The Italian version is called strufoli or pignolata and is traditionally served during the xmas holidays. Orange and lemon zest is added to the honey syrup at the end of boiling and then tossed with the fried dough balls. They usually are tossed with candied fruit and colored sprinkles. When I make them I try to give a lot away because I can eat the whole tray.

It is true. ONLY use wood or plastic spoon. Akis is addicted to sweet food and had NO time or patience to look for wooden spoon. He must be using the GREEK honey, no matter what you use GREEK honey is always best. 🍯🍯🥄🍴🍯🍯

You cook to shabby man. At least close the honey lid cleanly and drain the oil properly before putting them on the platter or tissue. You need to learn to be not to shabby.

You can make them several hours in advance. Alternatively you can put them in the freezer after frying them once and fry whenever you want. 😉

Maybe you should fry them more time. Be careful with the temperature of the oil.
