When del toro sweeps Emily Blount, you could argue that his character doesn't really care if he sweeps someone lol.

Her character also reacts realistically to that sweep as well.

    • @BootyBot
      @BootyBot 4 роки тому +485

@@tr5398 yeah, her body language and face looks offended by it, like she knows he's fucking up. Subtly suggests that he's probably not that empathetic of a guy or that he lacks the same training. Which is kind of impressive because that would mean they actually put extra effort into the scene where he sweeps her.

    • @matthewsavino
      @matthewsavino 4 роки тому +264

@@BootyBot I doubt that its the character lacks the training. He's doing illegal things throughout the movie so i'd argue that he just doesn't care about it that much, and there is a lot more important and sort of time sensitive issue at hand

From what I've read because I never knived anyone just got stabbed in a left palm once, bayonet through a lung seem to work well. The guy physically couldn't scream just let off a gasp. However an old school WWII bayonet is much more longer than a modern day combat knive. Plus nowadays you have body armour widely in use.

Bro everyone in their community knows Marcus Luttrell and his brothers fucked up big-time which automatically led to their demise. I'm not talking shit on them they are warriors but even the best warriors fuck up some days. Not to mention that the actual Intel actually put the fighters between 7 to 15 not 200 like the movie makes it out to be. There are legit documents that were published accidentally from Freedom of Information Act before they were retracted again stating the actual estimated number of Fighters. The intel was actually collected by the CIA and several other Special Operations units passed on the mission because they didn't think it was worth going after 7 to 15 guys. This is further supported by other special forces operators Mike Glover respectfully talks about some of the details including passing up the mission by Delta, Marsoc, and others on Andy Stumpf podcast. Marcus Luttrell fatass never should have been a seal he couldn't even handle the runs without having to have his twin brother do them for him. He's a joke but hey he's a millionaire good for him.

Taylor Sheridan wrote both movies as well as several other great action movies and TV of recent years. He also was a character on Sons of Anarchy, so his gun handling antecedents are well developed. It appears he appreciates good gun handling technique and demands the realism. Another well done episode by you and your crew. Thanks.

If you look really close we switch weapons out the entire movie. I worked on it as one of the Delta guys, when we are kitting up at the trucks to go into the tunnels we have Colt Commandos with Magpul furniture on it but when we are in the tunnels actually shooting we have M-4s. We mentioned it to the prop guys but they didn't care, they gave us plate carriers that were all set up exactly alike. We started moving pouches around and they couldn't understand why we wanted to personalize it.

In the movie, the subtitle translation to "In peace, in peace..." is actually an error. Benicio is not saying "En paz, en paz...", which would actually translate to what the subtitles say. I was just rewatching this video and thought about a comment Larry made.
I agree that the correct way of handling her M4 would be to have it on "Safe" until she made the decision to fire and would manipulate the selector at that time, which is the way Larry teaches in his classes (I've had the privilege of training and hosting him multiple times).
But I've also trained with many other instructors, some outstanding, some good, and two absolutely horrible. One of the two pathetically incompetent instructors was a retired ATF agent who said he was an ATF SRT (or whatever they call their SWAT teams) team leader in NYC and conducted raids on Jamaican gangs. In his carbine class he didn't teach reloading your carbine at all. He said it absolutely never happens under any situation and you always just transition to your sidearm, which I do agree that in CQB situations is the correct response to your carbine going down. But according to him you reload your carbine when you are back in the van on your way to the next target!
But what this ATF "Team Leader" taught that pertains to the selector comment is that your carbine "comes off safe and goes onto auto/burst two blocks before you hit the target" and doesn't get put back on safe until the scene is secure, you pass the scene off to the investigators and you are have hit that magical 2 blocks away from the scene while on your way to the next target!
It sure must be nice to know exactly when a gunfight will kick off, but the whole "this is my safety" BS in CQB is beyond dangerous.
He also taught in class that everyone has negligent discharges, and you have to practice good muzzle discipline so nobody gets hit.
I agree that a carbine should be on safe until the decision to fire is made, but if the FBI HRT team in the movie had a leader like the ATF team leader I took that class with, she would have had her M4 on auto!
That class was a waste of money.

“You’ve got a burn notice on you- you’re blacklisted.”
When you’re burned, you’ve got nothing: no cash, no credit, no job history, you’re stuck in whatever city they decide to dump you in.
      “Where am I?” “Miami.”
You do whatever work comes your way, you rely on anyone who’s still talking to you.
      A trigger happy girlfriend...
      “Should we shoot them?”
An old friend who used to inform on you to the FBI..
“Y’know spies- buncha’ bitchy little girls!”
      Family too, if you’re desperate..
      “Somebody needs your help, Michael..”
And a down and out spy you helped out on the way..
“That’s how we do it people!”
Bottom line, as long as you’re burned- you’re not going anywhere.

Larry, I want to comment on the first sequence where Emily Blunt and her FBI SWAT team are clearing the drug house. My opinion is from the perspective of a thirty-four year police officer and LE instructor in Los Angeles County. I agree that this is a great film but Blunt and her partner failed to act effectively as a team and used poor tactics when entering the second room. In short, Blunt's character essentially cleared the entire room by herself while her partner hesitated outside the doorway threshold. This gave the suspect armed with the shotgun the complete advantage. If he hadn't hesitated he would have surely killed her. While still in the hallway, Blunt's character crossed over to the far side of the closed bedroom door, positioning herself on the hinged side of the inward opening door and across the entrance from her partner. There are a couple of different methods that they could have used but regardless, she and her partner should have entered the room simultaneously and each should have been responsible for one of the two "hard-corners." This mistake was compounded by the fact that they didn't push the door open all the way, which blocked their view to the right and caused Blunt's character to penetrate too deeply into the center of the room. Entering the room alone, Blunt cleared the left hard-corner and then performed a wide, sweeping buttonhook maneuver, turning 180 degrees. Her weapon's muzzle was the last thing to reach the second (right) hard-corner, where the cartel member was already pointing his shotgun at her. I know that in the scene she dropped to the floor to avoid being shot but in the real world that probably wouldn't have been as effective. That's just my opinion for whatever it's worth. Thanks for doing these film reviews Larry. They're great.

Not only this, but she also sort of failed to clear where the gunman was, from what I've seen of CQB clears from DEVGRU level guys, she should've immediately charged that corner rather than going into a section she knew to be clear

and I believe in "the making of" they mention that is live-fire (of course the trucks are empty for the angle/shot). The speed and sound of those rounds.... would make the strongest guys dive for cover.
That whole 'rescue the doctor/agent' scene is great. Enter by water, clear the house, kick out the window to drive into the river, and the SWCC bringing the major smackdown...! Great. But THAT makes it seem like a situation best fitting SEALS (because of the river) more than any other team.

A few years or so ago, one of the local radio stations was interviewing an attendee at the U.S. Border Patrol members convention in Wash D.C.
He was asked about how true to life "Sicario" was to the reality on our southern border.
The reply... "About 90%" true to life.
The rest of the interview was very, VERY alarming.
What really goes on at the border is not being told to the American public.
