My local Lowe's is doing the same thing. Every time I have gone in they do not even have the human checkouts open forcing everyone through the self checkouts.
I almost always look for customer service and checking out with a person versus their impersonal machines that eliminate jobs. i’m with you on this one.
I used to go to humans at Walmart. I got consistently the most mentally challenged, slow, old and smelly humans you can imagine. It may be anecdotal, bordering conspiracy theory, but it held up across Walmarts in different cities and different states. I went to self checkout because it was quick and no homeless looking person yelled at me for putting my credit card in the machine too soon.
Glad i live in an area w Menards. Usually very knowledgeable and friendly staff (u can tell they try to hire those that have some expertise in a certain area unless they are just stockers), prices are competitive to lowes and home depot even before the gracious 11% rebate on everything, i love their daily email specials sometimes on items that have nothing to do w your typical hardware and lumber items and they ONLY have in-person checkout, never have to wait too long and they will often have people to help you out if it is large and cumbersome items if you ask for it.
Home Depot employees have no clue, with a few exceptions. A few weeks ago I asked the person in the tool dept if they had a blasting cabinet. She said I should go to the kitchen area to order cabinets .
Agree 100% with you Ninja! I avoid the self checkouts like they are the plague. Want to save jobs, have a smile or tiny conversation about something with the cashier and if I am having any issues at the checkout, the cashiers are very helpful. Also use cash on most of my purchases.
Absolutely 💯 We deal with humans and cash transactions. Time is valuable for us, but it is important to have that social connection. We leave enough in the bank to pay the automatic bill withdraw and leave the debt card at home. Cash only for this household.
At Home Depot & Lowes the only cashiers or at the garden center & lumber in Jacksonville Fl. Maybe we need to fill or carts full go to shelf check out and walk out. Their carry higher priced tool to the shelf check out maybe we should say I want to check out at the garden center then they would half to carry it down there. Milwaukee tools are sold only at Home Depot , Northern Tool or construction supplies warehouses or at certain online retailers . Thanks thanks for your videos.

When you mentioned the stadiums, there was a story of one vendor at a sports Stadium that was adding tips for himself to every transaction and people didn’t catch it until they went home and saw that later. When I do go see a concert, I do tip people in cash. I don’t add it to my credit card, but it’s very upsetting that that’s legal tender in the United States but most places are going away from it use it where you can people.
Totally agree. I have never used a self checkout. And it’s getting harder avoiding the big box stores for locally independent businesses . Independent business keep the money in the community like old main streets did.
I typically grocery shop once a month and our cart is full. Almost went through the express lane because they didn't have any other check out available except self check. I don't think so. It would be a major event to do this by myself, grabbing another cart, holding up many people, having issues with items not pricing or not pricing correctly.
Last Weekend we went to Home Depot to get a Milwaukee deal for Black Friday... It was around 7pm and 5 of these packs were metal cabled together - finally found a sales agent but they could not find a key to unlock & separate 1 pack. They tried for 15mins unsuccessfully. I looked at the pack and lock/chain and told them there was no electrical circuit on the lock so cutting it would not set off an alarm - they disagreed but I proved it by showing the cable was not connected. Anyway, I also said look - the cable goes thru the pack at the hanger hole - if you cut it there, I will get it over to cashier. Battery pack in hand to only human cashier at the other end. Very very frustrating & I held it up as I walked to check out to make sure video surveillance did not think I was stealing it. This is getting ridiculous - locking everything up for security is one thing but that store did not have many active staff to service customers in unlocking items needing to be bought.
I went to Walmart for a car battery and they were locked up to I went to the audio department where they sell the TVs and stuff three times asking to have somebody come over and unlock the cabinets I get the battery
I never use self checkout- I often get better selection with Amazon with better prices than I do at Home Depot for small hardware items. Bonus I don't have to drive to the Home Depot to pick up my stuff when Amazon brings it right to my door.
I prefer self checkout, but I think stores should always have at least 1 cashier available besides the ones watching the self check outs... I don't want conversation, or the person using too many bags, i can do it faster myself and how i want.
I hate Home Depot for their general-over-all poor customer service... I was at a Home Depot a couple months ago, buying several items for a plumbing project... The two "Human cashier" checkouts were closed, the 4 self-checkouts were "open" but 1 was broke. As I was trying to use one of the "working" self-checkouts, it wouldn't scan an item properly. There were TWO H.D. employees standing in the aisle, chatting away... I stepped over to them and asked for help. They both looked at me and said "Sorry, that's not our department"..... I just glared at them for a second, and said "Well MAYBE it's your department to put the stuff back on the shelf..." I left everything and walked out of the store.. The funny thing is, I live in a large metro area, with PLENTY of choices - Lowes, Home Depot, Menards, Tractor Supply, Ace Hardware and Blains Farm and Fleet... ALL within 7 or 8 miles of my house. On any given day, the Home Depot ALWAYS has the fewest cars in the lot..... DUH.
We have a new Home Depot in our small town, with ALL self checkout. After shopping there the first time, I left my buggy and merchandise in the line and walked out. I will continue to shop at my locally owned hardware store at any cost.

I am going to ask my congressman for a simple solution. The currency says "good for all debts, public and private" but there is no operative law with it. Any retailer in the USA that refuses lawful currency should be subject to a fine, $10,000 per instance. That will put a stop to it.
Home Depot, my neighbor went there, and they arrested him for shop lifting. He rubbed his hand across a board and got several splinters he didn’t pay for. So they locked him up.
You just added a new subscriber and started a movement to cancel self-checkout lines across all retail outlets. I will no longer use them and go to someone to check my items out. Thank you, Sir. Humans rise against big Teck 'Now!!!!'.
Ikr, most of the employees definitely are not worth what their paid, especially the younger ones, that's one thing I will say about home Depot is the employees, most of them are about as helpful as wet toilet paper. The older ones in plumbing and electrical are usually really good, but you get one for those kids, forget it
So I was at a Home Depot a week ago, and in the self-checkout lanes checking out. The young man (guessing 20 yr old) overseeing the self-checkout area gets on his radio for his next level up person to come urgently. The lady in the self-check lane behind me walked out after ringing up $600+ without paying. I said to the young man, "that's horrible!" His reply, "It's not on me, I just make minimum wage!" - So sad that is the mindset of that young man, or any age person, and the effort they want to put forth. Yes, I'm sure HD has some crappy rule about confronting theft, but seriously. Welcome to the end times.
We are not allowed to make any attempt what-so-ever to stop stealing physically at HD. People are too violent these days. An ordinary worker there is not trained to deal with that nor should they have to.
I won’t use self check unless it’s a couple small items. I threatened to leave a cart of food unless they penned a register- told them it will be much less work to open a register than to put all this back.
HD went to all self checkout several years ago - big turn off for me - the only way you get a manned register is lumber or garden shop. I walked out about a week ago. I needed a ceiling fan light replacement bulb, replacement lights to restring 2 Xmas trees, and a rug pad for a rug I’m replacing. I thought prices seemed high - guess what ceiling fan bulb $9 (ordered 4 pack from Amazon $8); Strands of 100 lights $9.98 ($3.98 at Lowe’s); rug pad $135 ($48 at Lowe’s). I got rid of HD Card a year ago - they would only send me coupons after I purchased something. HOHOHO Boycott Home Depot!
This happened to me last month. It took me 15 minutes to check out w/ cash- 2 lines and had to wait when there was no line in self checkout lines! Ugh! I was pissed!
Small businesses will many times prefer cash/check due to transaction costs. I don't blame them and am happy to pay that way. I'm tired of cashless. Every time I turn around, someone I've paid via credit card sends me a letter telling me they've been hacked and make sure you check your credit for ID theft. 🤬
Informative video! Your candid discussion has resonated deeply, as 'uncomfortable' barely scratches the surface of the emotions many of us experience regarding this issue. Thank you for shedding light on this critical topic and using relatable anecdotes and expressive pauses to drive home your points - your engaging approach makes a complex subject more accessible.
Resolving these complex challenges necessitates a thoughtful and multi-faceted approach. It's essential we provide comprehensive support to families facing hardships and treat individuals experiencing homelessness with dignity and compassion.
I completely agree! Investing in stocks and digital currencies has been a game-changer for me. It's empowering to know that financial success is within reach, regardless of government policies.
Absolutely; there are strategies for achieving solid gains regardless of economic or market conditions. However, these strategies are typically executed by experienced investment experts.
Many individuals struggle to navigate investment options, often resulting in costly errors. Partnering with a professional coach is crucial for informed decision-making, ensuring you make wise, data-driven choices.

I hear you Ninja, but as a current hotel employee, 99% of hotel guests when purchasing soft drinks or snacks prefer to either charge the cost to their room or pay by credit card. I can’t tell you how many people nowadays do not carry any cash. It’s shocking! It certainly wasn’t this 20 years ago.

I’ve had the cashier manager check me out at the self checkout because I refused to check myself out. My mom was a checker at the grocery store for decades. It used to be a decent job.
You can have all the kiosks you want, still need real people to stock shelves, get carts in the parking lot & unload trucks to different parts of the stores.
At my Home Depot there are only two registers open with people for contractors. Those registers talk non-contractors too. But the registers are only open until 5:00 PM. After we found that out, we are making a point not to go to Home Depot after 5:00 PM. The Lowe's by us is ALL self-serve registers. Other than those two store, there aren't any hardware stores left around us. They all went out of business when Home Depot and Lowe's moved in.
Funny self check out. Thank you. You did a fine job working for free. Checking yourself out. I’m sorry you messed up working for free checking yourself out. Please put your hands behind your back.
I have a very small chain grocery store in my little town of Meyers CA that has refused to check me out unles I used their self checkout. I explained to her like you did what I was doing and her response was to treat me like an idiot and offer to do self check for me. I left my stuff and offered good luck to her.
I was just at a Lowes buying a few items. Of course I was having trouble with the self checkout. An Items price did not show the markdown. An employee saw me and came over, did there best to help, but had to call another employee higher up the totem pole that knew the correct code. I asked them about the empty checkouts. They said that they would love to have more checkouts, but no one wants to work. This was early afternoon on a week day. Not many customers.
HOME DEPO IS THE ABSOLUTE WORST WITH SELF CHECKOUT1. THEY WERE THE FIRST TO GO SELF CHECK OUT!! AT A HOME IMPROVEMENT STORE, YOU WANT TO CHECK OUT WITH A REAL PERSON. EVERYTHING YOU SAID IS SO TRUE! EXCELLENT REPORT
my bank tried to charge me 3.00 for depositing 6000 .... i called and complained telling them i'm not going to pay them to give them money to lend out to others and be paid interest on that loan
The problem is two fold: One, time is a limited resource and self-checkout saves time. The 2nd is 'How many people have worked in retail and can check out themselves faster than waiting in a line?'. I totally respect the human employment factor because, as I stated, I have been employed by major retailers as a cashier and the CUSTOMER is why nobody wants to do this job. But, that's another topic. lol

Welcome to Joe bidens' America
The Home Depot where I am has lots of employees. They even have one they just hired yesterday working at the cash register.
I never use self checkout- I often get better selection with Amazon with better prices than I do at Home Depot for small hardware items. Bonus I don't have to drive to the Home Depot to pick up my stuff when Amazon brings it right to my door.
I agree Ninja…people need to y take a stand now!
I prefer self checkout, but I think stores should always have at least 1 cashier available besides the ones watching the self check outs... I don't want conversation, or the person using too many bags, i can do it faster myself and how i want.
Don't use the self checkout. Support jobs not tech.
Turn in your iPhone while you are at it
@@bigjimtenbillion I don't own one thank you.
DUH.
I'm more worried about WW3.....!!!!!
Exactly
Good call Russia is not our enemy from texas
We have a new Home Depot in our small town, with ALL self checkout. After shopping there the first time, I left my buggy and merchandise in the line and walked out. I will continue to shop at my locally owned hardware store at any cost.
The best financial UA-cam channel for everyday people. I'm celebrating a $30k stock portfolio today. started this journey with 8k, 1 have invested on time and also with my personal financial advisor, now I have time for my family and the life ahead of me.
How did you achieve such biweekly returns? I'm a newbie and I've lost a lot of money investing on my own.
Please how do I go about it, the year is almost coming to an end, how can I make profit?
If you ask me I will advise you stop investing on your own and seek for a good professional guidance, I don't invest on my own anymore, I always required help and assistance.

I am going to ask my congressman for a simple solution. The currency says "good for all debts, public and private" but there is no operative law with it. Any retailer in the USA that refuses lawful currency should be subject to a fine, $10,000 per instance. That will put a stop to it.
I won't shop at a store without a cashier. I have never used a self checkout. Always pay cash!
Awe, well, you are going to be very upset for a long time.
When is the last time u saw a full service gas station? Where they pump the gas for u
Jersey. You are not (or were not, it's been a while) allowed to pump your own gas in Jersey. Or did something change in the last 30yrs?
All gone sadly
I'm totally on the same boat. However, if Aldis has a self checkout and charges even less. Makes me think
If they don't take cash, they don't want my business.
Heard that Safeway in CA doesn’t have any checkers! So sad

Great idea!
Because people don't know the Bible, they are being slowly conditioned to accept the mark of the beast when it arrives on the dystopian scene (probably by Elon Musk and friends). (Revelation 13: 16-17)
I’ve had the cashier manager check me out at the self checkout because I refused to check myself out. My mom was a checker at the grocery store for decades. It used to be a decent job.
Forget Black Friday
yeah nothings actually any less expensive.
I don't go to sporting events either they're too expensive! They're ridiculously priced !!! Plus most of them suck!😮😮
Funny self check out. Thank you. You did a fine job working for free. Checking yourself out. I’m sorry you messed up working for free checking yourself out. Please put your hands behind your back.
I stand with you, Ninja!!!!!
I have a very small chain grocery store in my little town of Meyers CA that has refused to check me out unles I used their self checkout. I explained to her like you did what I was doing and her response was to treat me like an idiot and offer to do self check for me. I left my stuff and offered good luck to her.
In 2023 Home depot made $15.1 BILLION, and they can't hire someone to check us out.
Hire some friggin' people to take care of the customer.
IS that revenue or profit?
@@wlonsdale1 Profit, their revenue was $153 billion last year
What do you mean they MADE $15.1B... You mean they did $15.1B in business or PROFIT??? One doesn't mean the other.
@@davidpalmer7175 Profit, their revenue was $153
I avoid self checkout. It is taking away jobs. Companies need to pay me to be cashier.
Have been doing this since self checkout began. Retired now do not want to be a cashier for free
@@wadenone2861 I don't get it self-checkout is so much better you don't have to deal with anybody you just get in and get out
Who would ever use a self check out? Self-service is 3rd world.
my bank tried to charge me 3.00 for depositing 6000 .... i called and complained telling them i'm not going to pay them to give them money to lend out to others and be paid interest on that loan
Sounds good. I agree. Voted in person on election day as well.
It’s not theft when something gets “scanned incorrectly” - it’s the charge for making your customers work for free.
But, that's another topic. lol
I don't ever go self check out ever
Me neither…
Thanks Ninja I will be standing in a check out line from now on
and am passing the word around
