  • EPISODE OVERVIEW:
    So what happens when a young skateboarding phenom with the disease of addiction becomes a world-famous athlete traveling with his mentor and idol Tony Hawk, a record breaking TV and box office movie star with his friends from the MTV Jackass and Viva La BAM series, the first skateboarder spokesman for Gatorade working out with the Michael Jordan, a NY Times best-selling author, and paid serious money to be a celebrity guest at night clubs and public events?
    Check out this episode of the Remarkable People Podcast to hear Brandon Novak’s remarkable story of addiction, pride, losing millions of dollars, 12 failed times in rehab, and how he ended up on top after the 13th visit. Listen now to learn what made the different on that 13th visit to rehab, and how Brandon has stayed clean and sober and is celebrating 5 years sobriety anniversary today! 🙂
    GUEST BIO:
    From the highest highs, including sponsorship deals, hit movies and a bestselling autobiography, to the lowest lows, including stints in prison, rehab, and homelessness on the streets of Baltimore, Brandon Novak has lived a life that defies easy description. Recruited in his early teens as the nation’s next top professional skateboarder, Brandon traveled the world with Tony Hawk and was even the first pro-skater to ever be sponsored by Gatorade. He then went on to gain international fame as a cast member of the hit MTV “Jackass” movie series and infamous show “Viva La Bam.” He would go on to travel the world, appearing in mainstream media, famous for his outrageous antics and on-screen personality. Brandon signed a multi-book publishing deal based on his “New York Times” bestselling debut autobiography “Dreamseller.” All the while, however, he was battling a crippling addiction to heroin.
    Over the course of 21 years, Novak’s addiction slowly cost him his career, friendships and freedom, leading to more than 13 stays in rehab, and an extended prison sentence. His book “Dreamseller” is one of Amazon.com’s top 50 book sellers as of May 2018 and is in its 9th print edition. Brandon released the first ever addiction graphic novel following “Dreamseller.”
    Today Brandon is five years sober and travels the country sharing his message of inspiration and help so that anyone who is struggling can recover. Most recently, he was the keynote speaker for the DEA’s Heroin and Opioid Youth Summits. He is now a Certified Interventionist Professional (CIP), a certification which is held by only 163 people in the entire country. His third book, “The Streets of Baltimore,” will be released in Summer 2020.
    FEATURED QUOTE(S):

    I enjoyed this, somewhat different from other Brandon stuff, would be awesome if hosts asked more direct questions and delved more detailed into his relationship with the skating world and teammates when his drug use became known, his day to day life as an addict and what that consisted of, his relationships with particular Jackass/Viva cast members and his ability to hookup with girls at random which is his greatest talent

      I've heard Novak refer to these kind of situations as being "divinely inconvenienced." It isn't until something goes horribly wrong that 1 of 2 things happen. 1) death 2) sobriety. I'm so glad he made it. He is changing lives with his victory.
      Side note: I'm 90 days sober today. Thank you, Mr. Novak!

    I've always had love for novak, that being said I couldn't help but notice over the years that the dude can only ever talk about himself wether he's on or off drugs. He has similar traits of a narcissist if I'm being honest.

      Thanks for the comment Teck Tonik! While we never know what goes on behind closed doors, hopefully Brandon's journey is real. Either way, I know it has inspired many others to get clean, and stay clean, and that is a good thing. From my conversations with Brandon he seems legit and I am thankful he shared his story with our community. As for us, we just need to just stay the course ourselves and help as many people as we can along the way. Thanks again for the great comment and God bless my friend! ✌

      @@sharonbennett9953 everyone judges so that's absurd you'd say that, secondly I didn't say he is a Narcissist for sure I said he has similar traits of a narcissist. Being an addict myself I'm aware that narccisism is very common with drug addicts and I have life experience rooting it out. Doesn't mean I know him for sure, doesn't mean he is in fact a narcissist just means he has traits of a narcissist and that is my opinion.

      All facts and data can be interpreted differently. There is always only one truth though. First thing that came to mind was when scientists found a tooth and made a whole story up about the missing link supporting evolution. They came up with an elaborate story because of their belief system, world view, and filters; not science. The truth was that the tooth was from a pig. When unbiased scientists studied the facts and interpreted the data correctly, the truth was oblivious. So in regards to Hitler and how "good" things happen to "bad" people, and "bad" things happen to "good" people, those are all facts and data points, but can be interpreted differently based on world view. What's the truth though? We may not understand certain things, but there's always a Good reason. satan roams the earth to cause chaos and trouble. he exists to hurt people and keep them from believing in God. This is what I know. There's a real God, and a real satan. The deceiver, satan, protects his followers until they are of no more use to him, then he throws them away. God NEVER causes pain, but He does sometimes allow it because in the end, it will somehow ultimately honor and benefit those who trust in Him. So this conversation could go on forever, but start reading in the New Testament book of John. You'll find answers there.

      @DavidPasqualone  4 роки тому +1

      Morgan Lovejoy My apologies if it seemed we were lying. That was not the intent in any way. Brandon’s story is of course Brandon’s story. Hence, it will be very similar every time he shares. However, in this episode there are topics and discussions not found in most interviews. So yes, much of his story is the same. However, new content is brought out in this episode. Bottom line though, if we disappointed you or you felt we were lying, my sincerest apologies.

      You ever think its a person gaining more insight to mistakes of the past, its not lying rather than trying to reach people in different ways with the same story perhaps told slightly different. I been following him for over a decade and yes he was a liar and heck not saying he is perfect now, but give the man credit where its do and if you are just going to be negative say nothing at all. This one video could help and probably already has in turning someone's life around which can heal a whole family and if enough people do it, a whole community. Another thing to note is he was so messed up for so long its hard to put pieces back together right away.

    • @DavidPasqualone
      @DavidPasqualone  2 роки тому

      I think so, and hope so. From what I know he’s doing great and started his own rehab homes to help people in his home town. All of us have ups and downs, but it seems he has really found his purpose and is doing good with his life to help others. With that said, I always try to remember that every person has their own struggles and successes, but God loves and is there for us all. He never leaves us or forsakes us. Even when it “feels” like we’re alone, we never are. That’s why I respect and love people, but put my trust and hope in the Lord. He’ll never fail us. 😇 Have a Remarkable night Chris, happy New Year, and hope 2022 is your best year yet my friend! 💪🏼

      People want to talk about fake or inauthentic like it cant inspire others. Rocky, or Forest Gump,was fake but the STORY can bring something out of someone if it hits the person a certain way. Sobriety isnt a battle fought once and its done. It's a continuation of a struggle within each addict individually. What works for one may fail for another. His positive "fake" story means more then your "real" opinion. People stuck in their own shit existence cant accept someone else could escape that same situation. Misery loves company
