Gunnar just crushes this, taking the song to a whole new level. With so many inventive fills, syncopation, different tones, and distinct sections ... OMG. I love those extra hits he throws in at 3:01. I jog to this on repeat!
I saw them two days ago in Connecticut and was blown away. The drummer is really, really good!!! The whole performance was great! It was a _tiny_ venue and I was right up front the whole time. Alan Wilkis (Big Data himself!) was super friendly, too. :) So was the whole band! L1ZY (Lizy?) was super! I want to see this band win Grammies. They're WAY better than a lot of bands I hear on the radio. (Get off my lawn, darn kids!) The bands opening up were Fitness (FitnessWasTaken.com) and Castle Comer. THEY were great, too!!!!
@@GunnarOlsenMusic I saw you last night with Puscifer in Seattle and had to find this to tell you you were amazing!! Congrats on the success, you've earned it dude!!
Long Term Effect You're right, it is groovy. One thing I picked up on that I venture is overlooked by many is his regular muting of the crash cymbals. It is even more evident in the studio take, but I really dig how he, Gunnar I gather, is very deliberate with the mutes. We always see drummers reach to mute as fast as they can, if at all. Whereas here you see the stick man consciously let it ring out until he doesn't want it ringing anymore. As it were right on the back beat. We always put our focus on when a note begins and therefore underestimate how it's equally important when a note ends. Gunnar has this figured out, and as a result this groove can really breath. I always find myself complaining that drummers over use cymbals, but it appears Mr. Olsen and I could be mates. My name is Mr. Funk and I approve this Big Data message.
Just watched it again for the umpteenth time. Great performance of a really cool song. Both vocalists nailed it and were totally in the moment. Bass was like a giant irregular electric heartbeat on acid. Loved it. Thanks for sharing.
I love all the live performance videos so much. Alan wilkis glitchy robot dancing and nervous expressions are so funny and perfect and lizzy ryan's voice is awesome, sometimes I even prefer it to the original (the bombs over brooklyn one OMG can we have that as a studio recording please...). And obviously there's gunnar olsen. Wish I could see them live
Fantastic! Just when I had given up on anything new or meaningful from the piss the music companies put out... A driving bass beat and funky lyrics... rock lives on!!!!!
That is an amazing bass line. This duo should stay together, they harmonize very well and I think the guy may be the next Elvis Costello. So don't leave the band too soon young lady.
Who's the female vocalist? She's my favorite of the female vocalists in the live stuff I've watched thus far. Great voice and presence, if a bit shy. And the shy thing adds to the allure, so... yeah!
My daughter's first concert at 6 yrs old. Big Data opening for Fitz and the Tantrums in Detroit. Killer show. Made me a fan for life. And my daughter too. 💜
It is really nice to listen to a band play live and have it sound better then the studio track. That shows that you have real Talented and Enjoy what you are doing, Nice!!! :)THx
This song is excellent! Awesome bass sound! The bass looks like it might be a Fender American Original 70s Jazz Bass, roundwound strings, played with a pick, through an orange Boss DS-1 Distortion pedal and the red color pedal looks like it's probably the MXR dyna comp, the white pedal is probably a Boss tuner (or it could be the Boss Delay pedal - those are white also), the other pedal shown in this video might be a bass chorus pedal. The bass amp in this video is an Ashdown, you can see the Ashdown Engineering Logo on the bass speaker cabinet in this video. The bass amp could be ABM500 EVO II Bass Amp Head. But in another live video of the song "Dangerous" (rooftop at the Historic Hollywood Tower) the bass player is shown using an Ampeg SVT-CL Classic Bass Head. Yeah it could have been good if they actually added much more to it and made it into a real song. As is it just repeats the same thing over and over and over.... It gets old quickly and not that good overall.

+James Barr To me he is the best Gunnar Olsen, he has a youtube channel, best drummer I've seen in ages!
+Ernani Joppert Gunnar, Justin Nace (Pvris) and Jason Gerycz (Cloud Nothings) 3 top drummers IMO right now. Personally know Jason
great place to get lost at
I thought that was Gunnar Olsen!
Bass line of the year. But damn that drummer steals the show. I really like how the drums were mic'd in this performance too. Good stuff!

Listening to "Anger Rising". Best damn chord progression ever written.
Imagine being Cantrell and being able to play like that for 1 day.
