Hello everyone! Don’t forget to like the video and sub down below 👇🏼 Let me know what you think of my set up in the comments… HUGE year of content planned, strap in 👊🏼
1.5 years out from buying a simple bench, weight rack, barbell, and a few dumbbells and bands and I'll never be paying for another gym membership. I love training at home with absolute freedom over the space. Cycling, running, hiking, and lifting give me everything I need and more! Keep up the great content man!
Fergus. You deserve a million subscribers! A natural! You also should be given a TV contract. So inspiring and honest and real. Top Man! Thank you. You have brought so much to the attention of so many of us. Your work is appreciated. Even the simplest of things you have done, now in winter help so much. Stay safe and carry on doing what you are doing. Appreciated!
Totally agree with all your pros v cons. The only other con I would add is the community aspect, never thought I missed it, but I joined a crossfit box last year to complement my home gym, and realised how much I missed working out with other people. Still don't regret the home gym either!
Indeed! I’ve always done most of my training on my own, but it’s just arbitrarily people watching between sets that I sometimes miss haha! Community is a point I should have perhaps covered more!
During lockdown I built a power cage out of reclaimed timber, got a cruddy bar for cheap-ish of ebay and casted my own plates out of concrete in a big bucket, and I've never looked back.
This is genuinely the only UA-cam channel I actually want upload notifications from. Thanks for this once again mate, the advice and lessons from this channel are the most potent and clear cut that I've come across. Stick with it 🤙
Would love to see the hamstring curl/ leg extension attachment in a bit more detail! It really does help with a home gym problem in terms of accessory movements for the legs. Also being able to attach it to the rack means it doesn't take up the floor space of a dedicated machine. A review/ link to this on blk box's website would be great
Love your setup! Built my own home gym 3-4 years ago (pretty simple, power rack, bench, barbell, boxing bag, adjustable dumbbells), loved it initially for the flexibility in terms of being able to use whatever equipment I had, whenever I wanted to. But being at home, I felt like I lost the "detachment" , where going to the gym previously felt like getting away from home. Now I was working out while still at home, still distracted by normal home stuff. But cost-wise vs gym membership, it has paid for itself 2 times over, and my kids and wife are getting into it too. If you have the space and the means, I definitely recommend it.
Gyms looking great. Your video last year with a few others inspired myself to get my own gym shed built in the garden. Thought I'd miss the commercial gym but would never go back now. Keep up the good work bud 👍
I like your home gym. I live in apartment, and I recently bought few items for working out from home (Olympic barbell, plates 140kg total, which is more than enough for me at the moment, universal bench I can put in different positions, flat, angles in several positions etc). my GF is yoga fan, so from earlier she has some anchors attached to a ceiling for yoga swing or what not. I haven't been in a gym since pandemic started, so almost two years, and whole that time I've been working from home. so I had to make some changes because mountain biking and stuff like that wasn't enough, and I'm glad I pulled the plug on this project. with all the stuff I have, and bit creativity, I can do most of the stuff I want and need, and with time, I'll upgrade to few bits and bobs. I've been planning to make some sort of pully like you have, only more from hardware store, because in my country, it is hard to find everything I need. my goal is mainly to be healthy as possible, and with this setup, I can do all the compound lifts, which is great. downside is that I'm in apartment, so I have to be extra careful when deadlifting. guess more control and slow eccentric phase means more of hypotrophy :) good luck with your channel and your endeavors.
Currently putting together my own garage gym. I've sometimes wondered if I'm doing the right thing (especially when the debit card comes out), but the pro points you made got me nodding along. So thanks for the boost and the tips!
Good video as someone who has a home gym and a young child, and one on the way as well as a busy work from home job, It makes such a difference from a time management POV., to be able to plan my day do some morning cardio training in the morning do job and errands in the day if I have to then after work, spend some time with family then once the little one has gone to bed I can then go in and do my weights work. It cuts back on all the time waste i.e travel too and from the gym, busy periods in the gym also a lot of distractions through chat and conversation, don't get me wrong its nice for the social but when you have limited time, you kinda want to get things done. I think as far as benefits, you covered a lot. I think for cons, is the cost as well as hidden costs like insulation, heating, paint, possibly some electrical work etc as well as the actual equipment cost and costs per weights being higher mostly due to covid. Equipment choices vs space and diversity? Having equipment that services multiple uses but takes up a respectable footprint. Also the social aspect, some people are not used to training alone, which is something I would recommend some get used to doing first as it can be hard for people not used to this to stay motivated. Getting some niceties in as well, i.e a Bluetooth speaker and a TV if possible? Don't have to be the greatest but can be nice to do cardio or workout with youtube or Netflix when doing a long cardio session or music through a speaker.
@@ferguscrawley95 good man I also had a home gym during lockdown and it didn't half keep my head straight But just couldn't get into a proper workout Keep up the good work
Watched all the videos of this build. Really good Info thank you. Looking to get myself some bits from BLK Box so will be sure to use your code. One question, if you could only have one barbell (as a beginner), which would you go for? I guess the Belfast would be a good choice but not sure if should go with one with centre knurl? Thanks, Mark
Hey, mate.. for someone who is in the process of getting a home gym set up (for hybrid athletes) what do you think the BARE minimum would be? just a rack/bench/barbell? also, how much did all of your equipment cost you in total? Congrats on your recent 60K Ultra + 600K total, btw.. love your vids, brother.
Hey Fergus, Do you manage to fit Glute Thrusts in using the pivot? I have one ordered for my Goliath on the way and have a single garage so it can be narrow at times
Does the frame of the folding rack sit on the floor when extended (so is the bar weight when on rack going through the floor or held up by the bracket)? Thinking about one of these for a garden building which has a concrete block wall.
Hey Fergus, looking into tri training and curious what your thoughts were on indoor training software Zwift/Trainerroad/sufferfest and whats best for first full distance tri. Loved the video and following you for the future! Keep up the work mate!

I'd love an indoor home gym. I recommend rubber cow mats for the floor. Mad cheap and decent sound deadening.
Thanks Fergus, this was awesome brother. Lots of stuff to get for my home gym ! Always motivating & inspiring. Have a super week brother

Great video, and when those kiddies come along it pays back in a whole new way !
No regrets! Just mad I didn't start my home gym sooner

Thanks Fergus it’s a goal this year to create a home space, that Hybrid bar though
Best of luck with it all my man! Indeed, a solid addition 🤌🏼
Another great video! keep up the good work mate!
BLK BOX is absolutely brilliant, I have a few bits from them. Ever thought of getting some sandbags? Pretty cheap, versatile and can be brutal!
Great video!
Thanks Chris!
one of the best things I ever did was getting a home gym
Have you considered jammer arms if you can install one on your rack, that will substitute the need for hammer strength machines
One thing I don’t understand…who’s gonna carry the boats…and the logs?
Please write a book!
That is all
👀 excited to say that something is in the works (very early stages)

Excellent video 2 questions how do u keep it warm in the winter? And what ventilation do u have as I have the exact same garage door as u
Here we are, here we are
Indeed, indeed.

Would you say a con is missing out on the social side of a commercial gym, getting out, seeing people? Or does that really not phase you?
Awesome ..🔥🔥🔥

Random question but do you know the height and width of your garage @Fergus?
I’d like to know this too, and the length 👌
When are you signing a rugby contract there bud? Cheers from the US

Fergus - what’s the situation with the floor? Was it horse matting? I remember you had those issues trying to clean it. Would you recommend it?
What is the width of your safety squat bar? I have narrow shoulders and it is difficult to find something less wide.
how's the pulley working out? which product is it? got any footage?
It's excellent, 'Single Cable Pulley' and loads of footage in recent videos yes!
