I have watched so many join as you go crochet squares and yours is by far the best. Your voice is so soothing and your repeating is very helpful. Thank you so much, from South Africa. KZN ❤
I have learned more about granny squares in the first 6 minutes than I have in YEARS of crochet...No wonder I never committed to a granny square blanket before! Thank you for the instruction!
1. This is sooo much less overwhelming for making anything that has multiple granny squares. I crochet to help with my anxiety and depression as well as to craft beautiful and useful items/gifts but the joining process has stalled many of my projects. This helps a lot so thank you! 2. Your voice, energy and smile are so lovely. I sometimes have your videos playing in the background while I'm doing chores for their soothing effect. 3. Your nails, girl! Always on point!!! I'm jealous, lol.
I love the colour combination you used to make this blanket. Crochet granny square blankets can look so dated but the diagonal placement of the squares really modernize the look your blanket.
Hey, Toni. I'm early, so I'm motivated to comment something. I wanted to say that your content has really encouraged me to branch out in crochet, and it has helped me so much throughout quarantine. You are my favorite crochet youtuber, and your content has helped me get through 2020. I adore your podcasts, and I love your take on everything. You are such a breath of fresh air, and I think everyone can agree on that. I hope your 2021 is amazing!
This is brilliant! I thought it would be difficult to learn but it isn’t! And it looks SO much nicer than seaming! Thank you Toni for being an awesome teacher!❤
This is great. There's nothing more daunting than a bag full of squares that need to "come together" so you have an actual item. This is especially good because you do it as you go so you also see your project take shape! Thanks bunches.
I was expecting this to be something like how I've seen people just chain stitching together granny squares and it never looked right to me, but now I kind of want to try this out on my next project, it looks really nice!
I've always liked Granny Square's but despised joining them therefore I know this video was made for me!! lol In as much I honestly know all of us have been waiting with baited breath for your video. I have tons of yarn that have been screaming to be used in this project. My favorite yarns are a medium #4. I can't wait to start it. I know my beautiful colors will be gorgeous using your method of connecting. THANK YOU, THANK YOU AND THANK YOU AGAIN. 🤗😘👍😘
This is such a GREAT idea. I wish I had known of this method before I made and stitched together a queen size granny square (on the bias) blanket! Can't wait to use this on my next project...a granny square lap-ghan! Thank you, Toni! Hugs & blessings!
I’m just finishing the last row of a sunflower granny square Afghan. I love putting them together as you go. Looks great! I used a row of sage green around the flower & 2 rows of black. Connecting on the second row of black. You do great tutorials. Thanks so much.
Thank you so much for these tips! I was about to give up on granny squares and now I’m so excited to practice what I’ve learned and starting creating all sorts of new projects!
Thank you Tony thank you very much for this tutorial it was very helpful. I love your channel I love your soft spoken voice to explain and teach thank you again God bless and stay safe
I love your teaching style. Your voice is very soothing and you explain things so clearly. Also, mind blown - I have been crocheting for several years, although I am completely self taught via UA-cam and books so admittedly I am no expert, but I have NEVER heard of joining a new yarn with a standing double crochet! I love learning new things so thank you!
This is so helpful! Thank you very much. I found you a few weeks ago and I've just been devouring all of your content lol. Your videos and method of teaching are so greatly appreciated.
I’m a knitter, who sometimes admits she knows how to crochet, but I love those little grannies and your connecting, as you go, technique, and that corner...you are awesome! Thank you!
Great video! I've been crocheting for almost 60 yrs, since I'm 8, and I guess you can teach a "old dog" new tricks. Loved the "standing double crochet" and your video on connecting as you go was easy to understand. Love your reviews on yarn, they were some of the 1st I ever watched on UA-cam. Got hubby to buy me your book for Christmas last year and plan to start learning Tunisian this year for some gifts. Thanks Toni ❤
I really liked this method.i like how it gets finished as you go along. I really never thought I wanted to make anything in granny squares because I don't like how they are normally joined but I like this way. Thank you for sharing, Toni.
i've watched a lot of JAYG tutorials and this one has to be the best yet! thank you for explaining all of it so well. I'm excited to put my chunk of granny squares together
Oh My Goodness! I just found you! And l absolutely LOVE LOVE LOVE you and your content. You have inspired me to pull out ALL unfinished projects and get it DONE! Thanks dear...
I am making a granny square calendar blanket and I want to have a clean look between the squares. I decided to do this method. It helped out a lot! Keep up the good work!
I have always wanted to do a granny square blanket but I always had problems joining the squares together. This makes it sooo mich easier! Thank you!!!!!💙
Hello Tony, I am making a heart granny square. i am going to try to join as I go with this meathod. Wish me luck. I also received your book and I love ~ love ~ love ~ it. I am looking forward to trying these patterns. I would love to see you makes some baby items with your crochet alongs. You are such a joy to learn from. Thanks and Merry Christmas.
Thank you so much for this wonderful tutorial ❤ I was really hesitant to attempt this joining method but you have made it easier to learn......thanks again ...... all the way from the Gold Coast, Queensland, Australia .....🦘🦘🦘
I love this! The video makes it look so easy and straightforward, and I really like the "granny on the bias"--it gives the granny square a refreshed look. Thank you for this video!
Hello , Debbie from the Canadian crocheters had your Daphnie Afghan on her utube channel I am so excited I love granny st so when I saw your afghan I just had to buy it and come over to subscribe to your channel have a wonderful day Nancy from Western Massachusetts.❤️
Okay, so, in watching you make your magic ring, you make it with a slip stitch and you don't crochet over the part with 2 strands of yarn? Was I seeing that correctly? Omg if that works that is such a game changer! I am making this blanket for my best friend. We've been friends for over 30 years and just when she had given up hope of ever having biological kids, she got pregnant, at 43! Needless to say this baby is not only a rainbow baby, but a tiny, very much loved little girl! I started my squares last night but I wasn't quite getting it, now I am a visual learner so this helped tremendously! As always thank you!
Where have you been? I wish I had discovered you long ago. Thankfully, I have now found you. Who knew there was such a thing as those nifty blocking boards that snap together? I've used so many things. Some of my projects are big, so I've even used my bed and every towel in the house and folded sheets and blankets underneath to protect my mattress..... I'm going to be participating in the 2021 Traveling Afghan CAL project. And I'm going to dive into mosaic crochet. If I have to sit at home, I might as well be doing something!
Do you need to have a chain space between clusters for the join-as-you-go method? I've started making my granny squares without and prefer doing it that way, but wondering if combining it with this method will make things bunch together if there isn't enough space for the slip stitch.
The slip stitch is about the width of a chain anyway, so it may be worth it to add the ch-1 if you're joining with this method. There are other methods to join-as-you-go that join every stitch, so a ch-1 wouldn't be necessary.
I was so excited. I decided to do the 2021 Traveling Afghan Seasons. I have my yarn, I have my hooks. I went to work up my text swatch to check my gauge. Massive typo in the instructions. I tried to reach out to them, could not find an email. I posted on their blog's website, but as they did not respond to a previous post asking about this years CAL, I'm not sure they check their blog. The FB page is stagnant. I will try Instagram, but I'm not hopeful. I'm going to reach out to Lion Brand. Maybe they can contact Whistles and Wool.
What happens if you usually chain 2 in the corners of granny squares? I learned it was chain 1 between the groups of 3 double crochets, but in the corners it’s chain 2. Will this still work or do I need to switch it to only ch1 in corners?
Thank you so much for this tutorial. I just learned to crochet a granny square on your granny square beginner video. Question -- is there a reason why in that video you have us chain 2 in corners where here you only chain 1? If I chain 2 in the corner which of those should I replace with the slip stitch to the other square in JYAG? Thanks so much!
Oh my goodness🤯 This explanation is the clearest I've seen! I no longer feel intimidated by JAYG. Thank you!!❤
I have watched so many join as you go crochet squares and yours is by far the best. Your voice is so soothing and your repeating is very helpful. Thank you so much, from South Africa. KZN ❤

You just took the words right out of my mouth!! My sentiments exactly!! I can’t wait to get into doing this! I’m so excited to do this project!!
1. This is sooo much less overwhelming for making anything that has multiple granny squares. I crochet to help with my anxiety and depression as well as to craft beautiful and useful items/gifts but the joining process has stalled many of my projects. This helps a lot so thank you!

I’m sure I hear angels singing. Thank you for this video
The way you join the new color is AWESOME!! I HATE changing colors. This will be my new go-to. 🙌🏼🙌🏼🙌🏼
Also I love your color choices!!
I appreciate that you repeat the process enough times so that it "clicks" in my head. So glad I found this channel!
I have watched so many JAYG tutorials, diagrams and charts. This is the ONLY one that I was able to follow! Thanks!
I love the colour combination you used to make this blanket. Crochet granny square blankets can look so dated but the diagonal placement of the squares really modernize the look your blanket.
I love that idea...not so overwhelming.
I am from the academy and I appreciate this lesson. I was lost at the beginning but I got it now.

Thank you, Toni!!!
Loved the step by step explanation Toni! Looks much more airy then the usual join by single crochet or slip stichting. Will definitely be trying this!

This is awesome! How do you join the rest of the squares? Im having a hard time visualizing how to do it.
Me toooooo
How she attached the triangle granny, that is basically how you can attach the other squares too. You will only be attaching 2 or 3 squares together!
What happens if you usually chain 2 in the corners of granny squares? I learned it was chain 1 between the groups of 3 double crochets, but in the corners it’s chain 2. Will this still work or do I need to switch it to only ch1 in corners?
You’ll just chain 1 in the corner, then join. The join will take the place of your second chain 😄
