- If you're not sure where to start with planning a thru-hike, this is how I approach it. It takes several months to prepare for most long-distance backpacking trips, but once you get the hang of thru-hike planning, you can work through the process quickly if you're in a time crunch.

I LOVE my Kula cloth. I take it on day hikes.
Thank you!
The humidity is something that you may not have considered. Colorado has altitude. It humbled me really quick. The South has humidity. I live here, live north of Atlanta, all my life. You’ll need water and some electrolytes. You probably know this but there it is if you don’t. Enjoy your hike. 😎
You’re right. It’s a huge difference. I grew up in FL and spent 20+ years in GA and it can still wipe me out. I drink a lot more on hot humid days and really stay on top of the electrolytes.
Where do you get your maps from?
Depends on the trail. I usually start with the trail association for official maps. If they don’t have one, i have to Google and see what’s available.
nice video
I am SERIOUSLY intimidated by planning a thru hike or a long section hike.
You can do it!
@@JoyfulRambler I’m starting to dip my toes in!
Have you ever done the Lone star trail in East Texas? I have been looking into it. It is about 2 1/2 hours from where I live. I have been pondering it. It isn’t super well known and people don’t think of Texas when they think of a long trail. It’s about 100 miles. Anyway. Just in case you have done it, I thought I’d ask.
