I wish I could give all the thumbs up ever for this video. My pen obsessed, stationary loving heart lives for these types of videos lol! I have an insane amount of pens also. You’re inspiring me to create my own pen review video! Thanks!
This was worth the wait. I enjoyed seeing your favorites and your reasons why. The descriptions really help me make decisions without buying them all. I have a growing collection of pens but this was so very helpful. Thanks for sharing.
I’m SO SURPRISED that I know and use all of these! It’s helps that the Tombow Fudenosuke pens say Soft Tip and Hard Tip on them 👍🏾. I got into pens from watching your planning videos!!!
I have zero luck learning brush lettering with tombow dual tips. I mostly use them to make a swatch of color! I really like the Fudenosuke ones! The blue one is the “hard” tip and the black is the “soft” tip. I have an easier time with the harder tip for control and also got those in colors! For everyday writing I love the Tul, Sharpie S-gel and the Pilot G2!
I'm just getting started with my Happy Planner journey. I have a set of the Tul pens. Sakura has a big set of their gel pens and they are great I have to get me a set but I've used them before and they are probably the best gel pens out there as far as using to color and writing on black paper. Amazon sells the big set and also smaller sets..So many pens and markers I need and want to get. Great video I know I'm late but like I said I'm newer and starting my Happy Planner journey. Thank you Mary- Ellen and Bubble 🥰💗💙💚💛💯
This video was soooooo helpful. I’m just getting into lettering and improving my handwriting in my planner. You know so much and are a pro at your craft. Thank you for sharing.
I am so glad I’m not the only one who feels like that with the Papermates!! I looked up for videos, because I was looking for more options. I was checking the ink of the Papermates today and trying to figure out how I still feel about them, and I just don’t like the feeling when writing. I bought them because of the hype but I didn’t fall in love with them! So glad I found your video!! Thank you!
Great tips! Yes gellyroll comes in all kinds of colors, shimmers , glitters and more. Michaels even sells some of them individually. Those gellyroll pens were stationary goals when I was in high school. We were obsessed.
I ordered the Archer and Olive acrylograph pens today! Ordered the Spring collection in .07. After watching your Lemon spread posted earlier this week, I really wanted to try them. Thanks for all your planner knowledge !
I literally got SO excited when you pulled out the Steadtler fineliners! Those are my absolute favorite! I don't like my handwriting with gel pens. Thank you for this video! I saw some other pens I may have to try!
I really enjoyed this video...lots of info. Sakura does make other colors. I know Michael's carries them in sets and individually. They also come with glitter in the ink as well as metallic. There's also ones that have like a "shadow" effect...i.e. say it's burgundy, but if you move the paper, it also has a gold tint....hard to explain...you need to see it in person. Very cool!
You forgot the most important part about the Tul. They're refillable. I've used them when I decided to start planning last year in November. I'll never be able to use another pen, I just wish they had a white like the sakura!
Wow! Great video. I recognize so many of these pens myself. My personal issue with the energel is that it is not waterproof. I love the Uniball Signo it’s archival and waterproof. But I also agree I find the Energel really pleasant in larger sizes but I really don’t like the 0.4 and 0.3 energel. Luckily the signo (all of them but especially the DX and RT1) don’t have that problem. I hear a lot about the Tul but I never tried it. Felt tip pens are not my favorite and I’m not especially particular as long as they’re waterproof and archival
Thank you for sharing your favorite pens. I have the paper mate flairs and gel pens. I like the variety of colors you get. I was looking for different kinds of pens to use. The tul muji and acrylograph pens are something I may try. I haven’t learned how to brush letter yet. That’s next. Really enjoyed seeing your preferences. 😃
Thank you so much for this video! I. Love. Pens. LOL!! I don't have as many brands as you do, in fact, only a couple of brands, but if I could have ALL THE PENS I would...lol. I got excited when you got out the Paper Mate Ink Joy :-) I use the .7's and find that they write pretty smooth, but once you pointed out the darkened spots on the letters as you write each one, now I can't quit looking for that...LOLOL...and I do see it a little bit, but I still like them. I also have some of the Tombow pens that you have, but have not learned how to use them well enough to write with them in my planner...I would definitely like to learn how to use them :-) Thanks again for sharing all of your pens!! ♥
Tul pens are the bomb. They used to have non-gel pens and I got them ALL the time. I'm not a big fan of gel because of the smear. I'm impatient with drying. But they've grown on me since being an adult...but high school, they were obnoxious. I used to work at an office supply store, and when we got them in stock, it was magical for me. lol Also same problem with Inkjoy. And it's not a problem with retractables. I have the stick/capped pens. Same thing. The brush part on the Tombow is great for coloring in letters. I use them when I make cards to color stuff in. And you have to go over the area much less with it.
Love the Papermate Inkjoys. I don't have any of the problems you mentioned with them. Also love the Zebra Sarasa Retractables. These two are my all time favorites!
I haven't watched your video yet, but I wanted to tell you about this new find because I just saw a vid on it and instantly thought of you. The product is called BrushEX and it's from Germany. It erases waterbased brush pen strokes. Basically it is like UnDu, but for lettering! The Happy Ever Crafter here on YT just put out a video on it and it's amazing. Not only can you erase mistakes, you can use it to draw designs and embellish with it. I can just see you going nuts and laughing, playing with it! Okay, now on to your video. 💛
I love Papermate InkJoy and the Papermate Profile and the Pilot G2. I also love the Papermate Flair pens, however, I purchased the Amazon Basics felt tip pens and I love them! They are similar to the Flair pens, but a bit different. I am going to try the Tul pens. I have tried the Muji ones and they are ok.
Loved the video and I agreed with so many of your choices, like about 99% of them LOL. Tul is always my go to (thanks to your suggestion), however I recently added a Pentel Energel Clena 0.3 to my rotation, for when I need to write really small. I've been going really hard with learning the hand lettering and I agree with the Pentel Touch Sign brush pen being great for beginners. If you want a pen between the sizes of that one and the Tombow Dual Brush, take a look at the ZIG Fudebiyori. Super easy to write with and comes in tons of pretty colors. I reach for them a lot. You might enjoy them.
I use most of these a lot as well although I use a lot of others too. I have the TULs in all the colors and the full set of the rose gold and also their metal barrel too. It’s so fancy! And their fineliners etc. Love TUL! I’ve been using the Microns for years - have them in lots of colors but use my black the most for sure. So consistent. The jelly rolls come in tons of colors if you wanted colors. And the signo comes in thicker versions too in white, silver, gold and a few others. Their bolder white blows the jelly roll out of the water imho for covering lines. But I’m surprised you don’t use the Arteza white gel pen. It’s the best IMHO. Covers so well and comes in a set with different sizes for different needs. I wish the tombows didn’t dry out so fast. They are pricey and that disappoints me everytime so I tend to use other brands. But not my crayola super tips as much because the colors are so inconsistent. I have a huge set and the cap color isn’t anywhere close on so many it’s frustrating.
Hello! I am in love with your videos! I was wondering if you could do a video on how to use stickers for another purpose. For example, how can I use a pay bill sticker as a colorful box? I love the colors of work stickers or pay bill stickers, but I don’t know how to cover them up and was wondering if you could make a video on that? Thanks!
Thanks for doing this Mary Ellen. I am going to use your link to try some of those. I use Pilot Frixion pens (erasable) in my planner but for the brush pens I needed some tips - the Tombow Fude pens are all I have. Will try those Pentel and Pilot ones. Also interested in those colored felt tips. Thanks so much!
The Frixion are definately nice because they're erasable, but I understand if you leave your planner in a hot car, the ink disappears. The ink is heat sensitive, and the heat caused by the eraser on paper makes the ink erase....as well as just sitting in a hot environment.
Thanks for this video. I want to start some brush lettering, so glad for the recommendations. Would also love to get some Acrylograph pens - but fear like you I will become obsessed and want all the colors. Have used some other pens with pretty good results for re-coloring stickers after seeing you do some! Any company would benefit from sponsoring you because you use pens in so many ways. I love it!
Thank you for your insights on the pens. I’m wanting to add to my small collection and there are a few suggestions here that I’ll be adding to my list. I noticed that there’s no Zebra mildliners, I’m loving the brush ones. It would be nice to watch a more dedicated video on the A+O acrylographs.❤️
I also replaced my Energels with Mujis! I love my Muji pens. The .5 and .38 are my go-to's. I will occasionally use the Energel .7 for a thicker line but I use dashboard so I don't like it to feel too overpowered. I don't know why but TUL isn't my fave. Maybe I got a bum batch but they skip something awful for me. I recently found Muji colored pens on Amazon and bought them and they do not disappoint. I just wish there were more colors. I write mostly in black though so I haven't experimented much with the colors. I need to branch out!
I'm with you on the Tul vs. Muji. I've got the same rose gold one Bumble has....I think the ink in your Tul was put into mine....I find it too heavy as it comes out😁.
Such a wonderfully informative video, thanks so much. For me, your demonstration of the InkJoy (which I've been using) and the TUL (which I now have to try), was especially informative. The only thing you maybe didn't cover was the Zebra Mildliners. But thanks for the demo of so may different pens.
Thanks @@PlanningwithBumble . I was just curious about the mildliners because a lot of people seem to use them interchangeably with the Tombow Dual Brush pens in Bullet Journals.
✨I switched from Papermate Flair to BIC Marking Ultra Fine Point!✨ The BICs don’t do that grabby thing on the paper like the Flairs. They write so smooth and light, feel good in your hand, AND they’re permanent ink so they work on vinyl stickers.
This video was very informative, thank you. I wanted to get those uniball signo but the link you gave can’t be found. I’d like to get them for black paper. Can you help getting the correct ones?
Every time I buy a pen that someone says "it doesn't skip" it skips horrible for me! The only thing I've found that doesn't skip are felt tips, but I really wish I could find a ballpoint! Going to try to muji!
Great video! I only had a few biros before I started watching you in 2018. Now I have Pentel Energel, Papermate flair and zig microns. I would have had Muji too but my order was cancelled! 😞 Now I’ve spent 30 minutes browsing more pens! What do you think of the brush pen in the zig micron set?
I know you didn’t mention the Sharpie S note...but I was wondering if you have tried those and if so what do you think about them? Thanks!! Love your video!!!

Yes, please do a video on the Archer and Olive Acrylograph pens; I just got a set in one of their mystery boxes. TFS.
I’m SO SURPRISED that I know and use all of these! It’s helps that the Tombow Fudenosuke pens say Soft Tip and Hard Tip on them 👍🏾. I got into pens from watching your planning videos!!!

You're right about the Pentel Brush Pens! I forgot I had them until I saw this! I have gray and blue, need to get black now! Thanks!
I'm just getting started with my Happy Planner journey. I have a set of the Tul pens. The gelly roll is the perfect white to match the Happy Planner paper. It's the best touch up. Love it.
This video was soooooo helpful. I’m just getting into lettering and improving my handwriting in my planner. You know so much and are a pro at your craft. Thank you for sharing.
Always like to hear your recommendations on planning supplies. Very informative. BTW, I loved your car analogy. 👍🌻
Omg you described Papermate Flair EXACTLY how my brain perceives them but I never knew the words to use!
Watched this video recently and order a set of the TUL pens and came back to say thank you! I love them!
Great to hear!

Thank you for doing a pen review video. Its difficult to know which pen to select for your journaling. Video was very helpful. 😊
Just ordered O&A paint pens to add to my collection. So excited to use these. I have so many of the others you shared.
Thank you! I took notes AND saved this video too!
I literally got SO excited when you pulled out the Steadtler fineliners! Those are my absolute favorite! I don't like my handwriting with gel pens. Thank you for this video! I saw some other pens I may have to try!
I like them too! Forgot how much until I tried them again for this video
Love them but I just discovered they smear badly when you do a Tombow dual brush pen highlight over them. 😩.
I am a little bit late in the game, but what a GREAT vid , thanks so much very helpful and great presented 💫
So helpful! I have been getting tired of my pens - the quality has gone way down. Trying the TUL and the Pentel!!
I really enjoyed this video...lots of info. Sakura does make other colors. I know Michael's carries them in sets and individually. They also come with glitter in the ink as well as metallic. Le Pen pens are lovely and fabulous for Lefties who smudge🤗

I only have one and it’s an older one so mine isn’t great but think the tip is damaged.
Happy Birthday Bumble! Hope your best friend Mary Ellen did something really special for you today!!!
Turkey in her dinner and new balls lol
I'm new to planners. You really like Tul. Do they smear? I'm bad at rubbing while I write!
I don’t know that they smear all that much, but I guess I’m careful though
Semi-related, but I use fountain pens in my general life and was really surprised to find out HP paper is fountain pen friendly.
oh, I used your link and code!
Great video...
What pens write on washi tape well?
Archer and Olive acrylograph pens would be ideal. Sharpie would be second choice
I know you didn’t mention the Sharpie S note...but I was wondering if you have tried those and if so what do you think about them? Thanks!! Love your video!!!
I do have one. I’m not a big fan for some reason!
I personally am not a fan of the Sharpie pen.
Very informative
Enjoyed it 😉
Do the TUL pens smear? Black and colored?
The Stabilo is 0.4. It’s written on the barrel.
I've never tried the Muji and I suspect I'd love the feel but Dear me I could not manage the design/look. Too plasticky and cheap to look at.
Watching this has taught me that you and I agree on all things pens! As you find new pens that you love - please let us know!
Black pen names at 16 :57
Love Tul pens but they smear very easily. 😖
Semi-related, but I use fountain pens in my general life and was really surprised to find out HP paper is fountain pen friendly.
