John Sweeney is a writer and journalist who, while working for the BBC, has challenged dictators, despots, cult leaders, con artists and crooked businessmen for many years. As a reporter, first for the Observer and then for the BBC, Sweeney has covered wars and chaos in more than eighty countries and been undercover to a number of tyrannies, including Chechnya, North Korea and Zimbabwe.
He was at Chalke Valley History on Tuesday 26th June to join a panel discussing 'Putin's Russia' together with Samuel Ramani and Marina Litvinenko.

Thank you for your interesting interview. Looking at Walter Duranty and his reporting about Russia in 1933 it is sobering to see the results of what can be erroneous reporting.
His Killer in the Kremlin book is great.
His documentary with Tommy Robinson called Panodrama was by far his best work.
