    That made me so happy to hear you say that, Doug. As someone who loves the prequels (even with their faults), I'm so glad this show exists to help make my favorite era of SW feel more complete.

    • @artsman412
      @artsman412 2 роки тому +23

      I've always described the prequels as a beautiful, well meaning, mess. The designs are great, there is a real attempt to tell an epic story of the rise of tyrants and the fall of heroes, but even I can admit that it fell a little flat in the execution; particularly in the writing and acting department. Does it have flaws? Yes (show me a movie that doesn't). But is it as bad as everyone says? For me, no, and I still love them as part of the saga.

    • @DarkKnightofAnime

      I always believed George Lucas has a lot of great ideas but he needs people around him to help with the execution on those ideas cause my biggest problem with the prequels for as much as I never hated them was that Lucas on occasion was focusing on certain Elements in the prequels that should’ve been downplayed and the parts he downplayed should’ve been given more focus but the show really fills in those gaps so it all evens out

      @@artsman412 true. a true can love something while pointing out the flaws. the prequels were good, especially when you look at the smaller details and you can see the bits of brilliant storytelling that lucas told or tried to tell.
      CW just made the prequels better because they were able to tell the stories they couldn't tell in a movie and expand upon the characters that really needed them.
      i wouldn't go so far as to say CW "fixed" the PT but simply it fleshed it out.

The prequels had a good story, but it was bogged down with poor writing and acting, so a show that had better writing and acting helped get the story across. @Super Chaloongis I am sorry but the prequels have problems and are not perfect. I do think that people over exaggerate those problems and that at worst are mediocre movies but clone did expand on many thins especially other jedi and the clones which makes you care about them when in the movies they meant nothing I know the focus was on anakin's fall but they try to enhance his character even more here to be even better as for me I think plageuis and the rots novel did a pretty good job as well to make those stories even better so instead of fixing, enhancing would be a better word.

    This series REALLY pushes the boundaries of what you could put in an animated series. There was nothing else like it on Cartoon Network and I doubt there ever will be again. It was NOT appropriate for kids at all, but I started watching it when I was 7. I think it influenced Cartoon Network to be more bold because there was a whole bunch of other shows on at the time that were more serious, violent, and serialized than usual. Adventure Time, Regular Show, Young Justice, Mystery Incorporated, Thundercats, Green Lantern, Symbiotic Titan, they all pushed the boundaries of what was appropriate on a "Kids Network" and I remember them all fondly. I should point out that after those shows ended, Cartoon Network went back to being strictly for kids. Probably because a lot of those shows weren't as successful as they hoped. I'm still a fan of them all and look back on them fondly. I just wish some of them were around a little longer. At least Clone Wars got a satisfying ending.

      @reappermen 2 роки тому +12

      There is also an important destinction for the show: The clone wars made a loss every season, but George Lucas/the whole Lucasfilms complex made a massive profit of every season.
      For one thing Lucas has shown in various interviews that he learned the value of long term profits a good while ago, and he was in for the long run. The show made a loss as it initialy aired, but it has been constantly bringing in money ever since. Heck, it is still some of the most wacthed content on disney plus currently, so a significant chunck of it's monthly revenue/profit is profit clone wars makes.
      For another Star wars is one of the oldest entertainment properties that really embraced the 'franchise' setup. Over the years clone wars sold truckloads of merchandise, books, derivative video games and so on, which probably brought in more profit by now than the show cost to produce on it's own without even considering the broadcasting/streaming income.
      On top of that it kept star wars alive and fresh for people for a good while, which made it effectively also marketing for the movies, merchandising, books and other stuff in the star wars universe, bringing in a lot of profits from that as well.
      I coudln't find concrete numbers, but I'd bet a full analysis (if enought of the relevant data was collected through the years to analyse properly) would show that Clone Wars has made Lucasfilms the cost back probably at least 5-10 times as a VERY conservative estimate.

      They had Clone troopers use flamethrowers to literally burned geonisians alive on screen, in a kids show! And they literally talked about sending the teenage padawans on basically a suicide mission, while ordering their clone troops to walk head first into death as a diversion, and showed that too.
      Also, all of those were technically war crimes by real world laws, on top of the other 30 or so times the show depicted the HEROES of the show commiting war crimes of various ilks, plus assasinations, kidnapping, child endangerment, piracy and various other actions.

      I'd say Mandalore, Umbara, and the Wronged Jedi like Ben Wasserman said of course, you'd be insane not to, but I'd throw in Mortis, Fives, Geonosis, and Nightsisters/Maul
      And for the worst arcs, because you know he'd need to make one for that, the droid arcs from seasons 1 and 5, the Blue Shadow Virus, and the Nute Gunray arc in season 1. I think on their own, there's nothing really wrong with these, I actually enjoy a fair bit from them (with the exception of that Frog Colonel), they're just not that strong compared to everything else. Outside of these, the only ones I can think of that are "bad" are standalone episodes rather than arcs.

So I felt like it grew along with me. It really defined Star Wars for me and makes the prequel era my favorite, even though the movies are...what they are. In fact, I never thought the prequels were that terrible because I had clone wars to contextualize some things for me.
    I have so many thoughts and feelings for this show. It has a special place in my life.
    I think the Bad Batch series and Rebels are worth checking out as well. But they don't really add as much to the Star Wars universe as Clone Wars did. Clone Wars reframes and recontextualizes so much that watching at least some of it is crucial for hardcore fans. Not so much for the story as it is for getting to know the characters and their development, as well as the overall state of the galaxy by the time RotS comes around. But you could skip Bad Batch and Rebels without missing too much. So far it seems all you need to know about Rebels is that Thrawn is an irritatingly competent villain that got yeeted through space and the Mandalorian hinted he'd return. And something related to Mortis that I think is an overall questionable decision.

    I finally decided to check it out this year after many years of putting it off. I'll admit the Jar Jar episodes nearly put me off after the first season, but I kept pushing cause I heard it got good, and now I'm on the final season. What a ride this show is.

    Me and my boyfriend binged the last season together, and the final episode *destroyed* us. we were so invested, yelling in surprise, whispering "nononono" or "oh s**t" a lot. we cried and felt the impact of it for at least 2 days it was that intense. i LOVE this show and these characters!

    One of the characters who had the most character growth, in my opinion, was Ashoka. She went from being one of the most annoying characters to a fan favorite as the series went on. Sam Witwer did a fantastic job playing Maul. He's also the same guy who plays Starkiller in the Force Unleashed games for those who didn't know.

    Some of my favourite scenes ever in Star Wars and animation in general are in this show
    Grievous' massacre on the nightsisters, Ashoka before the tombstones of the clones, Yoda talking to the clones; in almost every type of scene, with characters I love and setting events that become important for other properties
    Dave Filioni and his team can really call this their magnum opus

    The first two seasons were honestly not that bad, basically like he said they were trying to get their foot in, also the ventress thing some fans from legends don’t enjoy as ventress did have a backstory and had her be her own character rather than what was done in tcw where she was sort of a stepping stone for mauls return. That said I still enjoy the show and of course Ahsoka is one of the best characters in the series, she was legit written well.

      There’s probably room for it. Resistance was too far outside the main character’s adventures despite happening within that timeline. Maybe a new show or comic series of Rey, Fin, Poe and Rose trying to battle First Order remnants and form a new governing system. Like a sequel-centric Heir to the Empire.

    In case you didn't know already: Disney took over Star Wars in 2014 (I think) and cancelled this show after its 5th season. The show's creators were able to release the remaining episodes, which they managed to animate completely, on Netflix, so these episodes became CW season 6. That's also the reason why season 6 only has 13 episodes and not 20 or more, because they were cancelled mid-production. Dave and his team finished 12 out of the (about) 52 unfinished Clone Wars episodes in season 7, but there still exist (around) 40 unfinished episodes or (in other words) 10 unfinished arcs to this day. The scripts of all of the 52 episodes were already finished, as far as I know. You can look up these amazing stories which we still could have gotten, which would have played out before the finale of season 7. I really hope that they maybe are going to release and finish more or all of the 10 arcs/ 40 unfinished CW episodes in the future. We would have seen on screen what happened with Maul and Sidious after season 5 or with Ventress, for example, not just in comic or book form (like the Maul "Son of Dathomir" or Ventress "Dark Disciple" book). We would have also seen more of the affects that Ahsoka leaving had on Anakin and even a very short encounter between Sidious and Ahsoka. Maybe one day Disney will eventually decide to finish and release them.
