You can't compare it using two difference devices shooting at different res. You need to use the same device like Galaxy Note 3, shoot it in 4K and then shoot it again in 1080p.
Yes, I agree, although this is the best I could do comparing the two back in January. Now that I have a true 4K camera in the FZ1000, would you be interested in seeing what you described above? Thanks for the comment!
yes,u r right...but u can still see the difference..i mean 4k is more clear, and 1080 is slightly blurry at edges! But anyway, for me...tv,gaming and any product that can 1080 or 720 hd,it is more than ok,man!!Anyway,i m not saying that 4k is not awseome, but those kind of product that can generate 4k,are very expensive,it is the same thing like when laptops,or LCD,or LEd was came out,and now u can buy that tehnology at maybe more than a half price, than it was at the 1st day release!! Course i want 4k,but costs too much for me..and i think i m not the only one in this situation!! Cheers!!
2K or 4K downscaled to 1080p actually will be slightly crisper than a base 1080p camera. If we were talking about video games, you'd be correct; but in the realm of photography, it's not just the resolution that makes a photo look sharp.
PankGaming Well, the difference of pixels in 1080p and 4k is huge. In this video too, the 4k is just shot wit a smartphone and 1080p with a real camera, still the 4k is a lot sharper and has more detail. In photography yes, the megapixel count doesn't matter too much. But remember that sharpness and details are 2 different things. An 8 mpx image can look sharper but a 20 mpx image still most likely has more detail.
Arthur Simon It's sharper for stills or slow movement with still objectes. Do a continous shot of a moving car while you're moving and the 4k camera will be worthless because it just can't keep up while absorbing many pixels and decoding them at the same time.
I'm sure 4k is better than 1080p, but 1080p didn't look as sharp as it normally does. It was like a corny infomercial that makes the old look dated and cumbersome, and makes the new seem godly and fantastic just to get everybody to switch. I'm pretty sure 1080p looks better than portrayed here.
Canon DSLR video is typically soft, and not as sharp as a Panasonic DSLR would be. All video shot in 1080p was shot on in Auto mode, with not post editing done to it, besides moving it over to create a side-by-side comparison. Thanks for the comment!
Comparing the two shows something that most people wouldn't care to admit: When higher resolutions are down-sampled to lower resolutions, the quality is so much better than if it was recorded at the same resolution. This is why the best recording studios use 96kHz sampling rate for recording audio; Not because they are audiophiles, but becuase they comprehend that 96kHz will bring a much better sound when down-sampled to 44.1kHz or 48kHz for the consumer. There are less aliasing artifacts and greater resolution over the high frequency content. I can't wait for 8k Super Hi-Vision HD. Apparently NHK in Japan are going to start supporting 7680x4320 resolution by 2016. There doesn't seem to be a point to paying out of the pocket for 4k HD when 8k is just around the corner.
+AYMA HAWK Actually I think this is great, shows what a phone , an old phone at that can do in 4k vs a real camera. It's fucking crazy actually. Jesus. I'm watching on a 4k monitor.
If the 1080p on, say and Arri, or even a hacked GH2, you'd probably not see the difference. A lot of feature films are still shot in 1080p to save on workflow.
THIS IS AMAZING. I couldn't tell the difference between a 4k setting and 1080HD setting at first on UA-cam, but holy shit. 4K MAKES EVERYTHING LOOK 100X MORE BEAUTIFUL AND CLEAR. It was so satisfying seeing the comparisons. Thank you!
That's because cinema shoots video at 4k with very good camera's and then down scale it. The T4I doesn't have very high end 1080p that some professional cameras have :)
come on guys... I am getting the impression that light control made of the difference than resolution. For instance in some shorts the amount of light being more for the Samsung 4k resulted in a washed out sky and clouds, but more detail in the 1080 with the sky and clouds showing. With a wider aperture for the Canon there would be less difference. I think if one was trying to imitate the 4k footage with the 1080 there would be less difference as they would allow more light in. Or maybe its because i am viewing on a lousy screen... but wait! Most people watch on SD TVs anyway. For now 4k is far from necessary ... wait till its cheaper guys.
looking at it side by side is like seeing a beautiful painting with your eyes on the left, and on the right, the same painting has been converted to a .jpeg and bit-crushed.
More details on the left side (Note3) in every shot, even resampled and compressed. It's obvious, nothing to argue here. And it's amazing, knowing it has that 2mm pinhole of an "objective".
I find pretty interesting and scarring how now cellphones have better resolution than many profesional cameras. And I am talking about resolution only. You can really notice the difference in sharpness between both footages. Awesome demonstration.
Anime4 Mii My laptop has 1366 x 768 but it powers a monitor FHD - 1920 x 1080. And from that I can make the resolution to 4k too if I want. I just answered your question but I don't know why you questioned me because I didn't even mention that I have a laptop :))
Anime4 Mii Hah ? i run 4k just fine man stfu, the video is only rendered at 1080p , go back to your weeb stuff. + u don't need i7 with gtx 970 lol , a dual core 4th gen is enough
Anime4 Mii ayyy man, i'm not staying on laptop is just impossible, i use it to power a monitor which i have it separate with a mechanical keyboard and a mouse on a desk.
***** I never said it had, did I? But in a way 4K adds the shades/gradient so it does influences the colour; although most of the colour caption is based on the camera
4k is not indicative of aspects of image quality like color. It just means more pixels. You can buy a crappy 4k tv (Seiki) which produces a much worse image than a higher quality 1080p display like Samsung.
Well you can't expect perfect result on 4K yet as there are very few cameras, displays and especially GPU's that support it, in other words it is brand new technology and if you are planning on getting 4K display and graphics card, it's better to wait couple of years. Now if you are going to do lot of serious photographing, it's good investment because you want to be able to edit those photos with best possible results. 4K technology is like 3D - nice looking, but totally useless in consumer point of view
Having 4k vs plasma for me there is a huge difference in 65'' anything less you wouldn't notice it with the naked eye at 6-8 feet. Biggest difference to me is the clarity and brightness watching a remastered blu ray to 4k only makes certain scenes more pleasant to watch and dark scenes come alive- colors pop more than 1080p. Only you can decide if it''s worth it- I would say wait:)
Yeah it's insane how much difference there is. I'm getting a 4k TV, and I've been downloading 4k material, and wow, even on a 1080p tv, it's insane how much sharper video is. Either the capture method just allows for a WAY better video, or the downsampling creates better detail, but it's night and day between 4k and 1080p even on a 1080p tv. Not something I'd have expected to be honest.
best 4k vs hd comparison i've seen and 4k is simply amazing. BUT I'm still waiting on 8k since content, broadcasting, and broadband won't catch up with 4k anytime soon, i'm certain the industry is going to ditch it for 8k in couple of years.
Excellent comparison video. Watched on my 2560x1440 monitor it was simply no contest. The T4i video not only looked soft but showed a lot more moire as well.
Tell me again why we need anything thats further then HD? I mean, how much fucken detail to people want? I really dont want that much detail to the point where I can see the tiniest of cracks on the walls or the little ants walking on the ground........really 4k is just a moneygrabber

The 4K video is sharper than the the 1080p one. I can tell the difference in sharpness even on my IPHONE 6 PLUS 1080p SCREEN. Good video by the way very well made. I'm impressed with your work. You are an ace photographer. Well done.😊😊😊😊😊😊😊👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻
Those things are getting more expensive every time and the thing is that people don't really need this kind of things but they just want it to show off that they have the most expensive and up to date stuff ,for me 1080 still works wonders and I can't tell the difference unless I use a dam mega zoom
I'm watching it in 1080p but can see an obvious difference between the two. Does the videoing editing package make a difference, which software do you use ?
In my opinion, 4k is good for photography, and films. 1080p, is good for casual filming, so it actually looks like your there, because otherwise it would be to good to be true. but films, your not supposed to think that there is a camera, your supposed to imagine that your there, and that is real, so it must be the best quality that it can be. (unless animated film)
I see a color difference, that's about it. But here's the thing. you're using 2 different devices. also would it matter what resolution it's recorded at? for instance the quality max on youtube is 1080p. and my monitor is set to 1600x900. would i REALLY be able to tell the difference? :p
How many inches can I get from 105" 21:9 screen rescaled to 16:9 ratio? It's hard to decide between 98" 16:9 vs 105" 21:9, first doubt is valuable data to make the right choice, any advice is much welcome and appreciated.
The clouds and other movements are extremely choppy in the Samsung. Also grading options practically zero. Aaand most importantly, I've seen t4i videos with much more clarity and detail. Apart from using different cameras for a resolution comparison( -_- ) did you also use different export settings/editing suite for them. Just asking. Coz I'd be so happy if my phone can shoot better than a DSLR. But this looks a lil... well!
can't watch in 4k on my tablet, but you can definitely tell the difference... the pixels of the 4k are much more dense and are very closely packed into a larger area than the 1080p
If you are doing a comparison of 1080p and 4k. You atleast have to use same camera on both. It would have been a huge difference if both were in 1080p.
You can't compare it like this. You need to use the same device at both resolutions. Because of this, you can see the sky is definitely much clearer on 1080p and you need to upload the video in 4k.
lol...I have a mild astigmatism, and my vision blurs at a distance - the honest truth is that even 1080 looks clearer than reality. It's fascinating, but that just dawned on me - the camera captures it far more clearly than my eyes do, and then I watch it pretty close. Before just now, I've always wondered why high resolution always somehow seemed 'off' to me - now I get it! I guess ultra res will just never be my kind of thing. :p
in color it maybe because it is using samsung phone.... samsung tend to be saturated im usong s7 and g4 so.... yeah bassicaly if i compare to footage from both samsung has more saturated color the advantage of 4k is detail sorry for my eng
The naming conventions I can up with: 2160p - Ultra Definition (quadruple full high definition) 1440p - Mega Definition (quadruple high definition) 1080p - Super Definition (full high definition) 720p - High Definition
This video was uploaded at 1080p. The 4K (2160p) side isn't really 4K (2160p). I saw later in the comments that you did say the video has a part 2 with 4K (2160p). I'll go check it out.
4k looks slightly better close up, which is to be expected. But on distant shots the difference isn't really that noticeable, again which is to be expected. E.g... you'll not be able to see the individual feathers of a bird from 100 foot away
This video was edited and rendered in 4K, but when I went to upload this video to UA-cam back in January, it would only allow me to upload in 1080p. I do have another video (4K VS HD Part 2) that is uploaded in 4K if you're interested. Thanks for the comment!
There is no comparison, the 1080p looks so bad it looks like 720p. This is watching it on my Sony 4K 300ES where I have the resolution set at 2160p and now my 18 inch 1080p laptop _ I still can clearly see the difference even though the 4k is being down-scaled to the native resolution of my laptop. Dylan, did you do something to the 1080p side to make it look worse then it really is ?
No, your completely correct, although since this upload, two new parts to 4K VS HD have been created, both of which in 4K and the most recent shot entirely on the same camera. Thanks for the comment!
I think it's a little funny thing to note that 4K actually does look pretty good on a 2K monitor. I must ask, are you showing these pics in a zoom function, cause otherwise I'm trying to figure out how the sharpness of your camera in just regular 1080 fits in this comparison. If you can show us a vid that has everything at 1/2 scale zoom for youtube, that would help a lot.
4k HAS to do with color, 1080p camera's share color information over 4 pixels while 4k also does, but if you size 4k down to 1080p it looks so much better!!
I don't find great difference in analysis between hd and 4K analysis. Our eye can't see the difference when the number of pixel is high.I don't think that our eyes can see the difference between a photo from 12 megapixel camera and a photo from 16 megapixel. Also analysis is not the only thing which makes a picture better. There many other thing like saturation, color error, exposure, image noise. The number of pixel is not the only thing which makes a camera better
Evan Zhou I used a 1 tripod setup, with my main Canon DSLR on the tripod and the Samsung Galaxy Note 3 attached right beside it with a friction arm. I then synced up the video and audio in post, but that is about it as far as editing. All in all, a really seamless setup. I plan on using an identical setup when shooting my upcoming FZ1000 4K vs. Samsung Note 3 4K comparison. Thanks for the comment!
It is not the camera's resolution as much as the codec and bitrate. Try putting it against an Black Magic Pocket Cinema Camera and you will see a BIG improvement :)
1080p are fine , I am not worry about the 4K. I am sure that people's will duplicate 1080p near 4k just like they duplicate or change 1080i vs 1080p on the same device and tv solutions from regular cable upscale to HDMI. no need to worry about 4k pictures quality. leave 1080p tv alone than go by yourself a upscale blue Ray DVD player that can get near 4k pictures quality like 3.5K. 4k pictures looks like a homemade video.
4K looks so beautiful in 1080p

Jondog13Gaming it’s upscaled to 4K in 1080p doesn’t mean it isn’t.
I'll show this to anybody who says 1080p and 4K don't make any difference on a 1080p screen! Great comparison!

Those things are getting more expensive every time and the thing is that people don't really need this kind of things but they just want it to show off that they have the most expensive and up to date stuff ,for me 1080 still works wonders and I can't tell the difference unless I use a dam mega zoom
Nice job showing us 4K in 1080p! I only really went searching for this kind of comparison because I found a video with 4K on it. IT IS POSSIBLE.
It's nuts that a phone can have better quality than most 1080p cameras that cost more.
Now THAT is awesome
I'm watching it in 1080p but can see an obvious difference between the two. Does the videoing editing package make a difference, which software do you use ?
I wouldn't know if the video editor makes a difference only because I've used the same on forever, but I use Final Cut Pro X to edit.
Aspectrum I see that now and agree. However the video does show the stunning clarity of 4K which really is something else.
Can clearly see the difference between the two, even when viewed on my note 2.nice video. Thanks
Thanks for the comment!
(unless animated film)
just comparison, and look at which one would be better for vlogging, and professional film making
I see a color difference, that's about it. But here's the thing. you're using 2 different devices. also would it matter what resolution it's recorded at? for instance the quality max on youtube is 1080p. and my monitor is set to 1600x900. would i REALLY be able to tell the difference? :p
4K is so crisp. Looking into buying a 4K TV. Even on my current 1080p monitor 4K is awesome!
Thanks for doing this. Very, very cool. Even with only a 1080 screen , the difference is amazing.
How many inches can I get from 105" 21:9 screen rescaled to 16:9 ratio? It's hard to decide between 98" 16:9 vs 105" 21:9, first doubt is valuable data to make the right choice, any advice is much welcome and appreciated.
I'm watching on 480p but still looks awesome on 4k!
But this looks a lil... well!
+Yash Aditya your monitor is crap then.
Wow, the difference is much bigger than i expected. Nice that 4k will probably be mainstream soon :P
The 4K side is clearly better. The lines around the windows, the edges of the building, everything looks much sharper.
can't watch in 4k on my tablet, but you can definitely tell the difference... the pixels of the 4k are much more dense and are very closely packed into a larger area than the 1080p
Im viewing this in 720p hd, and I can already tell the 4k has much more rich coloring detail and fidelity, and of course sharpness!
in color it maybe because it is using samsung phone.... samsung tend to be saturated im usong s7 and g4 so.... yeah bassicaly if i compare to footage from both samsung has more saturated color the advantage of 4k is detail
sorry for my eng
確かに全然違いますね。特に色味。
4Kの方が自然に見えますよ。
The naming conventions I can up with:
2160p - Ultra Definition (quadruple full high definition)
1440p - Mega Definition (quadruple high definition)
1080p - Super Definition (full high definition)
720p - High Definition
This video was uploaded at 1080p. The 4K (2160p) side isn't really 4K (2160p). I saw later in the comments that you did say the video has a part 2 with 4K (2160p). I'll go check it out.
4k looks slightly better close up, which is to be expected.
But on distant shots the difference isn't really that noticeable, again which is to be expected.
E.g... you'll not be able to see the individual feathers of a bird from 100 foot away
This is not "4k (3840 x 2160) versus HD (1920 x 1080)"
This is Full HD (1920 x 1080) versus HD (1280 x 720)
This video was edited and rendered in 4K, but when I went to upload this video to UA-cam back in January, it would only allow me to upload in 1080p. I do have another video (4K VS HD Part 2) that is uploaded in 4K if you're interested. Thanks for the comment!
Dylan Lierz so you knew it wasn’t 4K but lies and uploaded it anyway
I always thought you couldn't better with HD. I was wrong. 4K is much sharper.
Yes, it's rather noticable. On my opinion, Canon wins in all aspects if we talk about professionally looking footage.
LOL ...... WE ARE WATCHING 4K AT youtube 1080p .
tornado600rr Scaled comparisons are solid comparisons nontheless. You should remove your troll comment.
tornado600rr doesn't matter, the capturing devices are important
Great video, nice view!
Whats the name of the song?
Wow next gen games are really showing off!
I don't understand which one looks better, both look good in one or the other way
Watched this on my Sony 4k TV and was very impressed.
1080p is the highest option, thereby making it difficult to judge the difference.
It was really helpful to understand 😎
4k is also about bitrate. watching this on a 1080p monitor with youtube also set to 1080p will still make you see results.
Muchas gracias,hermosa información.
UA-cam supports up to 8K resolution so why did you upload at 1080p?
Whats up with the wavy look in the 4k?
Que buenas comparaciones
Why do the coulours of the buildings seem to be mutch brighter then those of the 1080P version?
cant do a comp if the sbs is only rendered to 1080......or did i miss smthn cuz i dont even see 1440 in the options
No, your completely correct, although since this upload, two new parts to 4K VS HD have been created, both of which in 4K and the most recent shot entirely on the same camera. Thanks for the comment!
is very very beatifuuuul babbbyy
Dylan Lierz - Please share with us the melody playing in the background
First camera to do 150-200mbps h.264 120fps UHD will be fully utilizing the standard.
Amazing video quality in Samsung Note 3, its reminded to Samsung NX500 with amazing 4K video quality....
Is it me or it seems like the 1080p image was being dumped down? My 1080p movies are much sharper than that.
Were you filming 1080p with a microwave oven? Looks like 360p. I've watched youtube vids in 1080p and they look far better.
Yes!... it`s true for videorecording too... Canon have a huge problems with color reproduction... They see our world differently.... Unfortunately....
4k HAS to do with color, 1080p camera's share color information over 4 pixels while 4k also does, but if you size 4k down to 1080p it looks so much better!!
This is true, my latest video compares 4k downscaled to 1080p versus just regular 1080p, it is does look significantly better!
The number of pixel is not the only thing which makes a camera better
nicely done sumsung
Amazing
Thanks!
Video quality is awesome, thanks for sharing!!!
Please what is the music playing its gorgeous:)
honestly the 1080 looks better, but seems to be the lighting coloration vs anything else.
since youtube can't do 4k, how is this supposed to work?
Though the 4K looks great, has a very warm tone
Can you briefly explain the method of which the two images are shot then compared?
Evan Zhou I used a 1 tripod setup, with my main Canon DSLR on the tripod and the Samsung Galaxy Note 3 attached right beside it with a friction arm. I then synced up the video and audio in post, but that is about it as far as editing. All in all, a really seamless setup. I plan on using an identical setup when shooting my upcoming FZ1000 4K vs. Samsung Note 3 4K comparison. Thanks for the comment!
I think the difference between the videos is not in resolution but in contrast, maybe OLED are used in 4K screen and LED in HD screen :-P
Among maaany other issues with this video, it's not HD (which is 720p), but Full HD (1080p)
It is not the camera's resolution as much as the codec and bitrate. Try putting it against an Black Magic Pocket Cinema Camera and you will see a BIG improvement :)
This just compares Samsungs 4K scaled down to 1080P vs the Canons native 1080P, which looks better?
1080p are fine , I am not worry about the 4K. I am sure that people's will duplicate 1080p near 4k just like they duplicate or change 1080i vs 1080p on the same device and tv solutions from regular cable upscale to HDMI. no need to worry about 4k pictures quality. leave 1080p tv alone than go by yourself a upscale blue Ray DVD player that can get near 4k pictures quality like 3.5K. 4k pictures looks like a homemade video.
Thanks! :)
Beautiful and stunning! Amazing.
Thank you!
