As the co-founder of the neoliberal theory of international relations and a pioneer of the concept of soft power, Dr Nye is a world renowned academic and former Dean of the Harvard Kennedy School of Government.
In 2014 Nye was appointed to the Foreign Affairs Policy Board by then Secretary of State John Kerry and has also served under President Bill Clinton as the
Chairman of the National Intelligence Council.

Whereas most people trying to understand the current world in which we live don't go further than the 280 characters of the next Trump tweet I admire that Joseph Nye takes a different view. Very clear thought about the underlying (and often hidden) currents which shape our world.

About a year ago I would agree with Nye. However between the time he made this lecture and it's publishing it would appear that the situation in North Korea is proving him wrong. Putting tariffs on countries at the moment doesn't seem to be causing any trouble either.
