@MichiganRocks ha! Thats funny! My dad wasn't a fisherman either or a hunter,, but I wanted to be. I guess if you want you will be...so I became. Lol. I taught my kids that joy & they enjoy. I taught them easier fishing such as perch, blue gill, crappie etc. Then grew them into more challenging fish. Glad your dad took you out though. Sounds like even though not doing well fishing, he enjoyed taking & being with you!

@@dreamlookautodetailingauto3353 Yes, I had a good day. We also went hunting together and I liked that a lot more. I'm not a big hunter either, but I do some. I used to hunt ducks quite a bit, but now squirrels are more my thing. I don't need to get up so early!

Hi Taylor, I know you are not supposed to ask people where they find their morel mushrooms, where their best fishing hole is, or where they find agates, but I'm curious if you'd be willing to share what streams or rivers you like to hunt on the North Shore. I'm no spring chicken so I'm not real agile in the hiking aspect. My husband and I have been visiting the NS for 49 years and have collected many interesting things over the years. I enjoy watching your channel and am in awe of the magnificent agates you always seem to find. Fellow Rock Collector, Bonnie

I think you might be confusing me with Agate Dad. He's Taylor and lives in Minnesota. I'm Rob and I'm from Michigan. I have only made two trips to Minnesota to hunt rocks. I rely on locals to help me with locations, and for that reason, I don't want to share their spots. I don't think Taylor typically shares locations. I share most of my Michigan locations, but not all of them.

Do you ever talk about why you don't reveal where you actually are? What are some of the good reasons to not reveal locations? Would you consider letting us know a general area of where you are?

    • @MichiganRocks

I usually do say exactly where I am. Sometimes I'm with someone who would prefer that I not publicize their favorite hunting spots. Fishermen and mushroom hunters aren't likely to share their favorite spots either.

Hey Rob, quick question. I'm shopping around for polish for my rotary tumblers and I know you recommend The Rock Shed and Northern Kingsley for grits and supplies, but which one do you typically get your polish from? The rock shed has aluminum oxide polish and says it's 2 microns, but Kingsley advertises theirs as micro alumina and says it's 1-3 microns so not sure which one to get. Any input would be greatly appreciated and keep up the solid work good sir!

I usually get my polish from the Rock Shed. I have tried the Kingsley North polish and got the same results, though. I think it's the same thing, or very close to the same.
