Thank you, I am an 86yr old woman and I really appreciate your advice. I will start this exercise today. I have noticed that I started to stumble and I certainly want to avoid any falls. I sincerely thank you for your knowledge and being in UA-cam! 😍
Thanks a lot, Dr. Mandell because I am 79 years old lady and have had two cervical spine surgeries, which causes my walking to be difficult. But I needed this education to help improve my balance as well as my walking 🚶♂️ 🙏. I totally appreciate all that you teach us to have a better quality of life. 🙏‼️. YOYO ❤
This exercise may have changed my life as a person having reached an older age. I don't work and stay around the house. In the last two years, I have noticed that when I walk, it is not youthful looking and I couldn't get it back. After viewing your video, I realized I was not strong in that muscle and it affected my stepping. I plan to exercise as you demonstrated and I know I can gain my proper steps again. Thank you for your tips.
Another thing to consider is strengthening your quadriceps, the muscles on the front of your thighs. A lot of falls occur because people don’t have the strength to lift their legs high enough when it comes to throw rugs, stairs, uneven pavement, etc.
This video has helped tremendously. I am 72yo & for years, I have easily tripped walking on sidewalks whenever they weren't level or catching my shoe on carpet. But I never broken a bone or was in the hospital, including having both my babies in home deliveries. Then I was in a serious drunk driver, car accident in 2021 & nearly died. Both femurs were broken in several places. Both knees were crushed, both wrists broken, & all but 3 ribs were fractured. Now, in 2023, I'm walking with a walker but with difficulty. I thought it was my knees not lifting high enough while walking. I began using the simple technique in this video & it has made all the difference in the world. It encourages me to walk with my feet straight & bend my knees. My walking has improved tremendously in only one week & it isn't as tiring to walk. Thank you for all of your enlightening wisdom & instruction.
Thank you for posting this particular video. This is something that I believe I needed and could very well help me. My gate is way off at present time due to my lower back and some lower leg issues. I get more information here than going to the several doctors I’ve been to over the past 7 years or so. I do go regularly to any doctors visits but sadly, most of the time I really think they’re clueless. Thanks again for this video and have a great and blessed day!
This discussion should be mainstream news. So many are paying ridiculous insurance premiums and copayments, but not getting the proper treatments. And if one is in state insurance - it’s worse. Doctors need to start treating holistically.
Thank you so much, Dr. M.! I have had many falls in my adult life and dismissed them until I fell and broke my shoulder...which ultimately I came to see had been a life saving blessing. I became aware that my toes were not lifting causing my falls (nor was I shifting from leg to leg). I began doing Tib exercises and also, heel drops & calve exercises. However, this video connected the dots and elaborated. You shared the important advice about repair time, AND the brain/muscle connection we lose (how we do is a serious mystery). You are a true God-send. Thank you, again.
Thank you for this video as a 69 year old women with a history and injuries to match the multiple falls suffered over years. I now have the confidence and the knowledge to move forward in my senior years knowing that my heal must hit the ground first when I walk and not by body falling on to the ground Trina from Australia 🇦🇺
Dr. Mandell, you are a blessing for the techniques you show use for our bodies to function better. Thank you so much for making us more aware of proper form.😊
I'm a ballet dancer since a youngster and I am still teaching, dancing ballet and contemporary at 63 yrs and these wonderful, simple exercises have been in my daily routine without realizing! Love your videos, I'm a fan and sharing with my sister!!
Thank you for this, I am 63 and have had 3 major falls ( 2 with minor injuries). Didn't understand why I fell with 2 of them (one was a crack in the sidewalk). This is so enlightening and I will absolutely do these strengthening exercises. Thank you again!!!
Hi Dr. I am a senior man, I have been diagnosed with Parkinson ‘s on my right leg(had TKR on that knee back in 2016) I have been a gym rat for more 40 years,. So, when Covid.hit they closed all gyms. So I weighed for a while, then brought some. “Stuff” and worked out at home, using some of that Stuff. I now have to use a walker to get around safety. I going to try your anterior tibias method to strengthen it. I’ll keep you posted. BUT DO THINK THIS WORK- SO PLEASE ADVISE! BECAUSE I BROUGHT A DROP FOOT BRACE(a minor help)
Dr. Mandell ~ You are amazing! You are the ONLY doctor I have come across who is Straightforward. Never once have I heard you tout your great accomplishments, bring testimonials, try to sell a product....You give a great message, wish us well and we are better off because of you! Thank you, Sir Dr.
I am praying to get the appeal approved for left knee torn meniscus asap. This is hindering me from walking 5 times a week to lose a lot of weight , I lost 90 lbs. I want to lose 100 lbs in two years. Please pray for people like me who are suffering and crying for their knee surgeries. 🙏 ❤ Thank you, brother.
😊 love this exercise, I fell couple weeks feeling what the heck happened, Doctor told me had arthritis in vertebrae, You just made sense, thanks for advice, Have a great day too❤
I’ve seen your video before, this time I saved it, it is so helpful. I have been losing my balance, tripping over my own feet, falling and getting hurt sometimes over the years. I’m glad I watched it again, it gives me courage! I’m 77 and it’s never too late to learn. Thanks for all your videos.

Thank you for all the lessons you give to us to help make our lives better. You are an amazing person & everything you teach us is so straight forward & very easy to understand. Circulation to my feet has become a problem for me and there are many natural things that improve it. So many It's almost overwhelming. But I can remember chili peppers! And chili pepper season is almost upon us. 😋
Thank you Dr. Mandell for a very informative video. I have problems with walking I have neuropathy and back problem with my back my spine is not straight anymore is curved I do stretches everyday should I do it every day or every other day?. Also is there a surgery for neuropathy or laser therapy I saw the advertisement. Thank you God bless🙏💜🤩
To have neuropathy and it feels like my legs are almost all steel-type I'm going to try this and I'm having trouble walking just recently but I go side to side. It seems I can't keep my ankles straight and the krill to the outside. I will try this I sure hope it works I'm seventy-nine and I need all the help I can get thank you thank you thank you.
I watched this video out of curiosity. When I lifted my feet I noticed that I could lift my right foot higher than my left. When I did just a few reps while just sitting down with bare feet, I could feel those muscles tingle. I’ll be adding this to my exercise routine. Thank you for the info.
Thanks again Dr. Mandell. You have once more shared invaluable information to persons like me at age 77. I intend to put into practice all the tips for proper gait and eventually walking.
💊 1: Walking can be improved by strengthening the anterior tibialis, a muscle located at the front of our leg. 💊 2: Many people experience lower back pain, often due to problems like bulging discs, herniated discs, arthritis, or stenosis, which can affect the nerves extending into the legs. 💊 3: A portion of the sciatic nerve below the knee, the peroneal nerve, influences the anterior tibialis muscle. This muscle allows for dorsiflexion, or lifting the toe or the front of the foot upwards. 💊 4: If the anterior tibialis is weak, it may lead to issues like drop foot, where the toe hits the ground before the heel during walking, causing a person to stumble. 💊 5: Strengthening the anterior tibialis can be done with a simple exercise: standing close to a wall or staircase, coming up on your heels, holding for a few seconds, then going back down. This should ideally be repeated in two sets of 20. 💊 6: If the exercise is difficult, an alternative involves using a rope or towel to pull the foot into dorsiflexion, holding it there for 30 seconds, then slowly releasing. This can be done six times. 💊 7: Another alternative exercise can be done by manually pulling your foot up in dorsiflexion while sitting or lying down, holding for 30 seconds, then releasing. 💊 8: It's important to work these muscles every other day, allowing them time to repair and heal. 💊 9: Strengthening these muscles can result in improved walking, reduced stumbling, and prevention of potential falls and related injuries. 💊 10: Along with these exercises, it's important to develop a mental connection with the muscle, so as to better contract and control it. This will result in improved walking and overall quality of life.
Thanks Doctor! This is what and why I wanted to know the reason I used to have my feet stuck on the floor like a suction cup and the difficulty provoked as you explained. So I am going to do the exercises you explained. You are of great help, Doctor. God bless you and your wonderful work.
Thank You! Exactly what I needed to Hear! My surgeon didn’t even tell me this-not goin back to him, 2 failed surgeries, & a permanent life long deformity..not so good.😢. Thank you. The surgeon also will Not order me PTist! You’re very good at giving hope 🎉!
God bless you mr mandel you are indeed a blessing i use to go to therapy to do these exercises but i stop and was told to do them at home which i hardly ever does but i never knew they were this important thank you so much i have saved this video from now on am going to start doing them have a great week mr mandel and God continuous blessings.
Good morning Dr, this video is definitely for me, I have been falling a lot, my doctor said I have 5 herniated discs, I can’t walk properly, can’t lift my left leg , can’t even get across the street without help, and cause me my livelihood and job so I thank you for the education, I’m going to use it to get back my life, thank you very much and God bless you always.
I'm almost in tears! I have always tripped on "nothing" from childhood to now. Even walking I always wondered why my feet made a slapping noise while walking. Yes, I'm flat-footed but no one gave me any reason for my tripping. I had an MRI in my 30s when I started experiencing migraines and one thing that stuck in my head was that the physician told me I have spots on my brain that "may indicate" that I may develop MS, and to monitor when I would start to "fall" as time went by. I never fall but always trip. Never ever never did he mention my leg muscles may be the cause of the tripping or foot slapping, which I know are weak, even playing softball and dancing. I know I'm saying a lot but I want to THANK YOU for this!!! God Bless you because I know I've been blessed through you! 💜
I have a severe genu valgum in my right knee with osteoarthritis, but I have been walking using the heel strike first followed by the dorsiflexion of the toes, ( as you teach)and it has made a lot of difference in the lessening of pain in mobilizing that limb, improving overall stability. It requires constant vigilance so I dont fall back into my old bad habits which made my gait worsen over time in the first place. Thanks for the exercises to strengthen the anterior tibialis muscles, I will be sure and incorporate them into my routine as well.
Great job again DR MANDELL love watching you telling cause I am learning things I never known about. I still got my old log truck 1976 f600 and I wood clean up falling trees . Anywhere around 50 miles or more made me feel good cutting them trees so I am thinking to start back doing that again. So wish me luck if I do this, but I’ll be slower doing it cause I got about 12 to 15 years on me now more the truck needs worked on so I can work it okay buddy DR MAN DELL . I’ll getter going and have some fun well DR MANDELL you have a great day and well see ya next time see ya bye buddy see ya bye.
Thank you so much doctor. Using other videos you have on stretching using an interior door to stretch your lower back I have had great results. I cannot wait to start this exercise because I believe I do suffer from slap foot. I will let you know how it goes. God Bless You for all you do for us,
I’m suffering from pain on my left front leg whenever I walk. Lately I’ve been walking very slowly especially sitting and getting out of my car after driving. I think I’m not doing the right thing when walking because I seem to have heavy legs that I can’t lift it. I did the exercise one leg on a couch but my back hurts when I try to pull my toes towards me. Thank you so much Dr Mandell, I have watched a lot of your videos and I learned a lot from them.
Thank you Dr.Mandel for sharing this video I'm going to start doing this asap to help strengthen my muscles in my lower legs. I'm so ever thankful and grateful for your expertise in the medical field by teaching us the importance on how to live a healthy lifestyle😊❤ Peace & Blessings Always♡

This guy is great, sincerely concerned for other people and a very knowledgeable and is a practical practioner . Thanks so much Dr. Mandel, you are appreciated!
Proper true living embodiment of the word DOCTOR! 🤲🏽♥️🙏 I REALLY NEEDED this one. 🙏 After an operation, my lower right leg has been torturing me daily. 🥴 Now I know EXACTLY what, why and how!🤗 🧠And how to deal with it accordingly and effectively!🧠 This doctor is a walking, living blessing in this world. 🙏
I really enjoyed this video because I have noticed at my age, the way I walk needs improvement. I will do this. I am only 63 and some days I feel so old. So glad I've been watching your videos.
Thank you Doctor Mandell for your clear instructions! I suffer from peripheral neuropathy and drop foot due to an open heart surgery. This video will help me a great deal! God bless you!
Thank you very much, Dr. Mendel. You are outstanding. This issue I am looking for and asking many doctors but got wrong treatments, costed money without good results. I fix myself and self-help, now I know reasons. Again my appreciation and God bless you.
Thank you for your demonstration lately I have been falling and I live on my own. There are also steps outside which had become a problem. Should be better soon. Thank you Jenny
Thank for the vid... have suffered LBP since 1973 due to military stuff... FINALLY!!! VA said, well, now that you are about 95% crippled, we'll fix it, and they did courtesy of a really good surgeon in my part of the state... while not completely normal, am way better re the sciatica pain altho I am having trouble with weakness, balance and tripping in spite of VA PT... looking forward to including this in my regimen...
Thank you Dr. I have CMT which effects my legs and hand. In order to be able to walk I have to exercise my legs. Your explanation is accurate because when I emphasize on my toes, right after, I feel like I can stand or walk better with more strength. Love your informative videos.
Thank you Doctor Mandell for sharing and support ! Very great and important information to know . I’ll do this exercise and I’m sure will help me 🙏🙏🙏❤️❤️❤️
You are definitely God sent for me and I’m sure for all of us🙌🏾 I have an entrapped perineal/peripheral nerve on my right leg and it started with me having a muscle spasm after doing squats…went to the hospital and was told that I had sciatica then that led to the entrapped nerve that led to foot drop🤦🏾♀️ now I waiting for results of possibly having MS 🤔I’m 45 and a mother of 8 and live an extremely healthy lifestyle so this sudden diagnosis has had me extremely down because I’ve lost my energy due to not being able to be as mobile as I’ve always been :( Your videos have really helped me along with your spiritual motivations🙏🏾 Your spirit is genuine, kind, peaceful and warm🙏🏾Thank you soooo much for thinking of us and giving us hope☺️ God Bless you 🙌🏾
Thank you always for sharing your expertise from other videos. I’m always stumbling and hitting my toe. I struggle to stop tripping when my sandal toe hits the ground and the whole shoe goes underneath me, well sort off. So irritating, I do it all the time. I’m so thankful for your very informative information and tips you give us. God Bless you. X.
I had to share this with my spouse who underwent surgery from a sarcoma tumor removal (a form of cancer) on the right leg. Two 11 and half of his hamstrings had to also be removed as a result is causing him not walking properly. He goes to PT twice a week for 45min a session and is improving. These simple legs and feet exercises can help his recovery journey, for sure. Thanks, Dr . Mandel!🙏
Thank you so much Dr. Mandell…..nearly75 and have had issues with ACL and cannot get NHS physio for 6 weeks. Will start your exercise this minute. Look at all your videos and love your beautiful Mum too 🏴.
Just this morning I stumbled at my job's cafeteria! Thank God it was pretty empty. I have been wondering why this has been happening to me lately. I thought it was the shoes, sandals, sneakers, etc. I'm for sure incorporating these exercises in my routine. Thanks again!
I know now, how my sciatica pain got resolved. Without knowing your suggestion, every time I was sitting down especially on long trips, I would move my toes upwards ! Yo keep my legs in good shape. I also move them in circles which help them a lot. Thank you.
I'm gonna have to say that the video titled "Why this is the best way to land on your feet (How to Walk)" by Grown and Healthy makes more sense regarding the front lateral part of the foot being the more natural, safer, and healthier striking or landing location while walking and running.
Thank you, I am an 86yr old woman and I really appreciate your advice. I will start this exercise today. I have noticed that I started to stumble and I certainly want to avoid any falls. I sincerely thank you for your knowledge and being in UA-cam! 😍

Knees over toes program stresses tibialis strengthening. Great for the knees!

Dr Mandell,u r a Hero, i wont praise u i would give u all the stars in the sky.God bless u always.❤

God Bless You for all you do for us,
Very practical. Thank you. I have supinated feet and am very tired of riding scooters in the big grocery stores. I'm going to work on this. Thank you.

You are definitely God sent for me and I’m sure for all of us🙌🏾 I have an entrapped perineal/peripheral nerve on my right leg and it started with me having a muscle spasm after doing squats…went to the hospital and was told that I had sciatica then that led to the entrapped nerve that led to foot drop🤦🏾♀️ now I waiting for results of possibly having MS 🤔I’m 45 and a mother of 8 and live an extremely healthy lifestyle so this sudden diagnosis has had me extremely down because I’ve lost my energy due to not being able to be as mobile as I’ve always been :(
Your videos have really helped me along with your spiritual motivations🙏🏾 Your spirit is genuine, kind, peaceful and warm🙏🏾Thank you soooo much for thinking of us and giving us hope☺️ God Bless you 🙌🏾
God bless you after mandrell you're a miracle worker
I look forward to your videos every day! Thank you!
You’ve probably saved my life 🙏
Thank you always for sharing your expertise from other videos.
I’m always stumbling and hitting my toe. I struggle to stop tripping when my sandal toe hits the ground and the whole shoe goes underneath me, well sort off. So irritating, I do it all the time. I’m so thankful for your very informative information and tips you give us. God Bless you. X.
Thank you doctor Mandell you are a life saver. May God bless you abundantly
It’s a great day with much required information provided by you.Thank you doctor.
Thanks for info. Will keep many of be us out of the hospital and prolong our ability to live independent lives.
Thank you.
I have received wonderful help and health from your videos. Thank you, and God Bless and Keep you!
I'm gonna have to say that the video titled "Why this is the best way to land on your feet (How to Walk)" by Grown and Healthy makes more sense regarding the front lateral part of the foot being the more natural, safer, and healthier striking or landing location while walking and running.
I'll give it a try thanks doc!
