    I have washed many how to videos BUT yours is the best. in a small amount of time you explained as you do it and if a mistake is made you show how to correct it. Very helpful. I am now ready to start creating as I am now comfortable how easy you made it look. Thank you very much. You are an awesome teacher!!

      Thank you for your generous words. I am so pleased you feel you can start creating your own rag rugs. On my website www.ragrugsbyerin.com I have over 120 free videos. They are organized there better than UA-cam allows. No account needed just click on the blue link in the Playlist description and view as many times as you like for free. My Playlist Rag Rug Information and Help Videos has over 40 videos many to answer questions I get asked. 😊

    Thank you, Erin, for all your videos. Because of you, I have learned how to make sheets into yarn, and how to make that into beautiful rugs. I have recently finished my 1st..a good sized oval, peach and pale green, with a rosebud sheet as my main. It came out beautifully, and I've gotten many compliments on it..family and friends were very impressed. I'm getting ready to make a maroon, navy, and forest green one for my son's room, and I'm going to follow this pattern to make it rectangular. Thank you so much for giving me this new skill! My favorite way to decorate my home is with things I've made myself. Thanks for helping me add another skill to my list, Erin, you're the best!

      Erin Halvorsen Thank you, Erin, for taking the time to speak with me! I will definitely try to connect with you, it might take awhile, though, I've only just started using UA-cam (my son set me up to make comments, and he's back at college now, and I don't know how to email and such yet! My family says I'm stuck back in 1880..they're hoping I get as far as the 1930's someday! They're such comedians!) Thanks again, I will be in touch sometime! Please keep making your wonderful videos, I love them!🍀

    This is awesome! My great grandmother, great aunt and aunt always would use their bread bags, fabric scraps, etc to crochet things out of them. Thank you for keeping that tradition alive with giving people the idea.

    Your video tutorial here is very helpful indeed! I love crafting, but I have never been able to crochet, as the diagrams in books just confused me! Watching you work is wonderful, you explain everything very clearly, work slowly enough to follow, and I find that I am now inspired to try this lovely craft, myself! I am disabled and I use crafts as a form of therapy,I find that it keeps my mind away from physical pain when I am immersed in something that I am creating, and the positive emotional boost from completing a project is very helpful to combat depression. It gives one something to look forward to, when you know that you have craft project to work on, and seeing the work grow must be very satisfying - I can guess that this might be a very addictive craft! Thank you so much, this really has been extremely helpful!

    Hi Erin. I just happened to find your videos. That was about 10 hours ago and I can't get enough. I am really enjoying them all. I can't wait to start one and also to cruise the thrift stores and garage sales as well as the back of my linen closet. I didn't know there were rugs that could be done like this. This will be easier to do watching TV than my quilting. I now have another addicting hobby involving fabric! I'm from Central IL. Do you have a website and do you also show your quilts on You Tube? That's what I usually search for but I lucked out today somehow hitting on your channel and your rugs. You (and your "cameraman") do great videos and your rugs look awesome. I've always wanted a nice "braided" type of homey rug but new ones are so expensive. This will be fun! Thanks, Gale

      @RagRugsbyErin  8 років тому +2

      +Gale H. I am glad you found my channel. I have 55 videos at present. I do not have any videos on quilting. There are so many very experienced quilters that I have much to learn. My husband is far better on the sewing end of the quilting. I really enjoy the design end. I just added the videos on crocheting over rope to make a basket. It is a fun project. I do not have a website but am working on one at present. I hope by June it will be ready. I did finally start a Facebook page a couple months ago. Rag Rugs by Erin Updated me if time permits. Thank you for viewing and have a great weekend.

    Are you going through the back loop, the front loop, or both? It looks kinda like you go through the back loop on the 1st row (the one that goes back onto the first (chain row?) you made, then through both loops on all the following rows, is that correct?

    • @RagRugsbyErin
      @RagRugsbyErin  7 років тому +1

      Are you watching on a phone, tablet or computer? You are basicly correct. I am going through both. The first row will be with either one strand above or 2 strands above it depends on how you flip your work. The trick is to be consistent. There are many ways to do these rugs and do what works for you. Hope that helps.

    • @RagRugsbyErin
      @RagRugsbyErin  8 років тому +1

      +D Johnsen My pleasure. Yes, t-shirt yarn can be used for this rug. On that runner I used 1 1/4" - 1 1/2" strips with an N hook. If you would like to use a Q hook make your strips 1 3/4" - 2" strips. I hope you have fun.

    thank you for the information, is there someplace where I can ask more questions if need be??? The rug is so pretty but to have short pieces of color do they come from sheets also, or maybe pillow cases?? I will have to go to the thrift store and see what
    I can find, I was using material like 100 % cotton fabric.....

    • @RagRugsbyErin
      @RagRugsbyErin  8 років тому

      You can ask here or my email is ragrugsbyerin@gmail.com . That rug is made with sheets and pillowcases. They were left overs from other rugs. You can just pick 3 or 4 different sheets and alternate them and that would work great too. If the material is from well used clothes that has been washed numerous times you maybe just fine.

      +Nagamani Narayana In the first video segment of all the rug I show and talk about the tools you will need. This rug I used a N hook or 10 mm hook. You could easily go as big as Q hook if that feels more comfortable in your hand. My favorite hook at present is a P or 14 mm. With a 14 mm I usually use about 11/2" to 2" strip. Hope that helps.

    I just found your great video to make crocheted rag rugs and i can wait to start. I ordered a large crochet hook. I got the idea to make rugs after i did some purging in my sewing fabric stash and just hate to get rid of perfectly good fabric thats too dated to use. I have a question, You don't worry about the cut edges fraying in the rug? I want to put the cut edges on the inside of the "yarn". Thanks so much

    • @RagRugsbyErin
      @RagRugsbyErin  8 років тому

      +Hilya Cook I make my rugs mostly with sheets. If you use fabric from your stash I would wash it many times and dry it in the dryer many times. I am mostly ripping all my sheets and not cutting. There is always a little fraying but minimal. You may want to view my video in the Playlist "Rag Rug Information and Help Videos" it is called Choose the Correct materials and Easy Rag Rug Laundering. Here is the link ua-cam.com/video/m8CbLNHdjCw/v-deo.html

      +pharmgirl1955 I am glad you subscribed to my channel and I hope you enjoy yourself making your runner rag rug. If you watch my video "Crochet OVAL Rag Rug Tutorial for Beginners 101 Part 1" ua-cam.com/video/z_M1TU4eMb8/v-deo.html start watching about the 5 minutes mark and again about the 12 minute mark I talk about how I keep my stitches consistent and even. Of course there is nothing that will replace some practice. On the runner if you let your stitch get too loose the rug will get wider as you go. Just lay it down every couple rows and eyeball it. I am sure you will do a fabulous job. Enjoy the rest of your weekend!

    Hi Erin, Thanks for your videos. They are very helpful. I have been tearing sheets to make my yarn but I tried your method of making a continuous strip. It is really so much faster but one thing I'm concerned about. I seem to have little bits of thread along the edges of the yarn. Does this create a problem with a finished rug? Monica

    Just found your site today, and I had to subscribe! I have not crocheted for many years, but your teaching style in your videos will get me over that hump, I think. Like some of your readers, I have a large fabric stash that I'm trying to work through, so I think I will try using this idea first on a smaller scale to make placemats. Do you think this would work? Could you please suggest what size hook and how wide to cut strips? Many of my fabrics are old, ugly prints that were donated to me, so I'm not sure of cotton/poly ratio or if 100% cotton. Unfortunately, sewing and many of the home arts seem to be dying out in my area; I doubt that I could find homes for these fabrics, and I just hate to have it go to waste. Thank you for your help.

    • @RagRugsbyErin
      @RagRugsbyErin  6 років тому

      Great. Glad you found my channel and are looking forward to making some rugs, place mats or maybe try a table runner. Yes, you can use up your stash but wash and dry it in the dryer at least once. This will help it maintain it shape when washed later. Use any of your fabric however try not to mix stretchy fabric with non stretchy. It makes the process more challenging. If it has too much poly it will not rip well and you will need to cut the fabric. Depending on how thick you want your place mats is how wide you want your strips and what size hook. I would want my place mats thinner. I would suggest a 12 mm hook and 1" to 1.5" strips. Hear is a link to a video on made on choosing hook sizes. You should find it helpful. ua-cam.com/video/Y6Ap1ZbZRe0/v-deo.html Also you may want to look at my Facebook page, Rag Rugs by Erin. Awesome. Thank you for subscribing. I think because you are new to rag rug making and you are wanting to make such a large rug the best choice to start off with the runner rag rug of many colors. You can do it in a pattern or use theme colors instead of many colors. An oval is a great beginner rug however that large of an oval without prior practice could pose challenging. Hope that helps and look forward to hearing how you progress. You can view my Facebook page, Rag Rugs by Erin, and see rugs that others have shared and it helps the creative juices flow. +Sarah Spradlin Yes, T-shirt yarn would work great as well. Good luck and perhaps send me a picture of your finished rug to ragrugsbyerin@gmail.com. I will be posting some of my viewers finished rugs. I will be using their first names and general locations. (Ex. Erin from Florida)

    how many sheets or how many yards would it take to make a rug

      It depends on the size of the rug and how thick you make it. Probably 3 or 4 queen sheets if you make your sheet yarn 1.5" to 1.75" wide. Hope that helps!!
