    Caught one of the last trains to Michigan central station from boston in th 80's. Even back then before restoration when I walked into the hall I said "wow." Thanks to Ford for brining the building back. Great if it could be a train station again.

    Go behind the train station on 14th and wabash there is a concrete building which my dad worked in until he couldn't anymore. I have the bronze plaque for that building built in 1925 and the then owners diacarded such a plaque. Whoever owns that building now just let me know because i have all kinds of classic pics and other memorobilia from that building that some people wished to dispose of at one time. Seems like the whole area is alive again. I have many many memories from those same grounds growing up..

      It's more important they restored the building. Trains can come later if at all. Detroit beats New York because Pennsylvania Station has not been rebuilt!

      It seems more likely than not to have trains once again albeit it could be years or a decade. I read a study about the eventual rail or high speed rail line between Chicago and Quebec City which would stop in Detroit, Windsor, Toronto, Ottawa, Montreal, and maybe somewhere else on the US side but it would make sense that Michigan Central is the international station considering it's location for the route looks perfect and they wouldn't have to build another station.

      Bill Ford is working on that idea. Ford would like to see trains back at the station.

      Native Detroiter. 40 years lol. I thought ford purchased the train station for their ev engineers from Maddy Moroun. Side note: hilarious when the city complained about decay of the train station, then he put in new windows and left it.

    They really should show what the original station ooked like before it was left open for vandals stole and damaged all the original trim and fixtures. The previous owners never secured the building, all the upper floor windows were left open for decades to allow rain to come in. The amazing thing is the bui!ding was in use in the 80's. ( 1980 )

    Why did they rear down the original Assembly Plant of the Model T? It would have made a great early automobile museum.

    • @jameswest5723
      @jameswest5723 2 місяці тому +8

      They did not. The original factory, the piquette pant, has been a museum for many years. it is located in midtown detroit off piquette and beaubien. The other model T factory is the highland park ford plant, which model t production was shifted to in 1910 for a 88% decrease in total assembly time per car. It is located in highland park on woodward just north of the davison, not open to the public but you can go look at it.
