- Kadala Curry (Chickpea Curry) is popular for being the winning side dish for most of the Kerala style breakfasts. From Puttu, Idiyappam, Appam, Chappathi and even with steamed rice, it goes perfectly with everything. Enriched with the Indian spices, it is not only tremendously tasty, but also highly nutritious. Just like most of the Kerala style breakfast recipes, Kadala Curry is Vegan and gluten free; thus becoming a favourite to not only foodies, but also for health enthusiasts.

Chickpea (കടല) - 1 Cup (200 gm)
Turmeric Powder (മഞ്ഞള്‍പൊടി) - ¼ Teaspoon
Garlic (വെളുത്തുള്ളി) - 5 Cloves
Onion (സവോള) - 2 Nos (200 gm) - Chopped
Coriander Powder (മല്ലിപ്പൊടി) - 3 Tablespoons
Chilli Powder (മുളകുപൊടി) - 1 Tablespoon
Garam Masala (ഗരം മസാല) - 1 Teaspoon
Tomato (തക്കാളി) - 1 No
Thick Coconut Milk (കൊഴുപ്പുള്ള തേങ്ങാപ്പാൽ) - ½ Cup (125 ml)
Mustard Seeds (കടുക്) - ½ Teaspoon
Dry Red Chilli (ഉണക്കമുളക്) - 3 Nos
Shallots (ചെറിയ ഉള്ളി) - 5 Nos
Curry Leaves (കറിവേപ്പില) - 2 Sprigs
Coconut Oil (വെളിച്ചെണ്ണ) - 4 Tablespoons
Salt (ഉപ്പ്) - 2 Teaspoons
Water (വെള്ളം) - 3+3 Cups (1500 ml)

It was love at first sight. When I had no option but cook all the meals, my son suggested your channel. Not only Kadalakkari, I tried almost all the dishes. I tried slight variations for value addition. For example, for Masaladosa, added carrot and beetroot to potato. Added a few cashew nuts and parippukadala before onion etc. Etc.

I started cooking full fledged few months back when my mom got a transfer to a different city. I had to cook for myself and for my dad. Love your videos and the concise and precise information. The kadala curry came out good but there was one problem. I made it in the morning and it tasted great but by afternoon it became slimy and got spoiled. Later I figured out that the issue was with the instruction to shut the flame after adding coconut milk. I had used carton coconut milk but not heating the coconut milk enough looks like the culprit...
