- Muldrotha has a lot of potentials. But could also become a trap. In this video, I go over concepts of how to build this big elemental for cEDH gameplay.
At first glance, it might look like a typical normal casual EDH deck. But it is more of an interactive win condition.

I have a CEDH muldrotha and it's kinda a red herring, not much graveyard play.
I try to do thassa/consult or witherbloom/smog as quick as possible.
Muldrotha is plan B after getting stopped I can try again, and again. Or grind a bit.

I was just talking about this the other day, muldrotha is definitely pretty tricky to build around. It's tough, finding a balance between graveyard synergy, removal, sac outlets and just general sultai good stuff. I try to include stuff that'll work even without muldrotha. The deck is never considered finished, it's always a work in progress. I really like it.

@@agent00puffball Right on! I'm really enjoying mine. A recent game I had a combo going with gitrog, tatyova, world shaper and ashnod's altar. I was drawing and dumping a bunch of lands and bringing them back into play every turn, it was awesome lol
heartless summoning helps get her out early and the neg 1 neg 1. helps loop e witness, perilous myr, wood elfs, spell seeker. oppression is a great enchantment for her too, everyone is top decking in no time ahhh the value

Have you played against muldrotha recently? It’s displacer kitten+led loops for infinite mana and because you are getting a new muldrotha you can play every permanent in your gy as well.

Uhh, yeah! It's a really cool commander! It showed up quite a lot years ago (a guy built it and it was really good. We're a casual group tho)

Thanks for the video. I have this combo in my Muldrotha deck. Command Beacon is great also since you can get around that command zone tax. I'm also thinking about putting In the eye of chaos in my deck.
I run command beacon in mine too. It's especially good since you can sac it to play muldrotha without the tax, then save it for next time muldrotha dies and sac it and replay it and you never have to pay more than 6 mana to cast your commander

I've been messing around with Muldrotha for a while now- sadly I'm kind of terrible at deck building so I always fall into the same bad traps of a bad deck builder.
My first take on her was general sultai goodness. IE lots of toolbox cards and misc things. The problem then was my overall lack of understanding on what Muldrotha WANTS to do. I couldn't see the avenue of little plays and found myself doing random stuff without knowing why.
My later build was a heavy dimir focused mill theme. I want cards in my grave, so why not mill my opponent's as well? This build had 2 major problems. The first being that I'm arch enemy right away because people HATE being milled. The other issue is that unless I'm milling you out this turn, the deck had little interaction that actually dealt with problems already in play.
So now I'm tracking down a few cards first but will go back to the roots, really look at what she wants to do and build fresh. As you pointed out, she has a fat 6/6 body so having a voltron option in the deck seems worthwhile. Having some different forms of "control" sound good too. A handful of "take control of target creature" effects sound great. Gilded Drake for example. I'll stay low to the ground with my 2 mana and take your big 8 mana boss card.
But the biggest thing I'm trying to keep in mind is the thesis point of your video; What cards are good on their own? How can I build the deck to do muldrotha things, without relying COMPLETELY on Muldrotha herself?
The only down side to toolbox decks and the likes is that your quick to run out of deck space.
I really like the idea Myth Unbound + Command Beacon + Muldrotha. Long term you end up being able to cast her from your hand for a mere 3 mana. And worst case you're simply never being stuck with commander tax. Win-win.
I find very interesting that you include Umezawa's Jitte in this list... What are your thoughts about it?
Did you find it an useful card for this build? To which creatures do you tipically equip it and on which ability do you tipically spend the counters?
it was in generall alot better back then. When there where creatures you could kill to stop combos. Now its just a grindy card that kill commanders. That part is good but not good to be included anymore I guess. I think I should cut it from the list.
But its the -1/-1 to creatures that you use. Really good card to kill commanders with!

I've been loving Kess that I've been building on TappedOut a lot. Muldrotha is in better colors and more flexible so I might try her next.

Hey man, can you do a 'The First Sliver' build, from Modern Horizons? It seems it'll be replacing Niv-Mizzet/Tazri in a lot of FC decks.
You should play anvil of bogardan and chains of mephistopheles. Since your hand is your graveyard then you dont mind having no cards in your hand. And also can lock down your opponents. Chains and anvil both have 2 cmc.
I forgot the chains of mephistopheles. It seas play in so few decks that I keep forgetting that it exist. It is totally going into this build. Thank you.

@@TheSpiritombsableye except you dont need muldrotha for anvil and chains combo. Its just an addition since anvil alone can get you more cards and discard cards which you do t really care and so does chains. Both of those cards are good for cedh coz the cmc is low and at the same time you can make them mill or discard their combo piece. Anvil and chains is already your combo and its a lot better if you have muldrotha in play. Once you have muldroltha in play you can cast anvil and or chains from hand or from graveyard since anvil is artifact and chains is an enchantment imagine if you cast windfall at the same turn with those cards in play.

im surprised i didnt see storm cauldron in the list. its a stax peice and you can discard cards by pickung up lands and/or discard lands to play them from grave
Been playing muldrotha ever since the card came out, going as far as to build a second deck since my first one was getting to strong for my playgroup. I found that when building the deck one easily overvalues permanents such as seal of doom or executioners capsule, but those really should not be included, they are too weak. Lions eye diamond loop or staxing your opponents out is more than enough to win. To that end, contamination and mindslicer are great cards to have. Other than that, flash hulk is a great fit.
My combo lines usually involve sidisi, undead vizier, you can win with her etb and 2 mana left.
I am not really a cEDH player, I don't own any of the fast mana that would push this deck towards being truly competitive, but It's great fun to play just as is.
Intresting. 2 questions.
1) I can agree with cuting seal of doom. 3 mana is a bit much. But I kinda like executioners capsual. 1 mana but could be 3 mana if you use it the same turn. But I usaly cast and have it redy and will pay the 2 mana later when I have to. So 1 mana and then 2 mana in later turn cycle. But sometimes 3 mana at the same time. So fare it has been working fine. And you might be right to cut it. But what conclusion did you get to?
2) What do you find with undead vizier? What is your combo? Dosen't a normal tutor work, demonic tutor?
cEDH TV so sidisi, undead vizier is a one card combo with Muldrotha on the battlefield, which normal tutor can be if you have intuition in your deck. Sadly I don’t have intuition.
Anyway, the sidisi line is as follows: sidisi enters, sacs to itself, finds Animate dead. Animate dead cast targeting sidisi, sac to herself again, finding LED this time. Play, crack for black, play again out of the yard, sac for blue. Now cast animate dead again, this time finding Phantasmal image. From here just cast the image and do the usual combo for infinite mana, and then find a kill with sidisi.
Combo is pretty mana hungry, first get sidisi on board, then cast animate dead, but winning with one card is nice.
cEDH TV the problem I see with capsule is that it only kills non-black creature, and cost a total of 3 mana for doing so. It’s also on board, so everybody sees it coming and can try to play around it. I usually don’t have too many problems with creatures anyway, aggro decks can get stopped by glacial chasm and spore frog of need be, and plaguecrafter and friends as well as pernicious deed do a good job of cleaning up.
SIDISI: This isn't that bad. Or well it is a lot of mana like you said. 7 if I understood correctly? But in a stax deck I guess that is possible achive.
CAPSULE: I agree on the 3 mana. None black isn't that big of a problem I believe. But you might play more vs black creatures. The only black creatures I run into are Tymna, Zur in general.

I dont think so. Saddly you need that card to make that combo work.
I prefer to think of it as two black yo activate cabal pit since you are not using the land for Mana

No I think it is a bit to expensive. It is cool. But 6 mana is a lot.
I see that you removed smokestack from the list, was it just not doing what you initially intended or did you find something better to replace it with?
I'm currently crazy about dark depth combo with lands. This seems like a very viable option
They printed many good stax planeswalkers for this deck, including Ashiok, who draws you 4 cards a turn and stax your opponents pretty much for the entire game because you just replay it over again

I the card went into a laundry machine. My friend forgot all his cards in his pants when he was a kid. I bought them from him. This one wasen't that damaged. Other cards are ... gone!

Ive been playing with a muldrotha as a commander for quite a while and one card i find difficult to deal with is Sigarda, Host of Herons. Any advice on how to improve the deck against this type of spells?
Kinda yes. When you notice that your opponents arent stopping you from wining with some form of combo. Go for your combo faster. That card won't deal with muldrotha typical combos. That is my suggestion.

Jodah, Archmage Eternal might be the best commander to handle the spells high CMC. And running Cast Through Time can repeat the process, if necessary.
Why wouldn’t you put Glissa the Traitor in the deck? Doesn’t she have equal utility to Silas Renn?

I love the pox archetype, do you think Muldrotha is the best cEDH general for a Pox style stax deck or are there better?
I don't know. This is an archetype I am trying to figure out. Kess is also a strong kandidat.
Can you build a deck with Ghoulcaller Gisa ? It's not very played but I just love this commander and would really like to see all possibilities about this deck
She isn't that good, however. Sorry. Gisa is more of a casual commander. And I am only focusing on competitive EDH.

That is a bit hard. I only have one deck assembled. I have all my cards in binders. And only 1 demonic tutor. So I take a deck apart. And put another together.

How do you feel about contamination in this deck? It’s won me so many games and seems to hinder opponents way more than myself when I play it.
It should work. It works great in Meren because Meren cost 4 mana. Muldrotha cost 6 so that could be a problem. But you can build your deck more focused around the card for sure. And I think it could be worth it. Contamination is a good card.

Najeela is the short answer. My favorit cAsual deck is with Valakut. I want that deck to be good for cEDH but it isen't. One day maybe. So currently different Najeela hulk builds is my favorit. PST is also close to my heart.
Why do you choose not to play artifacts like mana vault and grim monolith to get muldrotha out quickly? Although they provide no synergy isn’t it valuable to get muldrotha out 3 turns sooner?
No it is not worth a slot when then you have no way to use those mana rocks again efficiently. At least LED synergizes.

my first commader deck is muldrotha. and i never cast my commander before i have like 8-10 mana. yo need to get value when you cast muldrotha. because it dies fast so if you cast it when you have 6 mana and nothing else its just 6/6 that dies and now costs 8 mana. and 10 is the maximum i have ever payed for it. its too expensive to cast multiple times so you have to get something else ready then get muldrotha out get some value and maybe get something to loop
and enchantments and planeswalkers are normaly one time things and because of that they can be very powerful. and muldrotha you can get them back to repeat that powerful interaction so those kind of cards are best with muldrotha

It is a 1v1 without commander format that have existed for some time now. Everything is legal but they use a point system. Black lotus cost 4 points. You have 7 points. Sol ring cost 2 points.

Not as a pox commander. But that commander is an eternal witness in the command zone for Living death. That is actually a good combo deck. An egg deck.It becoms as a two card combo.

@@sh037t No I don't. But its not hard. Any black spell that brings ever creature you have in your graveyard into play. Then phyrexian alter. Then random black creatures you like.
You use the commander to return the living death spell to your hand.
You can win with something like Gonti lord of luxary. I have been thinking of making a deck tech on this commander for some time. But I don't own the card.

What about an erebos cedh? Maybe control with enchantment? Is it possible?
Well... I waited for something non-stax-build. I mean that stax isn't very good idea in muldrotha, 'cause it's too slow (ha-ha), needs lot of enablers and can't be a potential win condition. Many stax pieces are very situational and have too expensive manacost for their effects.
LED combo is cool, but needs graveyard full of something that can potentially win the game. Looting effects like careful study, frantic search and "baby" jace (who also may be a second snapcaster) are great in this case, but not showed in video at all.
Secondly, where are shriekmaw, pernicious deed, mindslicer, glen elendra archmage, seedborn muse (possibly) and etc., if you're building a control/stax deck? They're really good cards in muldrotha, which better than seal of doom, engineered explosives and delirium skeins.
Thirdly, why didn't you show muldrotha and command beacon synergy? It can save the game sometimes.
Forthly, where is protection for muldrotha like spellskite or sylvan safekeeper or siren stormtamer at the worst? Even stax-build doesn't guarantee the safety of the commander.
And in conclusion - why didn't you mentioned at all rasaketh, vorinclex, jin-gitaxias, mikaeus, pattern of rebirth, ashnod's altar, defense of the heart, entomb, diabolic intent etc. etc. etc.? That's in fact almost best cards in muldrotha.
Thats a long question. I will try and answer it when I have time. But I can say this to begin with.
I can answer some of this as this has been brought up before. This isn't a typical deck tech channel, nor a typical cEDH channel. This is a channel to introduce people into cEDH. If this helped segue you into cEDH Muldrotha, then it did its job. But it seems you have more ideas, thus you aren't the target audience for this video or likely the channel.
I know the answer won't or shouldn't be as callous if he answered the question.
