Tragic Details About The Foo Fighters

- It's hard to imagine a famous rock band with a happier image than the Foo Fighters, but it's by no means the complete thing, as they've had plenty of drama and tragic incidents. Today, we'll take a look at the tragic real-life story of the Foo Fighters.
In 1994, Nirvana broke up in the wake of Kurt Cobain's death. Dave Grohl told Louder in 2018 that he was at a loss after the grunge group came to an end, though it was not for lack of options, saying,
"I was asked to join a couple of other bands as the drummer, but I just couldn't imagine doing that because it would just remind me of being in Nirvana. Every time I sat down at a drum set, I would think of that."
After contemplating his options, and even considering quitting music altogether, Grohl remembered that Stewart Copeland of The Police, a fellow drummer, had developed his own solo project called Klark Kent. This allowed him to make music without the expectations that came with being The Police. Grohl chose a similar approach, and became the Foo Fighters, writing and playing all the songs for the project's self-titled debut album by himself. For live show purposes, he recruited bass player Nate Mendell and drummer William Goldsmith, as well as former Nirvana touring guitarist Pat Smear.
Grohl initially found the frontman role difficult, but the album came out in 1995 and was a success. Just like that, the Foo Fighters were an esteemed band.

Which Foo Fighters album is your favorite?
Wasting light
@@Ryan-zj3ql agreed
ALL OF THEM!!!! LOL
Sometimes I'm wondering how you do that, cause I kinda always regret watching these videos, because they make me feel strange about my favourite bands and I always have weird feelings whenever put them on. And you're doing all the research for that and honestly if I had so much reality in my life I'd fall right back into depression. I'm impressed that you can stand all that.
And my fav album is probably the colour and the shape
I was at one of those broken leg shows and I can honestly say, even sitting down Dave Grohl is the most energetic and greatest frontman ever
Liam Gallagher is the king of Frontman and Dave has said this himself
@@scarygarey3271 cool?
Same. Somehow the throne made it more intense than normal
@@scarygarey3271 is this Liam?
Freddie Mercury is the best frontman ever, not Dave, although Dave Grohl IS cool, too
It's one day after Taylor's passing. Can't believe he has left this life so abruptly. He along with Dave and the Foo's gave us so much. Can't imagine the pain the Hawkins family is going through right now. Rock on, Taylor.
taylor will live in our hearts.
I think he's one of the best drummers in the world who also can sing play guitar and bass
one of the best musicians of all time but people are just gonna realize that when he's gone
Drummer PAP SMEAR
@@CasteloBrancoG u do realise foo fighters are one of the biggest bands in the world right lol he’s hardly a cult musician
Dude's a mad lad music making machine.
Maybe best songwriter of the past twenty years but there’s literally drummers out there so much for sophisticated then grohl will ever be. Drummers that could out drum all his songs. He’s a smash drummer not really technical but then again the best of anything is always about opinion
Pat Was a MEMBER of Nirvana not just a "Touring" guitar player
Correct. He was officially announced as Nirvana's new second guitar player by the frontman himself on camera.
He's the one who introduced Ghrol to Nirvana.
Sadly, when they were inducted into the Rock and Roll hall of fame, Smear was there, but not inducted or honored.
@@curtiswilson3569 Neither was Chad like at ALL. I think that's bullshit.
Debatable. He never played on any of their studio recordings or was involved in composing any of their music, but was listed as a band member (as opposed to "additional musician") on all the live albums he plays on, and appeared in most publicity shots. But then again neither did official member Jason Everman.
You forgot about Dave’s addiction to coffee
FRESH POOOTS
FRESH POoOOOoOTSS
FRESSHHHHH POOOOOTTTTSSSSSSSS
FRESH POOOOOOOOOOOOOOTTTTTTTTTTSSSSSSSS
CELEBRATE MEEE!
I remember the first time I watched a nirvana video and noticed "hey isnt that the guy from foo fighters" .... mind blowing
Dave is smart..... we all know they are his songs...... but after the first album most are listed as band songs giving all members songwriters credit..... and royalties......that's how you keep a band together for 25 years
Dont forget your booster chief..
He was the “turning key” which made Nirvana fly from underground to mainstream. No surprise he is that much picky with his own band!
Its line saying i was born when i was young😂
My advice
Watch Foo Fighters: "Back and Forth"
Basically almost everything from this is from that documentary
It’s the Cliff Notes 📝 version of FF: Back & Forth which is on UA-cam. Don’t watch this, watch that!
Where can I watch it? It's no longer in Netflix
When Dave gives you his musical opinion, you should probably just Grohl with it.
😂👏
😂🤣😂🤣
Clever! Hats off to ya!
And the triple gene therapy.. lol Daves behest!
Why because Dave knows Rock N Grohl
My favourite band. Dave Grohl really is my hero, he's been there for me since the beginning and more than anyone has been in my life. Yes I'm bias but I would be dead if these guys weren't around, from a chronically ill and exhausted fan in the UK.
Hello how are you doing today..😀
Jesus Christ is there for you more than anyone. Even for those who don't believe
Glad to see you put up phone numbers for people feeling suicidal or needing other help hope it helps someone
Hello how are you doing today..😀
I was about to say the same!
Seen them in Milwaukee live and it was amazing! One of my favorite bands and I absolutely love Taylor Hawkins. Foo Fighters have went through some shit but what band hasn’t? Still love them!
For everyone who thinks Dave is a douch
He just wants everything to be perfect
He is not ok with "decent'' or ''good" that's it
And he's a douche.
This is not uncommen in this business, Kitaro could do the same song for days before touring.
How can anyone think he is a douche??
@@JesseWright68 Ehhhh, is he. really though?
@@TicketTooooRide “everyone says he’s nice. how can he not be? It’s totally not like none of us know him personally or anything.”
Grohl and Rose had a long time feud that I think ended with the passing of the throne .... pun intended. It's funny how when Kurt died people thought Grohl would be nothing. He proved that wrong and became one of the most greatest of our age.
Krist novoselic was so talente.
Love this group!🎶 Thank you for the awesome video.
Thank you for posting this this answered a lot of questions I had rolling around my head about the band it was very insightful thank you so much Foo fighters rule
I was at the concert in Gothenburg when he broke his leg! It was awesome! The best performance I’ve ever seen.
Kudos for adding the helpline in your vid. The majority of this style of youtube video puts content before concern. Thank you.
Love that you put resources for mental health into your video 🙌
I love the foos they’re super influential
*They’re
@@Curruptednostalgia thank you
The only tragedy here is, that I came for all the ads and was constantly interrupted by rockband stuff.
You had a fantastic run Taylor, but it’s time to rest up. Thanks for the music, the laughs, the memories, the drums. I’ll miss your flashy pants and massive grin behind that snare, rock on Hawk✌🏻
Might need an update with Taylor... RIP
Excelente, gran vídeo.
If Dave wasn't who HE is, the Foos wouldn't be what they ARE!!!!
“Taylor Hawkins has been with the band since he joined”. You don’t say. Shoulda reworked that part in the script
He could’ve left and come back like Pat did
@@manuelpachamoro3322 I think he did leave in the late 90s
@@manuelpachamoro3322 Fair enough
I like Taylor he is a great drummer also!
😂🤣😂🤣
In daily lives, I don't think Dave Grohl is as nice as people (those who don't know him personally) think he is. He just grew older and wiser through all of his problems, and he picked up some compassion along the way.
Don't we all ;-)
Cool video!
hmm... at 7:03.... are you sure that popup pic and quote by Franz is actually a pic of Frans? It looks a lot more like their keyboardist Rami to me.... oops :)
I was just about to say this :D
Cheers to telling this guy lol
RIP Tylor 💔
I've known Dave since he was dead broke and had nothing but was very driven and recording on his own back when he was in Scream. He let me listen to some of them back then and I was like OMG!!!
Man I sure miss Nirvana. I think that's why I love the foo fighter so much.
@@thegoodguy44 The first album sounded alot like Nirvana. It was great!
Hello how are you doing today..😀
Watching after Taylors passing, RIP
I remember Smear quitting on top of radio city.
Ugh!! So tragic, I'm not gonna sleep for weeks after this
Tragic details? To me it just sounds like a life being lived. Things happen
Yeah none of this is “tragic.” Lynard Skynard’s story is tragic. Not this
U literally put so much effort into all of these bids
Literally
Foo fighters will definitely be 1 of my top rock bands I love foo fighters my dad use too listen too a lot of them I'm only 20 but I think my favourites are definitely thier older songs from the foo fighters greatest hits album and defo some others
Sheesh...that PSA about the Helpline at @08:26 hits super hard after Taylor's death 😢
8:27 BAM, You get a like! Solid move dude. Cheers!
And today the biggest one of them all... R.I.P Taylor
@7.04, the thumbnail is not Franz Stahl, its Rami Jaffee, Foo Fighters former touring Keyboardist, currently official band member.
Is the picture of this video from a 2002 queens of the stone age concert when dave was still they're drummer?
“Tragic just TRAGIC” - Mr Omar
I’m subbing for the mention of the substance abuse and mental health hotline. Truly saving lives this is awesome and amazing video
swimming is a top5 album for me love n miss mac
Them there “Tragic” details about the Foos??? Sounds like a Kick Ass Rock Band to Me!!! 🇺🇸👍🏼🇺🇸🍀🇲🇽🇺🇸
Something you have to keep in mind about Dave is that when he was the drummer of Nirvana Kurt was very demanding of him and had been demanding of past drummers, so when Dave got a chance to be the frontman of his own band he acted a bit like Kurt, and expected a lot of his drummers. I think he’s learned from that a little bit but I certainly don’t blame him much much for how he lead the Foo Fighters early on.
It's laughable to think that Kurt would have Dave doing 96 takes of anything.
I think Smear is the coolest cat in the band :)
~Rock in Peace Taylor ~
RIP Taylor. You were one of the real ones brother
What is that background music? Sounds great)
So blessed he moved on!!
RIP Taylor Hawkins, your skills for music will never be forgotten
I think it's about time people realize there is no idyllic situation in any point of life. What separates the legends from the rest is that they manage to weather the storm - so they become the storm.
Foo Fighters
Wow that was beautiful you need to write a song
I think it's pretty cool that they put in an addiction mental health number.
Damn, how many times was Louder referenced?! :-)
The quote at 7:02 is accompanied by a picture of Rami Jaffee, and not Franz Stahl.
Wow!! I've been in the same band for 18 years...sounds like a normal Band life to me! :)
Met them in Auckland at the airport / nicest guys and down to earth 😀
It would not be easy to impress the nirvana drummer I could imagine how hard he is to impress in rock music Dave had a close to perfect click track on drums listen to live nirvana Dave is always perfect the reason that band was able to hold the songs together live if you listen to them love so many times there songs would have fell apart if Dave wasn't the drummer so he understands the importance of a tight drummer I can imagine him turning demon in the studio with the drums
whaaa, lul
4:13 i need that background track
What song is playing in the background from the beginning?
my dad was at the ff concert in D.C. where he was on the throne
7:08 - That's Rami Jaffe, not Franz Stahl ...
I've had the same role in many bands as Dave has in FF. Obviously not on their scale, but I can relate to being called somewhat of a bully because you're always pushing the quality of the music. Dave may or may not have been mean or disrespectful, idunno I wasn't there, but he is wholly in his right to do whatever he can to make the album sound better. If the guy ain't good enough, he ain't good enough.
just be thankful, imagine if they never fought the foo...
Kinda reminiscent to Rock n roll true stories
I'm very happy Taylor survived
This is no longer true
Incredible musician lead singer and brilliant band
What’s the song at 8:52?
The picture next to Franz Stahl’s quote isn’t Franz... it’s Rami Jaffee... 🤷♂️
THANK YOU, that was driving me crazy😂
dave's lost two band members now holy shit :(
This just got even more apropos.
Favorite band ever.
the reason i love pat smear isnt about foo fighter or nirvana but tnx to the germs
One of my friends helped out when foo fighters where in Australia for the first time and she said "there where needles everywhere" in their accommodations.
Dave is rough but he means well and from it comes awesome music
The foo fighters suck. Dave grohl should just been happy being a drummer
Good grief, dude. The name of the band is, "Foo Fighters", not "THE Foo Fighters".
👏👏It drives me nuts when people want to add The... Same with Talking Heads or Pretenders, just to name a couple other of my favorite bands.
As a fan, we were NOT upset when he was doin drum work for other bands😂LOVE you Dave! I wish he could see that he's NOT the only one who sees right thru Courtney love!!!🤘
The title is wrong for just 4 days ago posted.
I thought something tragic is wrong here just like the title says.
Played drums in Nirvana...went on to become one of the biggest (and nicest) rockstars ever. How tragic.
My favourite drummer.
“Foo Fighters front man Dave Grohl doesn’t believe bands should feel pressured to allow their music to be performed on Glee. It’s every band’s right, you shouldn’t have to do f---ing Glee,” Savage!
What exactly is the tragic part of this video?
7.06 it isn't franz stahl pics lol, its rami jaffee 😄
Legendas PT-BR, please🙏
Rip
The best soundtrack I have heard was the music the Foo Fighters did for the movie The Other Side of Aids. Great movie also. It's free on UA-cam.
Thanks for the info....I'll watch it tonite.....Always good to have more info...
still waiting for tragic details!!!
You got what you wished for
Nice word choice. Wished for?
R.I.P. Taylor Hawkins
Everlong has to be my fav foo fighters song 🎵
same
First FF song I taught myself on guitar. All the others came after. Good music to play alongside to
Grohl is an absolute legend of a human being
This video needs an update
I have a bucket list item to ask Dave if he's planning on playing Bass in his next band.
Holy shit yes.
Not sure what's "tragic" here.
I wished for them to mentioned there biggest hits
Remember when you said Goldberg instead of goldsmith
Losing Taylor Hawkins is the most tragic.
