  • Every week I share my knitting and crochet in podcast episodes on UA-cam. How do you do this or that is a question that is often asked.
Explanation videos, or tutorials, are not on my wish list to make. I can't answer all those questions separately. However, sharing how I do certain things is no problem for me.
So that is why I start this series 'How Sarah ... '
Just a video showing me how I do something. Without explanation. With mistakes. Almost real. Maybe it will help you.
Links to any tips and tutorials I use can be found below. Of course you are welcome to share your knowledge and questions in the comments. Maybe someone else will benefit from it or can help you further.
    -----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Crochet a granny square for my scrappy Ariana
    - I start my granny square with a magic loop.
    - At the beginning of the row I crochet two chains instead of a double crochet. With two chains I can close the row nicer and easier than with three chains.
    - I crochet 2 chain stitches in each corner and no chain stitches between the other granny clusters.
    - For this garment I crochet granny squares with a clear difference between the front and the back.
    - After I have closed a row I go with slip stitches to the opening on the next corner. I attach my new color there and start the next round.
    - I work away the beginning threads of a new color as-you-go. This is a new way for me. I suspect it will be a keeper. I used the following explanation videos on Instagram:

This is brilliant! Thank you. I do love the way there is no talking or music. I have watched others and since I try to learn sonething new, I find music distracting, and sometimes annoying, so have turned it off! You are a brilliant lady!

Sarah, I'm very thankful for your lovely podcast!!! Every episode is so amazing to me 😊. And I fell in love with your diagonal granny square blanket ❤!!! I search so many time for a pattern but I failed... 😢. Please can you show us sometime 🙏🏼🙏🏼🙏🏼, how you crochet a HALF granny square? I would be really happy about that.
    Lovely greetings from germany,

This is how I do it too, just left with half the number of ends to finish off. Anything to save ends.
Strange to ‘hear’ you silent. 😄 You normally remind me of my best friend, she also uses three words when one will do and makes me smile every day 😂😊😊

Thank you, I now can understand how you weave in your ends as you go. I have been crocheting for many, many years. I stopped weaving in my end as I went because it didn't stay. Now I see you tie a knot then go back and forth with the yarn as we weave them in. Thank you. It was nice just watching. ❤❤

I like your magic loop beginning. I had never seen that before. I’m finding it much easier and neater that making six chains, joining, then working into the circle. I slowed the speed of the video right down to see exactly what you were doing, and it was great. Thank you Sarah. 🤎🤎🤎

Thank you so much!! I loved this UN-tutorial. ❤ If you ever feel like it, I’d love to watch you as you connect your squares to a larger project. Love how you are yourself with no apologies. 🤎

After trying for many years I finally learnt to crochet during lockdown doing granny squares. I actually hold the yarn like you do, barely holding it really, others I've seen have intricate ways of holding it. I also join the yarn like you do but I've never seen anyone catch the ends in the way you do, I'll definitely try that, thanks x

Thank you for this “not a tutorial” video. We hold our hook and feeding yarn the same. For me, I find that I have to go down a hook size or two as I tend to crochet loosely. I absolutely love the way you crochet your ends in!!! I’ve crocheted for well over 50+ years and never seen it done that way. It seems very secure and it’s done as you crochet!!! Love that. Thanks for sharing your method of creating a granny square!!! Stay safe and be blessed ❤.

Hi Sarah, loved watching how you work, so quick, smooth and neat. and learnt two new things .... the way you crochet your ends in, so much more secure than working them in along the bottom like I do, and, the way you tie off and join the new threadf - genius! I did miss your chit chat tho ☺💙

It's nice to see how you hold your hands and move your fingers to crochet. I am not yet very good at crocheting, so it's taken a very long time for me to complete my Ariana Cardigan. I am almost finished.

Beautiful granny square. Loved watching how you crochet & seeing your technique, I think mine is quite similar. I’ve never mastered holding my left index straight and hooking the yarn off it. An idea for a future non tutorial, can you show us how you knit? Love your channel, thank you for sharing🧶🤎

That’s was quick getting this posted! So relaxing to watch, I love your colours and that is a very nifty way of weaving in ends, I don’t think they would come out very easily? Xx❤

Could you share how you lay it all out to put it together? It seems confusing figuring out how to seem them all together and how to lay them out.
