I think what's also key for him in newer tracks is the way he uses polymeters and -rhythms and "unexpected" re-sync triggers of arps. So he might have a chord of 4 notes and set an arp-sequence of length 7/8 that would return to home after 8 meters, but throughout he changes chords 3 times and 2 times he resets the arp-sequence back to 1. Well a fully developed hardstyle kick (as opposed to the dry kick it's made from of course) is one example, but that is obvious I guess, it's the bread and butter of the genre.
Great tune, it would be amazing if you could to do a deep dive into the advanced mixing techniques your using on some of these productions, like after you finish a track video like this one.. maybe do a one off part 2 followup of it- showing a more in depth form of how you used your techniques to get to the next step in mixing it and so on. It would be cool to see sometime, knowing when not to overmix and when to stop is a good concept as well. Keep up the good work 👏
Thanks for watching, I am stoked you liked it! It's a really good idea, Andrew, but it will be quite a prolonged video :) I will add this to my list and let's see what I can come up with in 2024!

He pioneered the use of counterpoint in melodies and went out of his way to make melodies that were out of the ordinary yet intriguing. He's been more than content with openly discussing his craft in interviews throughout the year, and I think we're all glad about that!
Ok look I like Deadmau5 but what on earth are you saying, he didn't "pioneer" counterpoint in melodies blud. How does a man pioneer something that Bach and Beethoven used and studied extensively are you mad?
Thank you very much for this tutorial. As always very clear, simple and focused. I like Deadmau5 and I like you too. I learned again what I kinda knew - simplicity is the key. I have to learn a million tons more, but I enjoy every minute of learning. Thank you again.
Another goody Will. I particularly liked what you did with the impact and that riser sounded amazing 100% wet delay. That's going into the next track of mine for sure (into Verse3 specifically) 😜
Hi, Will! Great content as always! Personally, I’ll try not be as shy with the sidechain and the plucks on the 8ths (maybe with a rhythmic twist here and there) is what I’m taking away as far as techniques. (Always a good reminder from you about stuff that I know but simply don’t employ too much of). Best advice I’m taking tho is that one simply can’t get good without dedication and practice. Sounds so cliché, but it’s because it’s true and one can’t really get this until actually putting in the time. Similar to Guetta, peeps can have different opinions about the persona or the brand, but d-mouse clearly knows what is going on. And so do You, sir! Many thanks as always!!! P.S. is it me, or You didn’t in fact use the Mpc 57 swing groove!? :)😊 Much love!! Cheers!!!❤
Will! Great video as always. Question: I don't really use sends for fx ever, maybe in a special case i.e. sidechain ducked reverb. Do you feel that using either busses instead or on single tracks is worse? And why/why not :) I feel the control and overview is better using sends, but i find myself often wanting to dip over to 50%+ wet when doing atmos, fx etc, and i can't do that with the aux channel technique afaik.
Set your dry channel to Pre Fader so 100% of signal is also being sent to the AUX channel to get more signal. The killer thing with AUX busses is you can have a dry signal that you automate up the send for a reverb splash and even if the reverb is 10 seconds long, it doesn't get cut out which would happen if you automate the wet/dry on a reverb on a channel. Once you nail using it to add splashes into a huge reverb you'll never go back. :D
Opening up the filter itself is an interesting technique. So is dragging and dropping samples into the midi clip’s sample bay although I’m confident there’s a different term for it. Of course ducking the plucks and mixing them into the kick brings out a whole lot of deadmau5 vibes, thank you for that. It occurs to me that you’ll possibly make known many options within Ableton Live. I’m only about 15 minutes in and the use of both compression/ return is what I find most boomy. Boomy as in great for producers to practice and get to know. To really cook the track consider all your preset ideas to be the oven and automation as raw fire doing the work. Except that would make your tracks specifically way too hot. So please take my input with a grain of Jesus’ humility. Practice makes perfect and I believe that.
Also, register the fact that most of the oscillators are using Saw wavs. Each Label has a method mau5trap usually uses saws and squares.. another thing, I dont know if you mentioned, the snare und claps are even timed a couple miliseconds ahead of "normal" time signature because as I was taught from mau5trap they even sidechain that too. :)
This was excellent Will! I really liked how you walked through the routing of the effects to create a high environment and then went back to sweeten the delay to show us what we're working towards. Spot on and killer demo! I could feel your excitement match the energy as it built in the track!
Appreciate all your content Will! It has helped so much in my production journey. I'd love to see a tutorial on heavy tech house / bass house. Artists like OddMob/Malaa/Joyryde/Dr Fresch if you are up for some suggestions!

Quote of the day “we need a nice big organ, so to speak” 😂
You know it :)
The one thing I learned was that emojis don’t help anything 😂. Seriously though, great tutorial really enjoyed watching my friend!
It's a really good idea, Andrew, but it will be quite a prolonged video :)
I will add this to my list and let's see what I can come up with in 2024!
@EDMTips thanks for the reply Will appreciate it. Oh stop I'd say a video like that would probably take an entire series to make 😂, but defo something with a few concise points into the main elements of mixing and demonstrating how to make them work the stereo field in flowing form would be a golden ticket buddy. I must check out your accelerator course soon 👍
Super nice to have you over! And as always an amazing insight to music production ✌🙌
Great to meet you in person, Archy, and thank you again for the invitation and hospitality! Catch you soon :)
Well, apparently my comments are mostly shadow banned, but maybe this one will get through! Thanks for another awesome video, Will!
You’re welcome! I’m not sure why they aren’t showing up - this one definitely did!
Hi will, you should do a video about testpress they are doing a lot of good remixes
Thanks for the suggesrtion, Alex, I will add this to my list and let's see how many people will vote for it :)
Deadmau5 is the Cristiano Ronaldo of EDM, everything is based on effort and persistence. I love it!
Love the analogy, I wish I thought of it when I was making this vid! 👍🏻
Then Martin Garrix is the messi no cap
awesome work 👏
He pioneered the use of counterpoint in melodies and went out of his way to make melodies that were out of the ordinary yet intriguing. He's been more than content with openly discussing his craft in interviews throughout the year, and I think we're all glad about that!
Great insights, thank you for sharing 🙌🏻
Ok look I like Deadmau5 but what on earth are you saying, he didn't "pioneer" counterpoint in melodies blud. How does a man pioneer something that Bach and Beethoven used and studied extensively are you mad?
He didn’t pioneer the use of counterpoint in melodies lol
Get a grip
Sasha tutorial please
Thanks for the suggestion, I will add this to my list!
great suggestion
or Hybrid….love their music

Thank you very much for this tutorial. As always very clear, simple and focused. I like Deadmau5 and I like you too. I learned again what I kinda knew - simplicity is the key. I have to learn a million tons more, but I enjoy every minute of learning. Thank you again.
You're welcome...Thanks as always for watching and supporting!
GR8 tutorial as always :--)
Thank you, glad you liked it! 🙌🏻
Another goody Will. I particularly liked what you did with the impact and that riser sounded amazing 100% wet delay. That's going into the next track of mine for sure (into Verse3 specifically) 😜
Nice! I am glad you really enjoyed it and found it helpful! 🙌🏻
What's the name the song in the beginning of the video besides "I REMEMBER"?
21:10 its THAT simple 🤩- but we all get distracted every so often 😅
Absolutely!
Remember his FL roots !
Thanks for the reminder!
So awesome!
Can the pluck be created in any Plugin like Logics Retro Synth or wavetable?
Could you do one on Phaxe and Metronome and maybe some SERUM sound design and melody writing in that genre maybe ?!? 🙏🏻 great video btw. 😊
Thank you, Peter, glad you liked it!
I will add this to my long to-do list, and who knows 🤫
Much love!! Cheers!!!❤
Thanks for the amazing video!! Do you have something equivalent using only Logic?
I don’t use Logic but you should be able to translate the techniques into your DAW
I don't use Logic, so it's a no, but you should be able to translate this into your DAW if you're comfortable with it.
Will! Great video as always.
Question: I don't really use sends for fx ever, maybe in a special case i.e. sidechain ducked reverb.
Do you feel that using either busses instead or on single tracks is worse? And why/why not :)
I feel the control and overview is better using sends, but i find myself often wanting to dip over to 50%+ wet when doing atmos, fx etc, and i can't do that with the aux channel technique afaik.
It's called talent.
Talent, perhaps, but defnitely a lot of work!
eyes to cam 1:48 - awwww
Cheers!
Wizardry. Love it
Thank you, really glad you liked it :) Thanks for watching and supporting the channel 🙌🏻
Which headphones are you using?
Banger video, and a cool looking studio too!
Thank you so much, I am really glad youn liked it! 🙂
I learned so much in 49 minutes
Awesome 😎
Fantastic video! And that studio looks like a dream!!
Thank you so mcuh, really appreciate the support! 🙌🏻
Studio is indeed sick!
2:16 "that was terrifying"
Also, register the fact that most of the oscillators are using Saw wavs. Each Label has a method mau5trap usually uses saws and squares.. another thing, I dont know if you mentioned, the snare und claps are even timed a couple miliseconds ahead of "normal" time signature because as I was taught from mau5trap they even sidechain that too. :)
This is great, thank you for sharing! 🙌🏻
This was excellent Will! I really liked how you walked through the routing of the effects to create a high environment and then went back to sweeten the delay to show us what we're working towards. Spot on and killer demo! I could feel your excitement match the energy as it built in the track!
Thank you so much, I am really glad you enjoyed it 🙂
Thanks for watching and supporting the channel 🙌🏻
Awesome!!
Cheers, glad you liked it! 🙂🙌🏻
Basically, make trance on house beats.
Thanks for the insights!
You, sir, are a goddamn maverick
Appreciate that! 😎👍🏻
Lol when you said 16ths before you made it im like, woah that going to be way to fast.
😆
46:05 I may be wrong, but I feel like the vocals doesn't really to instrumental's key
Thanks for the feedback!
Your Deadmau5 track is spot on! I've always been inspired by his work.
Thank you so much, Jay, I am glad you liked it! 🙂🙌🏻
And there's me thinking the answer was a gigantic novelty mouse head and a marketing team!
I am sure it contributed to it (hence I mentioned it in my video) but I doubt these are the only two factors.
The Latin percussion instrument clave is pronounced CLA VAY.
Thanks, I will remember now :)
Wicked- love it 😁
Cheers, Marco, glad you enjoyed it! 🙂 Thanks for watching and supporting the channel 🙂
why You dont use mono on kick or base ?
Appreciate all your content Will! It has helped so much in my production journey. I'd love to see a tutorial on heavy tech house / bass house. Artists like OddMob/Malaa/Joyryde/Dr Fresch if you are up for some suggestions!
Cheers, I am really glad you liked it!
Thanks for the suggestions, I will add them to my list and let's see hoe many people will vote for it :)
Lit track bro
Thank you so much, really glad you liked it! 🙌🏻
