Robbie has a "punch me" face.
Civil disobedience goes much farther back in American history. It's been a crucial part of most campaigns for change in our history including the labor rights movement during the brutal era of The Guilded Age (domination by Robber Baron capitalism), back to the movement to end slavery and even before that for the movement to separate from England.
If only John Peter Zenger was a name more Americans were familiar with, to say nothing of Runnymede.
Civil disobedience is hard to organize because one provocateur can ruin everything. The campus protests were forced to close their ranks against non-students -- they would have been much better off if they'd been able to ask for the participation of the general public. But they learned early on that as soon as they did, someone that no one knew and who wasn't with anyone would start babbling about Jews.
The best organized groups had a single spokes, and attempts by the media to sift through the protestors until they could find one who made silly arguments were balked because everyone responded to questions with the "talk to our spokesperson". I've heard the press considered this dirty pool, which is weird -- they deal with communications departments in every other context without even thinking about it.
The ADL publicly called on the protests to be "infiltrated".
Dismiss Biden and find a candidate not PRO GENOCIDE!
That would be Dr. Jill Stein with the Green Party
They can't do that. They'd have to accept all the other policy positions that would go along with being anti-genocide. Hardly any Democrats in that category anyway, and why bother when you can just blame citizens instead of taking responsibility.
Why, I've seen bigger crowds at Walmart. This is for now a teeny tiny protest and a small group of students that it.

Protest certainly helped to end US war crimes and agression in Indochina. But it was ultimately the resistance of the Vietnamese that ended the war. But protest here did raise the domestic costs of aggression as the US could not declare a national mobilization WW2 style, which was very good for the economy.
Escalating the war WW2 style wasn't a realistic option in 1968. Johnson quit and Nixon said he had a secret plan to end the war. His desire not to oversee the U.S. loss of the war led to U.S. gradually turning things over to the South Vietnamese and the withdrawal of U.S. combat troops in 1973, Then South Vietnam was overrun in 1975. What is certain to happen, however, is more political contentiousness regardless of who wins this fall's presidential election. BTW, I'm also a former journalist and political science/journalism professor and I lived through the Vietnam War era.
@@chrisburnett9905 Yeah and as Nixon was limiting the ground support for the client dictatorship in the South, the brunt of the war shifted to the bombers and under his watch 4.5 million tons of bombs fell on Indochina in a vain effort to sustain the client regime the US backed in the South. And Nixon managed to widen the war by expanding it to Laos and Cambodia. And my point about a national mobilization is well taken. Fighting a guns and butter war isn't efficient. By the way, I also have a degree in political science. But credentials aren't really needed to understand things in the social sciences. All it requires is an ability to read and elementary common sense. Hopefully you're right about political consciousness, but I'm afraid another show put on by both factions of the Business Party will do nothing more than validate the status quo.
@@chrisburnett9905We won in Vietnam. Our definition of "winning" was different than the WW2 definition. Our goal was triangular diplomacy. We wanted to drive a wedge between Russia and China. In order to "win" in the traditional sense we needed 1 million boots on the ground. The pentagon knew this, LBJ and Nixon/Kissinger knew this. We wanted to put as much pressure on China as possible. Remember China had issues with Vietnam leadership at the time. Nixon said he would pull the troops out. Which he did in a gradual way. He used the navy and air force more than troops. We won that war because our goals were different than traditional war. That was also the war where we created "counter terrorism." That was under the JFK administration though.

@@jpenirYeah well since we only have two factions of thr Business Party to choose from you have a point. Personally I detest both of these elderly has beens. But a little balance is order. Trump inherited a rolling economy from Obama. Lower gas prices isn't what it's made out to be since burning more hydrocarbons threatens the survival of the species. And did everything he possibly could to take care of his big energy donors by scrapping almost every piece of environmental protection legislation on the books. He never came close to securing the border as even ultra MAGA congressman Chip Roy will tell you. He was never the anti establishment peace guy everyone proclaims he was. He did manage to achieve the unique distinction of having dropped more bombs and ordering more drone strikes than his two predecessors put together. He attempted, rather comically, to coup the Venezuelan government and tried another coup here on Jan 6th. He took care of the military industrial complex rather handsomely as he increased defense spending by more than $100 billion over Obama. Holding faculty hostage is despicable. I hope that that old man is not proud of what he did or anybody who had participated in that type of disgusting behavior. Every citizen has their right to peacefully protest, but If peaceful protests cannot contain themselves without becoming violent or wherein you start breaking the rules or the laws, then there has to be parameters on that. The issue with the protests now is the inclusion of hate speech, the intimadation of protected classes and people's, antisemitic speech and calls for violent actions, which in no way is protected under free speech and unfortunately most citizens apparently don't understand that and these people will have to face the consequences of their actions whether they understand what the consequences are or not. It's just sad that a lot of these young people have been set up by people to fall victim to this situation without understanding what the consequences of their actions truly will be.

I never knew that part of the protest in 68 involved them holding a faculty member hostage that is disturbing behavior and it should not have been tolerated then and it should never be a reason to justify occupying a Columbia building now. These students are infuriating and it is comical for them to think that protest at the places in which they have been protesting is in any way going to affect change in the governments and governing bodies involved in this war. Protest at the White House protest at government things, put the pressure on the right people. If you're not doing that, then everything you're doing is basically nonsensical and useless and you're justification for doing any of it should not be tolerated because of how ineffective it is.
Protests have already led to administrations looking at their schools' investments. These things take time. The US dragged our feet re: divesting from apartheid. But it did eventually happen. Protests were part of a larger campaign. So are these protests.
