Best demo of the DSL5CR so far. The sound it makes at 5:28 cinched the deal for me. I just bought it two weeks ago and can't stop playing it. Best amp I've ever owned.
@@baron7012 hi, I'm thinking of buying this amp, but I saw a video on UA-cam that said it has poor sound quality when using headphones. I would love to hear what you think about the sound through headphones. Thanx.
Run this amp through an extension cab and it becomes a complete different beast. It's great on it's own through the stock speaker but through a cab it becomes incredible. I actually like the tone substantially more than any of the bigger dsl anps . I own a 40cr and have rented a 20cr and as well as an old dsl 15 and the 5cr tone for my tastes kills them all . I have two 1 by 12 Cabs and a 2 by 12 cab I use with the 5cr and the variety of tones I can get by using different cabs is fantastic. . I have a dsl 40cr and a marshal mini jubilee and I hardly ever use them becuase the 5 cr through an extension cab sounds so much better .
Spend the extra $100 and buy the DSL 20 that has real EL 34's in it and run it at 10 watts. Sold my DSL 1 to buy the DSL 5, then sold that to get the DSL 20 which is a real Marshall that can do bedroom or stage. Don't waste your time and money on the little guys like I did, you will always want the 12 inch speaker and EL34 tubes.
Not bad advice if you gig regularly but I have the 5 and it can hang with a drum set in my garage no problem. It would probably get drowned out by drums and a larger louder guitar amp though, if the band is trying to be loud, but it’s perfect for a reasonable rehearsal volume For paying more and getting more power I’d just spring for the DSL40, since it switches to 20 and 5 watts, and has three channels. I think they go for around $900 right now, and the dsl5 went up to $650
I've heard a lot of bad reviews of the 20 on the comments sections of these reviews, a lot of people are saying the 5 and 40 sound amazing but they sold there 20s because it didn't sound great.
@@angloviking3798 Never heard that? I have had them all and the 20 turned down to 10 watts is incredible at home levels and has real el34 tone with a 12 inch speaker like a real amp...I have a greenback in mine and it is classic Marshall tone spot on. The 5 sounds like a practice amp with no bass or presence...just my experience.
Can you get decent sounds out of this amp at TV listening/ bedroom volume levels without your ears bleeding afterwards???? Most other reviews of this amp have the volumes set at, or near cranked levels.... Please let us know...Thanks!!!
I'm also in doubt between the dsl5 and the dsl1 ... I think that dsl5 is too powerful for an apartment with wall-to-wall neighbors. The saturation point of the valves is at a higher volume and I think at a low volume it does not sound the same. On the contrary, the clean ones have more stretch, for everyone's taste. The maintenance of the dsl1 is cheaper since it does not need Bias adjustment (Correct me if I am wrong). I'll end up buying the dsl1, I guess.
@@chrischamberlain2168 And does it sound as good attenuated as un attenuated? (I mean the quality of the sound) Anyway I would have 4 watts more than I think I would use, very rarely ... The problem I have now is that I can't find a stock of the dsl1c anywhere! Haha!
@@davidtorreetxebarria to be honest, I’ve only ever used it at 5 watts. I tend to use the clean channel as it takes pedals really well. What sort of music do you want to play on it? I never play it full blast but get a good sound from it. The dirty channel is good but tend not to use it as I like pedals. I will try the lower wattage this weekend and let you know what it sounds like.
@@chrischamberlain2168 Thanks for testing at low volume, it is something that I cannot test because there is no dsl5 in store. I'm a newbie in music and I want to find my sound ... but I would like to start with blues, rock and roll and some rock (I love Frusciante, Morello, the Rolling Stones ...). I'm not much into heavy or metal but I'll try;) As there is no stock of the dsl1c I could consider the dsl1h and a 12-inch screen (Although for the same price, or a little less, I have the dsl5c) or value a Blackstar ht1r, but it is a bit dark.
@@davidtorreetxebarria I tried it on the lower wattage today and it still sounded good. My advice is to wait until you can try both out to see which you prefer. I think the 1 watt version only has an 8” speaker and a lot of people say there is a noticeable difference in quality between an 8” and 10” speaker. I’ve never used an 8” speaker.
From this demo with SG it seems HB pickups react to clean channel only flat and cold if compared with single coils. At least this video shows this issue....of course with distortion everything changes..
I live in a flat. I am wondering if you crank the amp in 1 watt mode too activete the tubes, does it gets too loud for the flat? Can you compare it with a every day TV loudness or it gets much louder?
1 watt mode will not be too loud even if you crank the amp to get that sweet spot of your tubes, I am happy to make another detailed video if that would help :)
@@ahmedrashed78 that would be great. The thing is, Dsl1rc would be great for bedroom volume levels but I want to avoid it cause of 8" speaker. Maybe if you apply the boost pedal or if you connect it to the 2x12 cabinet?
@@AlenRukavina I'd always recommend 20w if you ever want to practice with a full band and a considerably loud drummer, 5w will not cut it and if it does it will not be at the sweet spot if the amp (i.e. Your headroom will be very limited), ofcourse you can mic the cab but assuming you don't want to complicate things it's better to have 20w or more for that extra headroom, stay tuned for the rest of your questions and I'll try to cover them in the next demo :)
Friend, is he next to the jcm 800 sc? Is the volume difference too big? And about the difference in value, do you think it justifies comparing the quality? Does the Dsl 5cr with maximum volume withstand tests?
Stand by, is exactly that. For standing by while you change guitars. Today a polly tune works way better for this. Lots of amps dont have em' there actually completely unnecessary too.
