PORT STANLEY DAY TRIP FROM TORONTO 🇨🇦 [What To See] 2020

- What to see and do in Port Stanley 🇨🇦 Ontario a great day trip from Toronto to a beautiful town with great shopping, restaurants and of course one of only 26 Blue Flag Certified Beaches in Canada. We spend the day in Port Stanley exploring the amazing beach, feels like Florida, we take a look at GT's bar and restaurant a fantastic place right on the main beach of Port Stanley, handy for a pub lunch or beverage of your choice. We visit Port Stanley in September 2020.
For lunch we have a local specialty of Pickerel and Chips take out from The Barnacles Pub, the Pickerel comes fresh from Lake Erie, in fact Port Stanley is home to a Great Lakes commercial fishing fleet. We enjoy our Pickerel lunch on the beach overlooking Lake Erie in bright sunshine.
After lunch we find the Port Stanley visitor centre and in the same building are very clean washrooms. We walk on the harbour walk all around to the pier and see Port Stanleys heritage lighthouse.
More fun things to see are window shopping in the boutiques and gift shops, find the Port Stanley Festival Theatre. We pose for our photo by the giant Perch Fish sign outside the Kettle Creek Inn.
Before heading home we stop in to see the Port Stanley Railway.
Port Stanley is a great town to visit, we highly recommend it to you, Port Stanley has lots to offer from beach fun to sophisticated restaurants and Inns.
This is our retirement travels during COVID-19 staying close to home and enjoying our province of Ontario.

Fresh Lake Pickerel is divine!
It was perfect and the Barnacles Pub has their own seasoned batter and the fish had a nice sweetness. One thing we didn’t mention was how heavy the fillets were lol.

When the Covid-19 restrictions are lifted we are hoping to do this local train 🚂 ride it goes to another lovely town of St Thomas .🍷

Hey Tina and Norm! That's awesome you guys went to Port Stanley for the day, and love that it's a fishing town. We would have so much fun there walking on the waterfront. Even though it's a Great Lake, with all the sand and beach area, it almost reminds us of being at the ocean. Maybe minus some big waves and the salt water LOLOL!! That's so great you guys are so close by the Lakes and you can just take a day trip there. Seems to us the beach wasn't crowded, which is the best time to go!! Even better they don't allow dogs on the beach. You know people don't like to pick up their dogs poop, no one wants to walk on that in the sand!! Ewww!! Those beach front houses were so nice, we wonder how much they go for? Your fish and chips looked amazing and can't believe how huge the fish pieces were.. definitely large enough to share! That will be great when the train is running again and you are able to take a ride. Always love to see the cool places you go and what you're up to!! Great video and love you guys to the mother effin' moon!!
Hi Bears and Butters thanks for joining us on our day out , we had a blast the 🎣 fish lunch was delicious 😋 glad we shared it it was huge . Those beautiful new beach houses cost around $800,000.00 Canadian dollars 🤩they looked gorgeous and two mins walk from the beach . These Blue Flag Beaches are great especially no dogs and the grooming of them was very neat. We did enjoy walking around the town, in Canada 🇨🇦 everywhere seems to go quieter after Labour day together with the COVID-19 it was so nice and quiet.
How are you both doing ? Is it still smoggy and hot with you , earlier this week parts in Ontario and other provinces got hit with a grey haze That lasted for 3-4 days but it’s gone today .

@@ThisIsOurRetirement We have had a few sunny days lately, but it's very hot. Over 100 the past few days. So the smog layer gets trapped in. The smoke was really horrible for about 4 days, and then it started to dissipate a bit. The fires are still going on, but it's not right next to where we live .. thank god!! There was an Earthquake on Saturday night at Midnight that was pretty strong and woke us right out of bed. But living in SoCal.. it's par for the course!! Glad to hear you guys are having some good weather, after some not great weather, and that things are nice and quiet up there!! We cant' say the same for here in the US!! LOLOL But at least it doesn't smell smoky, so we will take the small blessings right now!! We are just watching Football today as we are huge LA Rams fans. Not sure if you guys watch Sunday NFL football or anything!! :)

Thanks for the lovely report of my home town...love it! My uncle used to own a fish tug and it was my aunt who named that giant (perch) fish “quota” because of the government restrictions on the amount of fish they were allowed to catch. Lots of history here and you did a great job showcasing our beloved town. Thank you!!

Great to see you guys out and about. Going to these roadside attraction such as a large fish is one of my favorite things to do. So cool that you guys are so close to all those lakes. The beach looks so nice over there!!! It is getting pretty cold over here by where we live and the leaves are starting to change. Such a pretty town over there.

The beach is so clean! We love Great Lake Erie. I used to live on the US side in Duluth Minnesota / Superior Wisconsin at the tip of Lake Superior. Now we are in Texas so we miss the Great Lakes. Thank you so much for sharing this view of the lakes from the Canada side. Beautiful train. Donovan and I worked for a railroad. He was a Conductor and I was an Engineer. What a wonderful area Port Stanley is and even more spectacular with this radiant weather for your outing. Hard to believe it is a lake beach as it is huge! Great to see you out and about here. I grew up in Northeast Ohio and on the Ohio side of Lake Erie, perch is the big attraction at all the local fish houses, although “walleye” has its fans too.

@@CowboyJojosAdventures We are very lucky we haven’t actually had a lockdown just stay at home 🏡 orders, but we think folk are getting frustrated and tired and going out too much 🙂
@@ThisIsOurRetirement We are still the only state with strict restrictions and cases. New South wales has a few, but our other States a have done very well. There are Many Victorians that are not complying and heavy fines have been issued. It tells us that many people are sick of being in a lockdown situation and have to stay within a 5km bubble.
Great video, Norm and Tina. Port Stanley looks like an awesome place to visit with a beautiful beach right there in Lake Erie. My daughter lives on the Ohio side of Lake Erie in Vermilion. Lake Erie beaches in Ohio are not near that nice. Your fish lunch looked delicious! Thanks for sharing this awesome video!
Hi Sue & Bob, Yes it was just 50 miles directly across the lake to Cleveland from Port Stanley. The lake pickerel lunch was fantastic and that was a dinner for 1 lol, We hope you are both keeping well and not going too stir crazy!!

Thanks, yes it looks really nice. I have heard about the tax, but I moved here in Oct.2019 so I think this will only affect the newbees! Seems fair as they've worked more years than us "oldies" and got payed more than we did! 👍😎

Hi you two! You know I’ve never been out that way. Makes me want to do a road trip myself. We had a cottage on Quebec so our summers were either up at the cottage or driving down to Maine and then Cape Cod, in August. I’d love to see this area and I’d also like to see Georgian Bay, which by the film and photos I’ve seen, looks a bit like the West Coast! It’s fortunate that this is not too far from you. We have beautiful landscapes here close to Ottawa, but no massive beaches... and as you probably know, we are about a half hour from the St Lawerence Seaway... but you can see the US from there. It certainly doesn’t look anything like this!

Port Stanley blew us away it’s gorgeous not only the beach 🏖 but the downtown area is equally gorgeous we loved it . Our Pickerel 🎣 lunch was amazing 😉 maybe you need to put this place on your bucket list it’s not that far from you .

Lovely video!!! Of course, the best thing about lakes is that they are freshwater. I have never gotten used to the salt water thing. I don't think people really get how many lakes are in Canada. I went to highschool in Sudbury (Ontario). There are 330 lakes within its jurisdiction alone. Mind boggling. I remember my husband swimming for the first time in freshwater. He just couldn't believe it. Hope you guys are doing well xxx
Hi Karen, Fresh Water 💦 in future may well be the new gold rush and Canada as you say is sat on an enormous quantity of it. The other curiosity is the UK doesn’t eat fresh water fish. We hope your lock down or covid restrictions are not too bad. We are doing fine but covid numbers are forecast to rise here too.

Hi!! Another fab Saturday video, Port Stanley looked very charming. And looked very quiet? Did u see many people walking about while u were there? A nice escape for me today, here in UK things are not looking good at all with Covid cases rising. There is a lot of talk that we will be heading back into lockdown. It would be for 2 weeks possible to break community transmission. Government are calling it a "circuit break" and likely we will continue to have them on and off for at least 6 months!! What a thought! How are canadians doing with CV? Dxx
Hello Deborah! It was quite and probably because it was the week after our Labour day holiday which marks the end of summer, a lot of facilities in vacation towns close like the visitor centre in Port Stanley.
We are having a COVID spike in Ontario and the provincial government has rolled back the numbers allowed to congregate in events like parties, weddings, funerals and backyard bbq’s. We are not locked down and never have been but are advised to use caution and social distance. Face masks are mandatory inside all buildings and shops. Most restaurants do not have inside seating just patio and take out.

It’s Canada.....at least no icebergs at the moment lol, yes the water is cold but when it’s 86° it’s nice to cool off. Port Stanley has done a lot to invest for tourism and its always great to visit. It’s just 50 miles across the lake to Cleveland. Thanks for watching.
Port Stanley, nice area! Of all the Lake Erie towns I’ve been to this is one I’ve always thought of but have never been to....yet. I do believe though Norm the fish statue was a perch. Someone can correct me if I’m wrong. I can’t see all that well but I do see vertical stripes on its side. Betcha the fish dinner was amazing! Norm agrees it was a Perch we did research afterwards, you should visit it’s a lovely place it’s one of our favourite lake side towns we have been to . It was very quiet it was last Friday the week after Labour day , so things were starting to close down. Fish 🎣 dinner Was awesome and huge , hope you are well have a great weekend Cheers 🍺🍷👍
This Is Our Retirement I noticed the meal was large! Amazing how quiet these towns become after Labour Day isn’t it? It’s probably the best time to go for a visit unless you like crowds. I imagine covid could have something to do with the deserted atmosphere on the streets too. Thanks for the well wishes.

Like any other restaurant - the prices are getting pretty obscene for onion rings let alone a beer @ Buccaneers in Port Stanley.
The good news is the 6" short skirt dress code still seems to be in effect. Makes me wonder if it's still that same Greek owner that got in hot water a few years back for partaking in some of the tips the servers received.
