That aimpoint really brings back the memories. When i was 17 back in 88 my mom bought me my first handgun, a ruger mk2 target model. She asked the guy at the gun counter to put a laser sight on it (no clue why, but cool mom) and he brings this laser sight out that was about the size of a carton of cigarettes. He says, you really don't want this, its too big and you got to wear these special glasses during the daylight to see the laser. He passes me this aimpoint and says this is what you want. So we bought it, waited the 7 or 15 days to pick up a pistol in those days and he mounted it up and zeroed it and i shot it like that for a while. Then i got my first ar15 in 89, an olympic arms rifle, 20" barrel with the a2 furniture but an a1 upper receiver, first gun I ever bought myself, with my own money. After a couple of range trips I got the wild idea to mount my aimpoint onto it, got basically that exact mount and put it on there. Shot it for a while in really early 2 gun matches. What a great trip down memory lane.

Such a great video Larry! I love that setup and I like seeing some of the adaptations that armorers and soldiers made to suit a specific mission set. Really a cool bit of history there.
That CAR-15 may seem like a dated design. But I will bet the Special Forces guys that carried them in that era could have accomplished their missions with Garands, M1 carbines, and Thompson SMG’s if they had to.

HAH. I served 3 years in the IDF and we always used coupled mags with metal couplers. It became a constant habit to slam the magazine into your head before loading the second magazine in the coupler because the round always hung forward. Damn vibrations!
I have a colt AR-15 6920 with a fix carry handle similar configuration to the CAR 15. I installed an acog on top of the carry handle as shown on video. I could never get a consistent eye relief until I installed a cheek riser on the stock.

AlaskanGunGeek I don’t know a lot about slow mo video editing, but I think once you slow it down to a certain point you can’t even tell what you’re hearing because it’s so slowed down. Maybe less editing on the shots at regular speed, but I don’t think there’s much Larry can do for the slow mo shots that would make them sound better than adding a little editing.
His camera doesn't record slow-motion sound. So playing the audio in slow motion would leave 'gaps' where the audio wasn't recorded. Or something like that. Basically, Larry said his camera doesn't record sound.
It's getting really bad. Like it was okay with the slow mo, but the video game gun sounds on the normal speed stuff and the weird noises when the shots hit the steel are just horrid.
Its not the firearms themselves really, its just the lights and optics that have improved and the lights and optics wouldn't have helped us much back in the 90s when i was in the infantry. Lights were a total no-no, youd be killed if you turned a light on at night..l and optics wouldnt have helped you much either bc in the warfare we were training for it was all about vietnam style ambush, you never saw the enemy they just shot at you from concealment. All this new stuff you have came from a new warfare thats more like a law enforcement type situation. Mechanized house to house fighting. Way we fought and trained back in the 70s 80s and 90s was alot different, lights and optics werent needed, it was all close range ambush at night in the bushes..low visibility in thick vegetation.

No M4’s when I was in at least not in are until. I wasn’t in Delta force either through.... crazy set up , when you look at things today. Kind of falls in line with the first cell phones and what is out today ... just amazing where we’ve come in 30/40 years with technology... thanks...

Awesome video! Awesome gun! We are in the age of rails and optic sights but the carrying handle will always have a place in my heart. I used a similar weapon but without the optics during training, but then changed to the Galil, our CAR-15s were just too beaten up to work.
You must be IDF.
I partied with you guys in Eilat 1994..
Just shows that simplicity and ingenuity can win the fight.
Necessity is mother of all invention
Wow....Vickers seemed really at home with this rifle...I see why it's so impartial to him. God bless....
The Original Gucci AR !!👍🏻🇺🇸💪🏻
Such a great video Larry! I love that setup and I like seeing some of the adaptations that armorers and soldiers made to suit a specific mission set. Really a cool bit of history there.
That CAR-15 may seem like a dated design. But I will bet the Special Forces guys that carried them in that era could have accomplished their missions with Garands, M1 carbines, and Thompson SMG’s if they had to.
Dude, imagine carrying a Garand into a modern battlefield!
That ain't no three shot burst - frkn impressive, doesn't do it justice! May this man have a never ending supply of .223! Thank you sir for your service and for sharing your expertise with us!
I can't remember the last time I clicked on a UA-cam video so quickly.
HAH. I served 3 years in the IDF and we always used coupled mags with metal couplers. It became a constant habit to slam the magazine into your head before loading the second magazine in the coupler because the round always hung forward. Damn vibrations!
Great video!! May I ask what was the camera that was used to shoot this video? The slowmo is absolutely perfect!! Thanks in advance!
I have a colt AR-15 6920 with a fix carry handle similar configuration to the CAR 15. I installed an acog on top of the carry handle as shown on video. I could never get a consistent eye relief until I installed a cheek riser on the stock.
Ah, the weapon that started all of my hopes and fantasies about what my military career was going to be like, but then Uncle Sugar replaced it by the time I got into the community.
It was like your high school sweetheart broke up with you at prom, but then I received my first "Mk18" and it was like the PMOY slapped your sweetheart for breaking your heart and then blew you in the parking lot.
Always a pleasure to watch your videos Larry.
I saw this on forgotten weapons xD
So unbelievably cool man. Thanks for sharing
4:29-4:50 sounds like an airsoft gun. I love the videos but the added sound effects are pretty dumb decisions imo.
I agree, love the slowmo but ditch the fake sounds.
Congrats on getting back to fighting weight Larry. A good part of the shooting community needs to follow your lead.
Jesus, I can't believe THIS was the tip of the spear.
Looking good Larry. Trimmed up pretty good. Good job.
Awesome 👍, 5 chairborne rangers disliked this video!
Mark Chaverri lol 🤣
When hose clamps and 100 mile an hour tape make you look better than a billion dollar video game, love ya brother
Makes you appreciate the kinda high tech firearms we got nowadays. #JakeHunter88
It’s amazing how creative they had to get with mounting accessories before there were rails on hand guards and upper receivers
