For its size, it did the job and those who see it was impressed by it. If you are a DJ who wants a powerful yet portable controller as backup or primary for your events, the DDJ 800 is the one you should get. Begining DJs should upgrade to the 800 instead of the FLX6 for mobile gigs. After 3 years, I still enjoy playing it.
Since this video, I upgraded my DDJ 400 to the DDJ 800. I still enjoy playing this controller. Even though I have not taken it out in gigs (because of Covid), I have used it on my online shows and streaming events. I haven't received anything negative and my DJ partner loves playing on it. I am looking forward to tale it on the road when things open up. Even though I will play on Pioneer club-standard CDJs and mixer, I will take as a backup. I recommend this controller over the FLX6

I'm a little late coming to this controller (and trying to decide if they will update it early next year). But I have to say that this is probably one of the best reviews on it I've seen yet. Thank you for being so comprehensive in this review!
Really helpful overview of all the features in the DDJ800. I just got mine today and this was a great guide to get me started. I love my DDJ 800! I think this is the most affordable way to have an almost identical layout to a standard club setup at home for practice and working in Rekordbox. I also have two turntables hooked up to it, and I love that the faders and EQs work for the line/phono inputs as a standalone unit. I often just want to listen to records and it's nice to not have to connect my laptop.
Thanks for the really clear overview. I just want to point out that at 11:30 you say the difference between the songs' keys is "plus one semitone," but that number is not semitones (a difference of one semitone between keys would actually be the worst sounding match, and a difference of five or seven semitones is the smoothest-I know, music theory is confusing, but there's a logic to it, but no space to explain it here). The number on the panel is a measure of how many pitches are different between two keys (which typically have seven pitches out of a maximum of 12 distinct scale pitches). So "±1" is a smooth difference because there are still six pitches in common between the two songs, whereas "±5" would be an abrupt contrast because only two pitches (out of seven) would carry over from one song to the next.
So thorough and organized. Big ups to you for all the work you put into these videos to help our dj game. I’m definitely gunna take your online classes!!

I was deciding between the two and picked a used 800 in good condition simply because Traktor software is reportedly (mainly via various Reddit chats) isn’t as good at analyzing non-electronic music as well hearing rumors the company may not be as invested in the software as Pioneer with Rekordbox. My two cents , best of luck with it :)
Hi. I have 1 question, I have ddj 400 right now. As I take it for gigs I have to attach a external mixer, as alone it dont give that good output.. So if I buy ddj 800 do I have to attach external mixer????
Can anyone help? Recently purchased the 800, and feeling my way around, was playing around with cue points - how do I reset the analysed cue points back to default that rekordbox added when it analysed a song? Cheers in advance
What do you think? Is this controller still a good choice? The DDJ FLX6-GT is missing a few features and the DDJ-FLX10 is too expensive, so there's not really much choice given that Pioneer hasn't updated this product.
I own still the DDJ 1000 , even when there's already a ''Upgrade'' Version called FLX10 .. But in Terms of using the new Stem Functions i just remap some unused Knobs and Pad Mode for having that new ''FLX10'' Features ... But in all other Terms like the standalone Mixer , Color Fx , etc i highly recomend to get a 2nd Hand DDJ 1000 over the DDJ 800 with his negative Limitations , If the FLX 10 is too expensive for you . ( Even if this Unit have some nice upgraded Features that i miss a bit on my DDJ 1000 to be honest ( of course they could add this little Things with a Firmware Update on the DDJ 1000 , such as showing the 3 Band Waveform on the JOG Display or showing the Artwork etc I'm sure they could add that still to the DDJ-1000 with a FW Updfate but as the DDJ -1000 is already a Dino Controler for Pioneer i've lost my hope for that . But anyway , there are also a bunch of Features that Pioneer still not apply on the new FLX 10 which should fit more in the new Pioneer Club Standard Corner ,, such as a Sound Coler Parameter Knob but they add 6 CFX now on the FLX 10 but still no Parameter Knob 🤦♂🙄 for me thats an Essential Software Thing which should be a solid Control Feature on a Rekordbox Essential Midi Controller Unit or it should be possible to just midi map that Knob BUT NO you just can't do that what a shame ... , So No background lighting SHIFT Button same fail as on the DDJ 1000, 800, 400 etc .. very unpracticeable at dark environments 🤦♂, No Pitch Fader 0 % green Light , .etc etc ... So try too get a 2nd Hand DDJ 1000 instead :)
Hmmmm In my opinion it kinda depends on how important the Club layout is to you, because the DDJ 800 defenitely got a more Club like Layout. But with the DDJ 800 you loose some Features of the RR like the Sequencer for example... Of course you get some more new Features like CFX all the Key Shifting and Syncing things and the Displays in the Jogs. But the most important part is the Price. Espacially if you got your RR last month I think the DDJ 800 is just to expensive. My Recommendation would be to use the RR and if you get that good that you have to be able to use the CFX and 4 Decks for example, buy the DDJ 1000. Thats the Gear I use and its pretty good. Then you got CFX, 4 Decks, Displays in the Jogs, the Magvel Fader and things like that. Just save the Money for the DDJ 800 and buy a DDJ 1000 later if you need more features. I hope I helped you with that. If you got some more questions just text me via Instagram ( @lumitrn )
Is it thrue that these sound-FX"s are better sounding than on the DDJ-RR?and are the performance-pads as fast...as reactive like on the RX2?or not..?thanx
Great video!!! I was wondering ....when I open Sample mode (on either player) and add a sample, will i have access to use the platter to scratch that same sample when queued (or presses) ? Or is the sample only manipulated by turning the volume on it up and down?
Nice video! It's very much a software dependent controller with no hardware effects and all that. So whereas it'll probably never work with Serato, it almost looks designed with Virtual DJ in mind too (near perfect feature set match), so I'm sure it'll become natively supported with a few other software brands. In other words: You won't necessarily be stuck with Rekordbox if you buy this. You probably just won't be able to use Serato But yes - it should have been $699 like the DDJ-RR, which was the previous semi-pro 2 channel Rekordbox controller
unfortunately you did not talk about the tempo range in ddj 1000 vid, am i doing something wrong in the way it jumps from plus tempos up and down also the crossfader , how do u set it so it is totally normal with sound heightening in transitions??? #helpplease
You have to change the settings. Go to analyze and then click the normal one, then analyze a song and it shouldn't jump. For the Crossfader you also have to change the settings, there is a button like a circle and its blue and try it out
@@crimatix2535 ok thanks very much i will look into it... i have tried to change the settings but once the crossfader is in the middle, its fine but it is when the switching from deck 1 to 2 at each end volume seems to peak, still cant work it out...

on another note for Pioneer: Cmon.. still using laptops? DEnon prime 4 has now stand alones are we are still making laptop dependent mixers? lets step it up Pioneer. im sure you've got some answer to DEnon aside from the DDJ RX2
My ddj 400 is lights up for a few seconds and goes dim please sir how to solve this problem please help me sir
change power cable/usb port
Can you use the jog wheel to cue up your track as well? Or is that done only from the cue button?
Hi, I want to start mixing but I don't know if I should get the Pioneer DJ DDJ-800 or the Native Traktor Kontrol S4 MK3? It would be my first DJ console and in the future I'd like to play in the clubs and events. What would you recommend ?
I was deciding between the two and picked a used 800 in good condition simply because Traktor software is reportedly (mainly via various Reddit chats) isn’t as good at analyzing non-electronic music as well hearing rumors the company may not be as invested in the software as Pioneer with Rekordbox. My two cents , best of luck with it :)
Definitely a nice upgrade since I own a DDJ-SB2
DJ KYLOWW DDJSR2 is a decent upgrade but i agree this is more professional I’m just not a fan of Rekordbox so I’ll have to pass on this.
Hi. I have 1 question, I have ddj 400 right now. As I take it for gigs I have to attach a external mixer, as alone it dont give that good output.. So if I buy ddj 800 do I have to attach external mixer????
What about using the slicer mode? How do you get that set up?
Can this be used with an iPad Pro? I don't really want to buy a laptop. Thanks. Or any other alternatives?
DDJ-800 isn’t class compliant, so it cannot be used with an iPad.
How do you turn the crossfader off?
did you ever get DVS to work with DDJ-800? with 1000 it works perfect.
F
Can anyone help?
Recently purchased the 800, and feeling my way around, was playing around with cue points - how do I reset the analysed cue points back to default that rekordbox added when it analysed a song?
Cheers in advance
is it possible to connect a ddj 400 to the ddj 800 and control 4 decks?
I wanna know also!
Yeah, i just wait for your review, very nice review, thanks Crossfader
But anyway , there are also a bunch of Features that Pioneer still not apply on the new FLX 10 which should fit more in the new Pioneer Club Standard Corner ,, such as a Sound Coler Parameter Knob but they add 6 CFX now on the FLX 10 but still no Parameter Knob 🤦♂🙄 for me thats an Essential Software Thing which should be a solid Control Feature on a Rekordbox Essential Midi Controller Unit or it should be possible to just midi map that Knob BUT NO you just can't do that what a shame ... , So No background lighting SHIFT Button same fail as on the DDJ 1000, 800, 400 etc .. very unpracticeable at dark environments 🤦♂, No Pitch Fader
0 % green Light , .etc etc ... So try too get a 2nd Hand DDJ 1000 instead :)
I bought my Ddj RR last month, should change for ddj800???
Hmmmm
In my opinion it kinda depends on how important the Club layout is to you, because the DDJ 800 defenitely got a more Club like Layout.
NO! RR looks much better :))
Nope. Enjoy RR until you have money for a DDJ 1000 in the future
LumitronHD Tnks a lot!!! In fact the layout is what we see in first place in this new controller!
Can u plug a USB into the decks or does it have to be a computer
He explains it’s all from around the 30 minute mark
Is it thrue that these sound-FX"s are better sounding than on the DDJ-RR?and are the performance-pads as fast...as reactive like on the RX2?or not..?thanx
How to do instant doubles in DDJ 1000 ( what is the button combo) ?
double press the load button on the other deck. you have to double press pretty quick though i think.
Can you use FX on a channel using a turntable with a record if the controller is still plugged into the computer??
yes
I’m deciding to get the DDJ 800
hello can the controller also be connected to an ipad or Android tablet ?!
This or the Xdj rr (standalone)? Pros and cons?
Great video!!! I was wondering ....when I open Sample mode (on either player) and add a sample, will i have access to use the platter to scratch that same sample when queued (or presses) ? Or is the sample only manipulated by turning the volume on it up and down?
Hey. Are the phono preamps as bad as they are on the 1000?
You probably just won't be able to use Serato
But yes - it should have been $699 like the DDJ-RR, which was the previous semi-pro 2 channel Rekordbox controller
Hi is the DDJ- SR2 better
did you say the ddj doesn't work with serato??
unfortunately you did not talk about the tempo range in ddj 1000 vid,
am i doing something wrong in the way it jumps from plus tempos up and down
also the crossfader ,
how do u set it so it is totally normal with sound heightening in transitions???
#helpplease
Press the master tempo button
You have to change the settings. Go to analyze and then click the normal one, then analyze a song and it shouldn't jump. For the Crossfader you also have to change the settings, there is a button like a circle and its blue and try it out
@@crimatix2535 ok thanks very much i will look into it... i have tried to change the settings
but once the crossfader is in the middle, its fine but it is when the switching from deck 1 to 2
at each end volume seems to peak, still cant work it out...
@crossfader...does this have capture like the DDJ RX...and do you need to subscribe to rekordbox for version 6...
No need to subscribe for RB6, it unlocks with the controller. You can record your mix inside Rekordbox
hi mate one question Im new in the DJ world im a beginner
i would like to buy one of these , what do you recommend for a beginner the DDJ 800 OR XDJ RR thank you
I know both equipments are different and what is the best for my experience
thank you .
and great video
This or Denon mc 7000? Maybe some comparison in the future? :)
what is your recomendation... thsi one DDj-800 or ddj-SX2 ? thanks! great video!
Can anyone tell me if the DDJ 800 can play 3 decks at the same time? I'm confused by the deck 1-3 and 2-4 switches when there's only two channels.
Thank you for your help and learning about the controller 👌👏
Can u use it with Algoriddim djay pro? I use tidal for my music.
You can use the DDJ-800 with Algoriddim djay Pro and a Mac, but jog wheel displays, Color FX except filter and Beat FX are not supported.
so in all honesty, would you buy this or save more for the DDJ-1000?
They don't have ddj 800 for pioneer huh? I have serato and I'm thinking about upgrading to ddj800.
This is a really good review. Thank you!
Glad it was helpful!
Did Pioneer stopped the produktion of the DDJ-RR?
gixxerboy555 yes, this one is meant to replace it
@@tomdenhaese237 so sad...just like Pioneer replaced the RX .. Nederlands? :(
@@tomdenhaese237 ok bedankt, maar ik hou meer van het type RX ...RR .. dus toch snel een RR kopen.. :)
@@tomdenhaese237 Were did you get this info from? Pioneer website still has RR as current controller. My local dealer says RR stays in production. Plus RZ is also available despite the fact that DDJ 1000 exists.
My local distributor gave an enormous discount for the RR. He told me it will be replaced by the DDJ-800!
Can you showcase the connections?
Thanks for the review.. when this dropped I was hella curious.. now I'm stoked being a ddj-rb owner.. looks like a natural progression to the 800.. instead of going to the holy grail of the 1000
Dude de 800 is way too high price imo just save up a little more and get the 1000
Does the dvs work normally ? And does the color effects and pads work?
What is the aux connectivity input for?!
its disappointing that there isn't duel usb inputs.. only main key feature that is missing on this unit.
Being a Serato user I would like to buy a DDJ-800 but do not know much about Rekordbox, can you tell me if Rekordbox is as easy to use as Serato and does it have as good features.
RB sucks and costs subscription, do not support this greedy company
Is there a way to set the slicer on Rekordbox to the pads on the controller?!?
Thanks for the review, clear explanation
Hi guys, I want to upgrade from my Ddj 400, should i buy Ddj RR or Ddj 800? Help!
Just bought this but my laptop doesn't take the audio driver..why?? It sucks mann..give me solution..make a video on how to connect this to recordbox and laptop.
I would recommend joining a Facebook group full of users who could answer this.
@@mr.honesty5115 I ve fixed it now..
@@djbhaveshvaghela oh ok sweet
Thanks, just got mine (£570 new) and your vid is really useful. Cheers.
Glad it helped!
Can you save sample banks like on traktors remix decks?
If you don't already know, yes you can (mmm reminds me of someone). There are 4 banks of 8 sample slots so 32.
Has anyone figured a way to fully get DVS working fully? This would make or break getting a DDJ800 for me as I already have turntables - be nice to incorporate them in a controller set up!
do condenser mic work for the ddj-800?
Hi there. I’ve not long started and have been using a WeGo4 to practise but wanted to upgrade to something with more features. I’ve been looking at the DDJ-800 and the DDJ-SR2. What you recommend? Bearing in mind I have not used serato or rekordbox yet.
They needed to make one for serato.. just like the 1000. Im actually back to using my vestax vci 400.
