- This is a short film showing axle wrap.
Subject vehicle is a Jeep Wrangler YJ 1991, 3.5 Inch lift, 33" tires, caster blocks and a bad transmissionmount.
Video start: Hard acceleration, high range
0:28: Slow braking
0:40 Acceleration, rolling start, high range, only second gear
1:34 Hard acceleration, rolling start, low range, only first gear
1:57 Hard acceleration, rolling start, high range
2:27 Hard braking to stop - Авто та транспорт
That is a nice sounding 4.0 inline 6,sounds like a V8! 👍
I have a 96 XJ, with shot leafs, I put on leaf spring clamps which helped some, but sometimes I will get an intense shuddering at take off only, u joints are good, I'm thinking some spring wrap is happening here too! 4.0 sounds killer dude, mine is straight piped, similar sound
I'm glad I'm not the only one that blows fire
I think you have your axle pinion angle set up for a cv-style driveshaft. If you have driveline vibration or a significant amount of shudder at takeoff (the video shows the transfer case shaking when accelerating from a stop) the angles are not correct; your transfer case output shaft and axle pinion angles should be parallel for a driveshaft with two conventional u-joints. In a cv setup, the axle pinion and the driveshaft will be parallel.
You sir may have just solved my issue I’ve been chasing for almost a year now. Thank you for this info
Yessiree. I think the same.
I agree. How do you fix that?
@chrisstock2011 either get a cv-style, double cardan joint driveshaft, or get the pinion angle parallel to the driveline output angle. You can do that by cutting and welding your spring perches or using angle shims between your spring perches and leafsprings. If you have a coil sprung setup, you should have some degree of adjustability with the upper and lower links that will hopefully be enough to at least get you close.
Transmission looked like it was gonna shake out
go jeep yj's! sorry about the axle wrap but you should also probably look into the fire your spitting out...
7 year necro... It's probably exhaust in the sunset
God damn! I should check my truck for axle wrap also lol
God that pinion angle makes me cry.
I didn't see it at first, just looking at the leafs trying watch for rotation. But it was really obvious once I focused on the driveshaft and differential, especially at 1:00
thanks for this helpful video
I have a 94 yj and its straight piped, sounds exactly like this. Mine has the 2.5l 4cyl
Joaq Gaming What’s the last year of the 2.5 4cyl? Is it reliable?
Are you having vibes in this video? I'm troubleshooting a vibration issue on my XJ after installing a SYE. The pinion is pointed directly at the TC yoke. I suspect at highway speeds I'm getting some axle wrap and pointing it too far.
Nice video of what axle wrap is.
Thanks.
Any ideas on how to reduce wheel hop on a 2015 ram 1500?
Traction bars
Don't by a ram simple problem solved.
Yes, buy a better truck.
What did you do to fix if
What kind of engine is that man? Sounds beautiful.
Probably a 4.0 straight 6
+LiftedWhiteChevy well I have a straight piped 4.0 I6 in my '76 CJ-7 and it sounds nothing like that
+Aaron T idk his exhaust is dump at the transmission and you have full length but no muffler so idk
the poor pinion bearings and u joints.. awsome sound though. might strait pipe my 4.0 soon. or cut off from the cat..assuming thats whats in this?
that pinion angle is way off
this is a Ferrari right?
How did you film this? what kind of cam...
+Ivo Stroobants GoPro
There's some wrap but it's not that bad.
What is the engine?
whatSongIsThis? 4.0L Inline 6
Will driving it make it worse
sounds like a diesel ...ha
Don’t even look that bad
