    0:25 is what we call a scramble. If you go out of bounds in freestyle that is one point for 'passivity'. They awarded mongolia the takedown for two points. The coaches were disputing the takedown. In freestyle, if the two periods end in a tie, the match is decided by 'criteria', which means the wrestler with the most recent takedown wins

    The “last point wins” rule is the most ridiculous and uncompetitive rule in sports history. They got an equal amount of points meaning they had an equal amount of skill. Either go into overtime or declare a tie

      It makes a little sense I guess. Wrestling is kind of a fight and the person getting the last point for pinning the other one down is like winning the fight. Nonetheless there should be tiebreaker.

      To outsiders it seems like an odd move but it was dedication. The crowds response gave avenue for influence to judges. After that he had no choice because there were no other pathways and he was willing to do anything for his athlete.

    The tie breaking rule has been changed btw. This Olympics, if a match ended in a tie, the wrestler with the most take downs was awarded the victory.

      Pretty sure they prioritize the wrestler with the highest scoring move, and if both wrestlers have an equal amount of high scoring moves they see who has the second highest scoring move and so on. Only after the wrestlers are tied in terms of points and they have equal amount of scoring moves do they look at who scored last. All this can be overruled if a wrestler has 2 cautions.

    Wrestling is HUGE in Mongolia. I worked for a company years back, whose President flew to Mongolia for a business deal. He was a high school wrestling coach on the side. When he got there, they found out and he had to put on a show and wrestle some dudes before they would talk business with him. Absolutely true story.

      @@SpartanArmy117 In the UFC they use the phrase "don't leave it to the judges", because the decisions they make can sometimes be completely ridiculous, and they almost never go back on decisions once they are made.
      All athletes have to know ahead of time that refs and judges are sometimes going to be complete morons, and you have to take such decisions out of their hands completely and win beyond doubt. In this case he left some doubt by acting a fool before the match was done, and he lost.

      @Apple Account s No but it was passivity. If a person does not engage or at the very least is planning to - that is passivity. This controversy in this situation isnt really that blue got awarded the point, but rather that, thanks to dumbs wrestling rules, that point ended up giving him the win. The mongolian was obviously refusing to engage -which by deffinition falls under passivity, which happens to be against the rules of wrestling. But its dumb as shit that he end up losing the entire thing based on it rather then like in most sports you'd have something like overtime to get out of a draw.

There still was 10 seconds in the clock but hes running from his opponent while celebrating and the opponent had plenty of time to throw him out of the ring. IMO thats more than enough reasons to give away a point.

      @Apple Account s dude, it just shows lack of sportsmanship and professionalism for not finishing till the end and celebrating early. It aint rocket science. Rules are rules. Try doing that in other fighting matches like UFC or especially Muay Thai, not only will u get penalised, ull lose respect of other muay thai fighters and audience because u simply lack sportsmanship and professionalism.

      It's STILL called sportsmanship- and the Monogolian set up his OWN defeat by being a smug asswipe and celebrating and running away from the other wrestler for the last few moments of the match.
      What a stupid thing to say that because im not an Olypmic athelete i cant know the level of YEEEEEARS of work and dedication it takes. When u DO put that much effort and time and training to GEWT to the Olympics- maybe u should also make sure u FOLLOW THE RULE of the Olympics.....and maybe ur coaches shouldn't act like 4 year olds having a tantrum.

      @@StefanTonioSampson The judges were bullshitters. Any person worth their own salt would be mad.
      Its like in an bodybuilding tournament, they chose one guy as the first place, he was receiving the check and the trophy when suddenly the judges made an annoucement for him and guy who came in second to return to the stage so they could judge again(they were also rude in doing it, like it was his fault).
      The dude did the only thing anyone with some ball would and simply got out of the stage and walked straight to the exit.

    Wrestled my entire life. I’m division 1. For the US team. In fact, I was at this match hahaha. The crowd was going crazy when they started stripping because they knew they were watching a robbery. You can’t call passivity within the 5 second mark. That is why the Mongolian celebrated the referee broke the rule and gave the losing wrestler the win. It was a bit controversy because earlier in the tournament the same wrestler got called out on the fact that he kept getting the same referee and the referee continuously gave calls in his favor. There was an investigation on it. Olympic wrestling will forever because one of the most corrupted Olympic sports and I have no idea why lol.

      @@michaelsmith2157 little rules like this, out of bounds etc change often In wrestling, and there’s also 3 styles of wrestling, but currently in most rule sets if I’m correct, if the ref feels like you haven’t been offensive enough, he’ll warn you, if you continue not to attempt attacks, he will call you for passivity, then you have thirty seconds to make a clear attack, generally a leg attack or ‘shot’.. if you continue to be defensive instead he gives the opponent one point.

    Ohhh my old wrestling coach would’ve had a field day with me if I celebrated too early…. He always used to say to show the upmost sportsmanship in no matter what the outcome would be….greatest wrestling coach I’ve ever had he taught me so much

      My coaches are the opposite. They incourage us to talk trash and do the craziest things to pass your opponents off. During a match I was winning by 3 points and as soon that the match ended I starting doing the jack off motion and exploding on the dudes face, he got mad but didn't do shiii. I look at my coaches they both were just laughing they ass off.

The lesson we had to learn was to always keep going, cuz it’ll fuck u over.       @@rawsy4769 it was more so that no matter how hard he tried to engage his opponent, his opponent(MGL) already had zero intention of continuing the contest. You could see in the way he was basically sidestepping around in circles. Let's say that they were both equally passive, then the first one to start being passive and disengage from the match before its conclusion was the Mongolian, and in this case, the ruling by the judges is still considered appropriate. They can't give both players a penalty because it is sort of like cause and effect IMO, its like no matter how aggressive you are, if your opponent takes an ultra defensive stance/position/mindset, you will not be able to engage.

      That isn't really how it works. A push out is worth one point and a takedown is worth two points. If one wrestler has 3 pushouts and the other has a pushout and a takedown, the second guy wins on criteria because of the higher point move. It isn't the most recent.

I've seen people lose for this exact behavior, or running off the mat after they got a turn on the opponent to give them the higher score. You have to engage.

    Honestly I like how the competitors are both super respectful to each other cause they know it’s not the competitor that makes the final decision, so they have nothing to be upset at each other for. They both did their best and the judges made the call.

    Balls! Not gonna lie, I love this. Coach has his wrestlers back and you gotta respect that loyalty. The assistant coach who clearly didn't want to go down that rabbit hole had his colleagues back by making it a duo show. I respect that unity, loyalty, and that passion.
