Mike, I worked for the city in the early 80s. One day, I was working on the Caterpillar D7 tractor used at the old trash dump. A former USBR worker came over and said he operated a D7 during the construction of the dam. (one of two D7s that worked on the dam) I informed him that this was one of them. He told a story about one of the D7s getting stuck in quicksand around the bend of the river. They tried getting it out with the other cat but were afraid of getting it stuck and losing both vehicles to the river. He said they ran a cable from the skyway crane and tried to get it out. It could not pull it out. The D7 stayed in the river during the spring flood. After it dried out, they were able to dig it out and pulled it out with the other cat. I do not know what happened to that D7 after the dump closed.
